How amazing is he?! I don't know the first thing about rap, but the way he modulates his voice tone, the way the flow constantly changes and let's not forget the savage lyrics! Also, visually stunning with a really interesting concept of the 'mad king' being assassinated by his alter ego.

Agust D/SUGA is ranked as one of the most influential producers and songwriters in South Korea, who won multiple awards over the past few years, including best producer. He debuted at #9 on Billboard Hot 100 Songwriters Chart. He became the first male soloist in history to have a song and album reach No.1 on iTunes in 100 countries each. He is ranked Billboard's Top solo Korean Album Artist of 2020. His mixtape "D-2" debuted at #11 on Billboard 200. And there is just a few of his achievements.
He has two self-produced mixtapes: "Agust D" (2016) and "D-2" (2020), which broke several records on music charts worldwide. He uses his platform to talk about important topics and most of his lyrics touch such subjects as mental health, social issues, the contrast between dreams and reality, etc.
To put this simply, in this MV king is his past self. The other one is his present self. So he shot his past self. "Daechwita" is a genre of Korean traditional military music, which was played to announce the arrival of king.
He also produces/writes a lot of songs for BTS as well as for other top artists.
I recommend you to check out
    Agust D - "Agust D" MV;
BTS - "Interlude: Shadow" MV (it is his solo song).

Honestly, Suga saying to just focus on the audio and visuals is just him being too modest, really. I mean the lyrics are really cool and smart at the same time and better than a lot of rap songs these days.
Yeah, they always support each other like that. They often visit each other on set and wish each other good luck.
And you could see that also in the muster performance : I mean Suga barely had any lines in his own song lol. That just proves his ego is not hurt by allowing the other memebers the spotlight to sing his song and also knowing that this would be something the fans would really love and appreciate. Same goes for J-hope of course.

As you heard him saying in shooting sketch "4 years ago Agust D became king, now another Agust D is confronting him". 4 years ago he released his first mixtape. During his vlive, where he exlpained the whole mixtape, each song, he said he doesn't know is blonde Agust D dead or he survived. He also shared that blonde Agust D and black-haired Agust D have second names: the first one is "anger" and the name of the second one we will know in his next mixtape. If you listen to his song "Interlude: Shadow" you'll notice that "Daechwita" continues the topic of it

*Suga, real name Min Yoongi, is a member of the Yeoheung Min Clan, a very powerful clan Clan during Joseon dynasty. The article states that during a V-Live, Suga confirmed the fact, adding that his family belonged to a high ranking within the clan. Queen Inhyeon of King Sukjong, Queen Wongyeong of King Taejong, the last empress of Korea- Empress Myeongseong and Empress Sunmyeong all were from this clan. Jin (Kim Seokjin) and V (Kim Taehyung) could potentially be members of the Gwangsan Kim Clan, in turn, making them distant relatives*

The genius touch is that there is actually one beat throughout the entire song but little melodies and Yoongi's voice make it sound completely different 😌 Daechwita is basically military marching music to announce the king's arrival so the imperial sound is definitely there! Yoongi used the original daechwita performance recordings for the song and Gugak center in Korea thanked him for promoting traditional Korean music 😁

it's so cool tho that Daechwita here is turned on its head as a symbol of rebellion against the severe king? the executioner is on the rebellion side, king's humiliated salves in the end shaking their heads to the rebellion leader. they all support him out of choice, not fear or force, they don't want their king too
the king is aka Agust D: he is blond like Yoongi was during Agust D - first mixtape, that got him an immense fame. a quote from "The Last": "And Min Yoongi? I killed him" - this is Agust D words about getting through the hardships and use them to fire the greed that was a weapon to get to the point he is today. he had to create a persona that could take it and shrug everything off. so Agust D is the persona that gave him power and fame, took him to the heights he's at. The king is full of himself, he is rough, doesn't care about those who's below him, killing people if he doesn't like them (execution scene, boxes with heads). That's the representation of what he could have become under the industry and success / what he is turning in to / what people have made him out to be
the rebellious one is Min Yoongi, his commoner self who's there to take the control back and kill the king and to over the throne, to force his real self to remember where he came from. he is the "reality check" to "put my feet on the ground", show that he still values his roots and his journey
and the inner struggles with his self are also prevalent throughout D-2 (second mixtape). some qoutes: "Do I really even enjoy making music?", "I only started this because I liked music, but the descriptors they add to my name are burdensome at times." that reminds me of how many time "king" is in the Daechwita lyrics. it puts hum on top and also puts a pressure on him to maintain the image, that may be not who he really is. he's not a savage or angry person, but this persona can consume him
that's how i interpret it haha
more on the interesting cultural references ~
8:24 /Il wol o bong do/ behind the king's chair in Joseon era has Moon on the left side, Sun on the right side, waterfalls & pine trees on both sides, mountain with 5 peaks and waves in the front. This painting is usually done when the king sits on the throne, it means prosperity of royal family under gods' protection and king's dignity
MV was shot in Daejanggeum Park in Yongin, Gyeonggido
the gun in Yoongi's hand is actually colt model 1860 ARMY. i don't know if it was on purpose, but hehe
both characters share the same scar to signal that they are one. that's why one of them is hiding under the hat at the market place, bc he looks like the king. also in k-dramas a man with a scar couldn't become a king (a symbolic artistic touch that is not a historic fact). though Yoongi said he wanted a scar bc it just looks cool 😄
there's a lot more but go to bookish theories explanation :)

My absolute favorite bit of trivia about the mv has to do with the butchers- in Korea butchers would also take on executioner duties as they had the skill, however, because of the gruesome work butchers were considered untouchable, the lower class. In the mv Yoongi wears a pendant shaped like a mask. Guess what character this mask symbolizes in Korean traditional theater? The butcher, or the untouchable! 😳 so it's a clue hidden in plain sight, the sign of new Agust D being one of the people 😌
The gun used to kill the king is called Colt 1860 Army btw 😁

Not sure if you noticed but in the MV the King was beheading ppl just like he says in his lyrics. That was also a common practice back then, where the king would behead pl found guilty of treason and then hang their heads for a few days. You can see the heads hanging in the MV and be up in rice chests. I forget how long they had to stay up, but after a few days the family would be able to take them down.
And again, like Suga said in the shooting sketch, him making that mad king his devious Agust D persona was genius bc that “old” Agust D was genuinely symbolic of Suga’s rage and passion.

I know Yoongi said this song is more about auditory pleasure, not the lyrics, but let's be honest here - those lyrics are FIRE and he knew exactly what he was doing when writing them.
Also in one of his vlives... or was it a Bangtan bomb or sth, he said he imagined ARMY marching behind him as Daechwita played, and since it's a melody used for royals during military marches... makes a lot of sense.
Fun fact: the gun he used in that last scene is 1860 colt called "ARMY revolver". 😏 It's like he was saying: ARMY is my weapon, helping me to fight all the mad men out there (haters, music industry, people in power, you name it).

This MV actually has multiple layers. Yes, it's about him overcoming the version of himself 4 years ago, but it is also about the establishment (Korean music industry, or entire music industry) and how BTS basically upended it (represented by the men he's with in the video and ARMY, represented by the woman who gave him the key). You should watch DKDKTV explanation as it gives more insight into many historical references both in the lyrics and the video. His ambivalent relationship with greed is a huge theme is Suga's music. He talks about how greed/envy and the rage that comes with it, were such a motor in his life and enabled him to pursue and achieve his dreams as a musician. But he also talks about how he is scared to be consumed by his greed and that while it was his strength, he is terrified of it being his downfall too. He talks about it in The last, Give it to me, obviously Tony Montana even Shadow... and here too. August D became king and got all he wanted but let it go to his head and became a tyrant which eventually lead to his demise.

What I got from this video is there are two Suga...the one that got everything he wanted and is now feeling like a king and swaggering and looking down on his minions...and the ordinary Suga...the one that still down there with the ordinary people...if you see the last verse where he questions where does he go now that he has reached the top...he needs to get grounded again...but of course the Boss King persona wants to get rid of the remnants of his old self...so he wants to execute him...in the end it’s his old self that kills the “king”... as much as I loved OT7 doing Daechwita...no one can do it like Suga...well except Jhope...he managed to do his verse even keeping his own style!
Ps..I really think Suga is an excellent actor...in the BU videos he really is one of the best at expressing different emotions with very little effort!

So you met Agust D. Daetchwita and D2 made me a Suga bias. 💜💜
You should definitely listen more of his and the other members solo songs, you will see many sides of them. I don’t know if somebody already told you, if you notice there’s no Big Hit intro because when they want to release solo stuff, they have to pay for it themself, not Big Hit. This give them more creative freedom, that’s why here he can say whatever he wants and in the groups songs he has to contain himself. Many times he said that his parts have to go through many revisions because he is too blunt ahah
About the lyric video, they took the audio from the mv not from the original audio and they literally used the translation from the mv. Jaeguchi and Lemori are the worst lyric video channels, they don’t care if the translation is good or if they mistake a member voice for another. But they are the most viewed because they are the first to put the videos out. Every time a new songs is released, Armys get angry because these videos trend higher than the official mvs (same with reaction videos).

Daechwita is a traditional Korean musical genre born in the late Joseon dynasty, which used to be performed in royalty processions, was characterized by including wind instruments and percussion. Today it continues to be used on special occasions and for military purposes.
And to add to that fact - Yoongi is actually a royal descendent to that exact dinasty. :D

Opening scene in the market he trades looks with the butcher/executioner.
Some say the three heads hanging from the balcony belong to the heads of the 3 powerful music companies who dismissed BTS.
In KDRAMA s the hero never really dies.
He practiced with an authentic sword for 2 days, then replaced it with a lighter model because of blisters on his hand.

"They're bodies?!?@$" 😂😂😂 You have the best reaction I have ever seen for this video. The drawing is based on a drawing that JK drew of Bang PD in a Run episode. (didn't know if you knew) Two sides of the same person, fear of become something he isnt, represented as the Emperor, not getting too big or proud and remembering where he came from. I found the idea of killing a part of yourself (ego) very interesting. Also the idea of passing judgement on an aspect of yourself. Afraid of fame going to his head. So deep.
I love that BTS makes people Rap fans. When the message is amazing it a whole different thing. 😘💜💜💜💜💜💜💜

Your pronunciation is fine! But technically there is a diphthong in Korean ("u" as is glue and "i" which has a long "e" sound as in glee. So the sound in the middle is technically "chewy" but said really quickly as one syllable.) It is pronounced so quickly that non-native Koreans like myself can't really hear the difference.

A popular theory is when in the MV he takes the keys from the woman she represents ARMY. If you count the number of men with him and her in that scene there’s six men then him. They say each of the six guys represent the other members. Going along with this theory that means the one who ‘is rising’ is actually SUGA who is going to dethrone the mad king Agust D and take his place. Yoongi has said in the past Agust D and SUGA are all part of him and none of them are fake.

About the MV, there is no official explanations but this is probably about his own duality. When we first met Agust D he was blond and his first mixtape is quite dark, he talked about a lot of personal stuff and Yoongi was a lot more angry and at that time (his first mixtape helped him a lot actually). So the duality between the king and the folk may be a hint about that. In the MV the king (who represent his demons, his dark side maybe and also his ego) is slowly losing his sanity (cutting of people's head, walking on them, his hair changing etc) and the folk may represent him now, trying to stop the mad king and take control.
