St Augustine says guilt keeps us bound here? Is it not sin, rather?
We, Orthodox, know St Augustine isn't a heretic (because he, unlike characters like Arius, never pridefully resisted the correction of the Church of his false beliefs) but held some heretical views from not knowing better.
Could this view of his arise from such a false belief held because he didn't know better?
I must repent. How does one go about discerning the most appropriate act of repentance for any given scenario|situation|circumstance.
One of the signs is when start to despise the passion or the sin we feel into.

Go to an Orthodox Church and talk to the priest. This will benefit you. Every orthodox Christian has a daily prayer rule which includes prostrations and regular confession, fasting... With this simple tools we build relationship with God and then we see more clearly our sinfulness as well as ways to repent.
