  • Join Joe Rotter @ Red's for a short wade fishing trip near Ellensburg, Washington on the Yakima River. Warm winter days can be good fishing, especially since the water is low and the trout are holding in fairly distinct holes.

    Your fish along videos are definitely my favorite ones. I’m on the wet side mostly sea run cutt fishing but love seeing these videos. Gets me eager to head over to the grill and get one of those wagyu burgers and maybe even land a few trout.

    Thanks Joe! Merry Christmas to you and your family. What about using a 3wt trout spey and flymphing or dead drift that sweet point fly and leisenring lift at the end of the drift? I’m gonna play with that with my 11’7” 3wt ACR on the lower Deschutes Christmas week

    • @redsflyshop
      @redsflyshop  Před 7 měsíci

      Give that a shot. My experience has been that these presentations are so touchy and delicate, even with large flies, that a trout spey rod would be overkill. Handling 5X tippet (which is almost essential to slice through the current), is a job for light rods.

    • @roberttamurian4038
      @roberttamurian4038 Před 7 měsíci

      @@redsflyshop my 3wt is pretty light like a 5wt SH. I think I will is straight fluorocarbon and give it a shot. I’ll let you know how I do

    I have un question
    With Yakima river what are others rivers for fishing trout in your basement?
    And compatibly to wading?
    Thanks a lot!!

    • @redsflyshop
      @redsflyshop  Před 7 měsíci +1

      For trout the Naches, Cle Elum, Tieton, Cooper, Waptus, Teanaway, and some smaller creeks. The Yakima has by far the most fish per mile and is the only year-round river here.

    What line do you have on your reel. Love the videos.

    • @redsflyshop
      @redsflyshop  Před 7 měsíci +1

      On this rig it's a RIO 25# Slick Shooter. There are pro's and con's to all lines on Euro rods so I'm not loyal to this. It makes a good spey shooting line when I put a Skagit head on that reel and is a very stiff line and handles really well as far as mono is concerned.

  • @jasonwalker1959
    @jasonwalker1959 Před 5 měsíci

    Really fun. Were you all mono on the reel?

    • @redsflyshop
      @redsflyshop  Před 5 měsíci

      Yes I was using a RIO Slick Shooter 25#, I also use this running line and reel for some of my trout spey heads so it works really well using one reel for both! Here is the product: redsflyfishing.com/products/rio-slick-shooter-running-line-mono-shooting-line-for-spey-casting

    • @jasonwalker1959
      @jasonwalker1959 Před 5 měsíci

      @@redsflyshop , I used to run all mono but was having issues with it slipping through my reel (even though mine is closed cage) so I bought a Euro fly line from you guys, which has worked well but it doesn't cast as well as full mono. Might have to try this slick shooter
