Ryan Freel made this terrific catch way back in the Spring of 2004 in which he dove into the stands. Unfortunately, I can't find any clip of it anywhere. Freel played with about as much reckless abandon as anyone in MLB history. I wish someone could post it online. At the time, I thought it was the toughest catch like that I've ever seen, and if my memory is at all accurate, it still is the best, and yet there's almost no video record of it.

The Jeter catch at 9:00 is, in my opinion, the most overrated play in MLB history. All other plays in this video are better. Nice play, and his momentum was taking him towards the stands, but every shortstop in baseball history makes that play. His play at 8:02 was much better. Great compilation.

It is a bit overrated but you also have to factor in the fact that it was like 3 or 4 innings (I think, don't quote me) into extras vs the red sox. The play is more about the situation rather than the play itself imo

That's kinda fucked up how he didn't even check to see if the kid was ok, he literally crushed him to the ground then hopped out of the stands all happy. Sure it was a great catch but it also could have injured the kid. If I was that kid's Dad I would have pushed him a little bit harder away from me considering he was standing on my kid.
