    What a privilège, to have channels like these who present ambient jungle videos around the time where im making it.

    I got a JV1080 and a EMU IV 5000 Ultra. Have some free time soon. Will try to use these technics with them. A video about your hardware workflow would be nice too ! So far working though the JV1080. Not that bad to operate. I still need to get a feeling for the multilevel envelopes. But pretty logic. The EMU only tried a bit so far. The pitch shifting with one sampled note is already far better than anything I tried in software. It just stays Strongs and don't fall apart. Even octaves away from the original pitch. Excited and would be very thankful for every trick ! Not so many videos about the old EMUs around.

    • @Thought-Forms
      @Thought-Forms  Před 8 měsíci +1

      Great units to have, you can do anything with those two in your studio. The E-MU's are still way under the radar IMO. Everyone is focused on Akais while E4's are sitting on Reverb for sub $500. What a deal! Happy to do a video on the hardware setup at some point!

      @@Thought-Forms Exactly! :-) I have the digitakt as the central unit, accompanied with microfreak, minifreak, a bunch of Korg volcas and the nst1. Also some pedals and a Roland j6. I record with a zoom R20. On the road or on lazy days (not enough of these in my life) I have the polyend tracker mini and a field recorder. It's not gear but time and priorities that are the challenge. :-p. It's content like that of yourself that is fuel for my (and many others) creativity. And it's not the result, but the act of experimenting that makes me happy. Screentime doesn't give me that same feeling.

    Awesome stuff, love that woozy PSX sine pad sound! I do have a quick question regarding choosing the right breaks. I have a bunch of different sample libraries (including 90s classics like Jungle Warfare and Planet DnB) but I struggle to find the right break for this style of ambient DnB. Most of the breaks I come across seem too ‘open’, ‘busy’ or ‘heavy’ for my liking. I really like the break sound you got here. It sounds really tight and gives space for all of the other elements in the mix to breathe. Did you pull that break from a particular sample library? Would you happen to have any recommendations for sample packs that contain break loops which are best suited for more ambient DnB? Thanks!

    • @Thought-Forms
      @Thought-Forms  Před 9 měsíci +1

      Cheers brandon! Yea it's tricky to pair the right break up. It really just comes down to diggin & finding something that is perfect - or is close and can be tamed back a little with some small eq adjustments. Lot of jungle / dnb sample packs tend to have a mix of breaks from busy / heavy to more subtle - so its hard to iron down one specific sample pack. This one is the "tiny" break from Jungle Warfare Vol 1 - which is a basic 2-step beat (a kick, a snare, and a hat) - 2-step beats do tend to be pretty sparse & stripped back. That said, my suggestion would be to create a custom drum kit using one-shots to get something similar - and program in a nice 2-step beat. If you really want more "Breakbeat" based breaks, there are the staples: think break or hot pants break, which you can't go wrong with

    How is the learning curve on Bitwig opposed to Ableton?

    • @Thought-Forms
      @Thought-Forms  Před 6 měsíci

      id argue its "slightly" more complex because of the potential - but it is also very similar in a lot of ways. you'll just tend to find more tutorials for learning ableton than you will bitwig - and the bitwig tutorials you find tend to go deep on some of the more advanced concepts (grids, modulation possibilities.) if you're just getting started, id go ableton. if you've produced for any bit of time, bitwig will be cake. if you dont really care and are up for a slightly more difficult challenge, go head first into bitwig
