I was also wondering how many batteries are needed for the internal distortion and how long the battery will last.. or is there an integrated battery indicator? That's what I miss in most active basses.. I want to know for how long the battery lasts :)
Nice review. The DarkRay seems to aim more towards mobile bands that don't want to bring a lot of gear with them to gigs, offering to do 2 things at once but missing out on the important bits of both parts. You don't get individual controll over the effects and you sacrifice your mid tone controll on the bass itself to gain the effect pedals. In my opinion not worth. For the price you are paying for a DarkRay you could get a Sterling Ray 34 and still get your 3-band EQ and then buy the effect pedals separately (and you'd still not be anywhere near the price of a DarkRay). I like the experimental features MusicMan comes up with and their innovation hasn't stopped since the GameChanger guitars but as with previous experiments.. there is no point to these features.
I have a DARKRAY on preorder to be delivered in April. I was thinking about cancelling the pre order due to it being new and still experimental. All Stingrays sound great BUT... This video helped me a lot and I may just cancel it. I have a 2013 Stealth EB Musicman HH stingray with 3 band EQ. I dont think the Darkray with the 2 band will compare. Mids are the most important tone and Darkray left it out. Also curious to see how the built in effects will react with a pedal board and being placed first in the chain before the board. You should do a video on that. Thank You for this!

Two 9V batteries are needed for power supply. We have not tested the specific running time, so it may be safer to have a rechargeable battery

The problem is that is very hard to find a stingray on the market in those days. Hope in 2023 things change
