Even as an Aatrox main i have to say when you face an Aatrox and he uses back flash + Q you rarely expect him to re-engage. That's why this combo works so well.

@@cycl0ne999 eclipse is more commonly built as the go-to nowadays just because it does more damage than goredrinker. I do think goredrinker is usually better against beefier targets.
I really like how flexible this guy thinks.
For me, I always go Eclipse and conqueror, no matter the matchup, even if its a special matchup, ranged, or a full melee team comp.
But this guy's runes and playstyle was an eye-opener.
He goes nimbus for more speed so he can catch-up and position his q better after flash,
He goes comet against ranged,
He goes either eclipse/goredrinker, dependent on the match-up and enemy team comp.
It's just so *big brain.*

my biggest like, evolutions on Aatrox were that
1.) you don't need to go eclipse after first back serrated dirk, ghostblade is viable, serpent's fang, etc
2.) cleaver is the BoRK of Aatrox. Anyone tankier than like, Jax, and I have the option to rush cleaver
Go edge for vayne. Electricute for short burst heavy aatrox against squishy. There are a lot of ways u can go about things. People just dont realize it.

On release Aatrox could heal on minions. Fighting him in minion wave was suicide. I saw an old clip, where Aatrox with one swing of his 2q healed 700 hp, without ultimate, only hitting one minion wave and galio

I main Aatrox and this seemed pretty standard to me. I'm not saying that this player is not good or anything but I've seen the Q Backwards then re engage a lot of times and I do that myself when facing matchups that have ways to get onto my face. And I'm Gold 3.
Lol same here. I'm silver and I do this on aatrox. I thought these combos were normal. I literally went into practice tool when I was learning him and tried back/Diagonal Qs all day.

Player is really good but the champ is beyond broken, no idea how it hasn't been nerfed when it has been so disruptive to play against for many patches now
It's definitely more of mindgame tactics that this person is using. Creating false senses of security while also taking advantage of the mindset that people typically expect.

So the Q1/Q2 with dashing backwards is pretty standard, but I never thought to flash forward again for Q3.

old formula: engaging on to enemy
"new" formula: reacting to an engage by enemy (enemy is probably on top of you)

Is this Christianshi? He was a youtuber, but all his videos got deleted, but he was the most incredible old aatrox main I've seen. Even before the earlier changes. Absolutly outstanding, and it's such a shame his video's were put down. I believe I saw him with comet in one scene 3:02, and this just shows how off meta and crazy like a fox he was. Very incredible, and didn't receive much credit for his aatrox. However he was Chinese, and played in the Chinese Superserver. Could it be that he now lives in Korea? Yea his reflex's and calculation were just like this, and was just outstanding, very entertaining to watch, and he had a good sense of humar, a long with indescriminative limit testing. He would go up against the strongest riven, and tryndamere mains, and make them look like childs play. lol Ty for this, I've been looking for someone who really impresses me, and can show me something I don't know already.

Even though kled is technically supposed to be a counter to aatrox, it's actually pretty easy matchup. Only impossible tough matchup is irelia actually. There is fiora too, but that one is more skill based.

yeah, aatrox is op, but like azir with less macro, not heimer. he has very few counter picks, but 1) hes a melee, 2) 3 similar but different abilities in 1 Q, 3) a lot of skillcap in movement (microplay)

I understand how the combos make him different, but the Aatrox build and putting two points in Q at lvl 3 seem normal to me
It's interesting to see simple micro mistakes at such high level.
Example at 1:55 Aatrox trade one auto with Volibear, but Volibear is shielded.
Maybe the idea was, in order for Aatrox to get 3 melee minions, Voli would get an auto, so Aatrox wanted to trade an auto back.
But then Aatrox took 3 caster minion autos for no exchange. (Voli already guaranteed to take caster minion autos by autoing Aatrox in first place.)
This is not a critique. Just an admiration of the nuances of League, and a love of discussing these nuances.
Well not really, as Aatrox has dorans shield, and presumably second wind for voli matchup (we don't see a bone plating proc). My guess is that the damage from voli and caster minions are practically completely negated by these two, and so he auto's voli to get his passive back up faster so he can be prepared for a level two trade. Besides, if voli didn't immediately back off as he did, he would've definitely lost the trade due to Aatrox auto 3rd Q.

As top laner and play aatrox (not to the fullest) I've gotta say the champ is a no brainer, OP when you dont hit sweet spots you just press R and ignite auto then outdmg most of top laner champs. If hit sweet spots well, the champ has no counters at the moment. Fiora? Jax? Renek? Or some ranged adc ish champs? Don't fool yourself.
Aatrox is just overtuned atm. Let's see if he can stay up when he's nerfed.

He is just a better Aatrox than average through his spacing, nothing else. There is no fancy combo, it's a very linear champion. Aatrox is just OP. Watching Naayil from time to time, this doesn't feel waaaay above in terms of mechanics.
He's not the most picked/banned top (with about 75% winrate) at Worlds for no reason.

I've seen Aatrox players on EUW doing this for ages now, so this isn't new to me (There are even Aatrox players who run AS Shard + Alacrity + Divine Sunderer, but you will see them rarely since classic playstyle is stronger and more consistent).
Reason why it's not popular here is because 2x Adaptive is + Ignite gives you much higher kill pressure.
But it's funny that Koreans found something that has been on EUW for a long time now to be honest :D

Kled does not counter aatrox anymore, the consecutive aatrox buffs and kled neefs along with kled being weak vs %max hp makes it a skill matchup favored towards aatrox since you can rush tabis and out trade him.
