@@smartjunayd i think it's really pointless to say "real something" in the music world. Music changes and evolves continuisly. There's not real anything, there's just music and it's infinite shapes. It's like saying Einaudi is not real classical music because classical music died with Mozart, and that's not true.

Hip hop still exists nowadays, you just gotta look for it. Dreamville , TDE , Eminem , Royce , NF, Tech etc etc but nowadays what’s popular is garbage like 6ix9ine and Lil Pump who really can’t rap, all they rap about is drugs money sex jewelry etc on good beats and that sells
      Them, but real
Hip-hip still exists and yeah this is also in the genre. As you said., hip hops downfall started after the 2010s, that’s when these SoundCloud rappers got big cuz children would make anyone popular easily, from Ricegum and Logan Paul to 6ix9ine, Lil Pump , Lil Xan lol, and I’m from this generation and I don’t get it, atleast we still have some artists making actual music that requires skill and talent

@@smartjunayd okay I see what you mean. I may not agree with it entirely cus as the other commenter said.. Would that mean classical music created these days wouldnt be called classical music? But yea as far as the mumble rap goes Im not fond of that trend. Definately it can be separeted even by subgenre. What I also meant is that many haters calls Agust D kpop when its not because the music falls in the hip hop genre. I recommend you to listen to his full album and check the lyrics out while he will never be OLD hip hop. Its still is hip hop and he mixes in some songs with others genres but he spits fire and truths. I recommend you to listen to Strange and check the lyrics out if you havent heard it.

Daechwita (대취타) is a group of traditional instruments that are played during the king's ceremonial processions. it was performed during military marches or when the army won the war. only the military was allowed to play it at the time. but here 대취타 itself is turned on its head as a symbol of rebellion against the severe king. the executioner is on the rebellion side to, you can see him and Yoongi's character meeting eyes in the village in the beginning of the mv. and also notice that all that black clothed people which were kneeling to the king (but were still humiliated) in the end shaking their heads to the rebellion leader singing Daechwita. they support him out of choice, not fear or force. they don't want their king too
the king is aka Agust D: he is blond like Yoongi was during his first mixtape "Agust D", that got him an immense fame. a quote from the song "The Last": "And Min Yoongi? I killed him" - this is Agust D words about getting through the hardships and use them to fire the greed that was a weapon to get to the point he is today. he had to create a persona that could take it and shrug everything off. so Agust D is the persona that gave him power and fame, took him to the heights he's at. The king is full of himself, he is rough, doesn't care about those who's below him, killing people if he doesn't like them (execution scene, boxes with heads). That's the representation of what he could have become under the industry and success / what he is turning in to / what people have made him out to be
the rebellious one is Min Yoongi, his commoner self who's there to take the control back and kill the king and to over the throne, to force his real self to remember where he came from. he is the "reality check" to "put my feet on the ground", show that he still values his roots and his journey
more on the cultural references :
4:58 /Il wol o bong do/ behind the king's chair in Joseon era has Moon on the left side, Sun on the right side, waterfalls & pine trees on both sides, mountain with 5 peaks and waves in the front. This painting is usually done when the king sits on the throne, it means prosperity of royal family under gods' protection and king's dignity
MV was shot in Daejanggeum Park in Yongin, Gyeonggido
the gun in Yoongi's hand is actually colt model 1860 ARMY. i don't know if it was on purpose, but hehe (p.s: ARMY is a BTS' fandom name)
both characters share the same scar to signal that they are one. that's why one of them is hiding under the hat at the market place, bc he looks like the king. also in Korea a man with a scar couldn't become a king. though Yoongi said he wanted a scar bc it just looks cool 😄

    • @em5522
      @em5522 Před 3 lety +9

The thing about the scar preventing a man from the throne is only from kdrama and not supported by historical evidence. Heirs to the throne were required to undergo combat training (archery, swordsmanship, horse-riding, etc.) and there are princes who've gone to war before ascending the throne (such as the one mentioned in the MV). Plus, the amount of assassinations wouldn't be as high if a person only needed to scar a prince to get them out from the throne.
So, yeah. The scars were only for aesthetics, as Yoongi stated.

In Korea there was a lot of social hierarchy from nobility to slaves. And tigers are one of the largest predator in Korea. And kings are considered sons of dragons. There's a lot of cultural and historical reference in this song.
The boxes you see him holding while dancing is usually filled with a decapitated head filled with salt to preserve it, it's usually sent as a warning to heads of enemy clans or warring countries.
This song is a celebration of him getting back to his roots, of him finding the need to ground himself, and fighting against the greed, and darkside of himself presented by the mad king.

Daechwita (day-chwee-ta) was the type of music that used to be played in ancient times in Korea to let the villagers know that the Emperor/King or his army were marching through... hence "Play it Loud". Agust D (August D) is also known as Suga (Shoe-ga) from BTS. He goes by Agust D (Suga backwards + D T for Daegu Town... which is the city he's from and the name of the rap crew he was part of before BTS) when he releases his solo work, this is off of his second mix-tape, D-2.
He explained this video as a battle between his former greedy/petty self (the King) and his current more humble/grateful self (the peasant). The executioner was the butcher from the opening scene in the alley. They make a pact to kill the King, which is why he cuts him loose and pulls a gun out of the box that he was supposed to put Suga's head in... Fun Fact... that antique gun is actually called "Army" which is the name of the fanbase for BTS. So basically, he uses ARMY (us) to help him overcome his old self and live in the present. Fun Fact #2... the two that start fighting in the alley are Jin and Jungkook, the oldest and youngest members of BTS. :)

His stage name in BTS is ‘Suga’ for the first two syllables of his favorite basketball position, shooting guard.
Aside from BTS he also produces mixtapes and solo work under the name Agust D, and he does some producing and songwriting for other singers (he has collaborations with Halsey, IU, RM, Suran, Lee Sora, Heike, Epik High, Max, and others). Daechwita was the single from his last mixtape, D2.
A disclaimer: You seem to really like rapping and hip-hop and Yoongi does a lot of that. But with BTS and his solo work there’s a fair bit of pop mixed in so if you’re trying to keep to hip-hop I would recommend:

I love all their music, but you might think the entire group songs are too pop! For the rap line, react to Ddang or the cyphers, to get a feel for the whole group, Mic Drop is a great song to listen to! They are so diverse and talented - it’s unbelievable!! The singers can SANG, the rappers are SICK, and they all dance their ASSES off!! Individually they’re amazing, and as a group it’s just synergy!!! Not to mention the amazing work they do, with Army (fan base), to end discrimination and break down the barriers that separate us! Their message is all about self love and spreading positivity!! Just an amazingly talented group of good people!! 💜💜💜

Regarding the term kpop, kpop means Korean popular music. Not more not less. Term is pretty useless.
It's a huge umbrella term that spans endless genres and artists just like the term "US American popular music" includes tons from Jojo Siwa to Eminem.
It's a problem that Korean rappers are labeled as kpop in the west not as hip hop as they should be.

Even as a fan (with less incline to go towards ballad-y or overly pop tunes) I will say I don't like every track. Take Dynamite or a lot of their recent Japanese releases. With a large quantity of songs there's a good amount I don't vibe with as a consequence.
But what I do like, I *like*. And they haven't crashed after a good 8 years. Disease on the same album as Dynamite is way more experimental and groovy, even with the jarring amount of autotune on the 'BE' album. That's just my opinion though - they can sing and dance well onstage, I don't know why their studio stuff is so heavy with that.
Plus, they appear as just decent guys and that keeps me stuck around. The group members that do the rapping (RM,SUGA,JHOPE) release their solo projects on SoundCloud for free, as have the singers with some of theirs.
Sorry for the unwarranted wall of text, just nice to see someone interested on this channel.
