- The 15th annual BRICS summit is set to commence in Johannesburg next week - for the first in person gathering since the pandemic.
From a term coined in 2001 by a leading economist looking at the largest developing nations outside the G7, BRICS - Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa - has developed into a truly global organization. And it’s one that others are now seeking to sign up to - 23 countries have formally expressed their desire to join up.
So is BRICS poised for expansion? And what will that mean for the world?
In this week’s episode, Juliet Mann considers what’s set to dominate discussion in Johannesburg with Ben Joubert, South Africa’s Sous Sherpa for BRICS, Wang Huiyao, Founder and President of the Center for China and Globalization and Jim O’Neill, a Senior Advisor at Chatham House who first coined the term BRIC in 2001.

I hope and pray that ALL the countries that are interested in joining the BRICS are successfully added in hope of reducing suffering in some regions as a result of sanctions and irresponsible monitory policies and continuous war mongering by the West.
Together BRICS Plus will bring a balance and equilibrium into this world which is much needed. In hope of Peace and Prosperity in the World for All.
Sanctions Must be brought to ineffectiveness!
Coalition of the abused Must work together to resist the evil that is loose in the West.
Sanctioned countries don't need to join BRICS to stop sanctions. They could just stop doing what the sanctions are imposed for, mostly for torturing and murdering their own people, or the people of other countries. Then they can join the whole world community and all our countries can be together making life better for everyone.
China won’t finance that without gaining something. What should those countries be willing to pay?

As long as US does not join the ICC, all countries must make immediately decision to withdraw from the said organisation which only prosecute weak countries but ignore the atrocities committed by the powerful Western countries including US, Australia and Canada in countries such as Iraq, Afghanistan etc .

??? International Criminal Court is not a "political organization", it is a court set up and run by 108 countries which all agree that international crimes should be prosecuted, just like domestic crimes are inside countries.
If you don't want your country to be protected from terrorism, invasion and other crimes, sure, leave the ICC.

Chinese interlocutors are very poor at putting their point across. Since they are not required to give any explanation to their own citizens, they have no practice in debating and discussing in an open forum. Most journalists are sneaky and have to be dealt with smartly. Regarding BRICS expansion, the answer is. Any structure is imposing if it has size. But you can't build without a strong foundation. That is the work that has been done till now. Hence it's time to grow. BRICS came up as an organisation imbued with the desire to seek freedom from exclusive or restrictive institutions and find ways of positive cooperation. Cooperation is powerful if many have a stake in the interdependence. The need for an organisation like the BRICS is validated by the number of countries believing in the idea and seeking to join. So if someone came up to you and said you are doing a good job, can I join you, we will do more together? What would you say ? Our leaders are men of the time and ultimately represent the will of the people. And people want peace, prosperity and stability. How can you stop what the people desire especially when it is good for everyone?

The Indian rupees situation is the teething problem now. But it is also a stabilizing mechanism to ensure that all bilateral trades are balanced out at the end of the day. Right now, Russian accumulated large amount of Indian Rupees and has stopped shipping the cheap oil to India. The Indians has to find ways to sell something useful to the Russian. We know Russians are no fan of Bollywood. Maybe there need for a tripartite agreement where a third country is willing to absorb the rupees from Russia in exchange for Indian coconuts or Bollywood.
