Today we toured Xi'an City Wall and Muslim Quarter. The City Wall is HUGE and, even on a tandem that we hired, we didn't make it around the whole thing. The Muslim Quarter was really interesting, unlike any area we had so far visited in China. We sampled some of the delicious food there, including some tasty mutton, then made our way back to our hotel.

The city wall was partially rebuilt, but the majority of the wall itself was built in Ming Dynasty, 14-17 century. Part of the wall was built upon the royal palace wall of Tang Dynasty. Imagine that current city wall only was the palace wall, how big Chang'an was back that time.

i had climbed up from the bottom to the top once when i was a kid, tried to be daredevil. i lived an area about two or three hours away from xi'an city. that was a million years ago. back them, no well maintained. on the top, a lot of ancient bricks for the wall were stolen (locals called "jian", meaning "picked", not stealing). so large part of the top of the wall were dirt ground.

Another suggestion, if you are interested in ancient Chinese history, it is recommended that you go to the Shaanxi Museum of History, do not forget, please ask a guide who knows English. Museums are free, but you usually book tickets online a week in advance, and you can spend a little money to visit them. I hope you like Xi'an and China.

If you want to see the construction of modern civilization, go to Shanghai, Shenzhen, and Hangzhou. If you want to see the natural scenery, go to Huangshan, Zhangjiajie, Huashan, Jiangxi, Yunnan. If you want to experience the plateau ban, go to Xinjiang, Qinghai, and Tibet. If you want to eat delicious food, go to Wuhan, Chengdu, and Chongqing. I wish you a pleasant journey!

Now you learned some Chinese. Obviously, Tokyo 东京 is in Japan, not in China. Japanese used to copy everything from China.
