Hi there! I am Joseph.
I have been an immigrant / expat living in central Portugal along with my beautiful girlfriend Mariana for eight years now.
Together Mariana, my father Clinton and myself, would like to show you a bit of the daily goings on around our Portuguese farm / homestead / smallholding and all of the work we are doing whilst renovating, starting building projects, working with our livestock, DIY and trying to grow our little families own food!

I was trying to work out the house construction, the walls look too thin for stone, so is it brick or concrete block? Also, what was the ceiling height in the ground floor? I know you're a fairly tall chap, and I always try to see if you have to duck down to walk in! @@Farmerforfun

Hi! We came across one on a tour once, it was more like a worm than a snake though, it was tiny haha! Snakes definitely are around, but you don't see them all that often :)
A lovely property. I'm a bit unsure exactly what a "water mine" is. Is it a natural spring that feeds into a man made tank? Thanks.
Nice property. things to look out for 1. check water quality professionally lab tested. ( I bought a property with a contaminated one that had oil in it probably from an old pump that's still there. 2. removal of that cement roof on part of the house needs a specialist contractor. Great views but barking dog would drive me nuts.
Speaking very generally, if you wanted to add a single story extension to the side with a bedroom or two / bathroom, is that something that could be allowed or is it very difficult to obtain such permission? many thanks Rob.

Never been to Portugal but the videos have my interest, first because of how cheap it is but the people also seem very down to earth. Heard insurance could be expensive or difficult to get in Portugal due to wildfires?

Some areas are not covered by insurance companies - Just need to make sure you buy in the right area and then insurance is no problem 😊
It is absolutely tantamount to have your property cleared regularly and to limit trees, growth close to houses. Need to do research on isolated, off the beaten track places with poor access. Love living in rural Portugal.

They are bending people over in Portugal and US I heard, because of "wildfires", certain people can not get a insurance on their house/property (or it is very expensive), which is requiered with the morgage in US, result: they lose the house. Got to be carefull for the: "You will own nothing" rules from our masters lol.

hello are you a real estate agent? For agriculture, there are guide value tables in Germany, divided into arable land, meadows, forest, water moor etc. = UN Unland and depending on the federal state at 0.20 € / m2 pasture at approx. 4.50 -6.50 € / m2, there are also such tables in Their country?

it would be great if sellers would just get the roofs done before selling, buyers just do not want that hassle.
Most are selling because they want the money... Generally speaking small homesteaders with a ruin in central Portugal cannot just go a throw a couple of thousand on a new roof
