When I got up to this fight, I was using the Student Witch Soul ( 1:32 ), which resulted in about 5 minutes of Soma and Dimitrii throwing cats at each other. It was the most I laughed at a game in a long time.
Here's how I'd make Dmitrii's fight better: 1. Challenge He's far too easy to hit. If he was to run a bit more, and make more of an effort to jump out of the way of your melee attacks, that'd be great. I also think he should have just a bit more health. 2. Copy style Instead of just copying the soul attacks you use on him, I think it'd be cooler if he kept copying more and more of your soul attacks the more you attack him, regardless of how you attack him. He'd also keep switching between copied soul attacks to keep you on your toes. 3. Rematch When you reach him in the final boss room, you get a rematch with him before the Menace fight. In this battle, he has every soul in the game, and they're all fully upgraded. Every soul he uses has a specific attack pattern, and when he switches to another soul, a transparent image of the monster that the soul belongs to will flash behind him.
One minor thing you didn't mention (but not that important) is that if you don't bother giving him a bullet soul to use, he'll use the attack he got in the cutscene before the battle
After reading the "Mega Man copying abilities" part, I suddenly thought of a brilliant idea for an enemy: Lawsuit Man. His special attack is "Sue Over Plagiarism"!
lol I was just making some stupid joke, so I really didn't have any design plans. But for some reason, I am imagining Dust Man with Miles Edgeworth's Captain Hook/Austin Powers ascot thingie.
In Smash Bros, if Kirby swallows himself, he gains no power unless there was already a copy ability on the other. I'm assuming we can apply that logic here.
I remember the first time I fought this guy, he kicked the snot out of me. I made the mistake of A) using a Guardian soul (White Dragon) on him, and B) Panicking. Didn't stand a chance.
The only problem I have about this boss, as you mentioned yourself, is the fact that you fight him so early. If they waited to the late-game or end-game we would have even more spells to mess around with.
Some bosses in video games should be fought later in the game. God of War II put the Perseus boss fight at a pretty good place. Not too early, but not the final boss either. I can't say the same about Dimitri and Deathstroke (Arkham Origins).
In the end his biggest power is his weakest point, as he can use anything used on him, but then again he can only use what was used on him. Nice video! Although I played the game, there you have a character that can be easily overlooked. To think I could remember the fire dude as a boss but not Dmitrii!
***** In the end, the copy ability is only as useful as what you do with the abilities you've copied. Both Mega Man and Kirby are FAR smarter in using their copied abilities than that guy is.
Do you think this boss might have been more challenging if he was a boss you fought later in the game and he could "remember" the attacks you hit him with? Sort of like Shadow Link from Ocarina of Time, once you use it on him once, he can add it to the AI's Move Pool and use it whenever it would fit best.
+whoisthisgit Ah, Harmony of Despair. An ultimately disappointing game where all "Hard" mode is, is grinding drops. Seriously, could they not have put character levels in, or at least a trading system? I can _never_ get the items that I want...not to mention I suck and desperately need them. >.>

With Dmitrii using both Death and Abaddon souls it's fucking impossible to even get close to him without the Draghignazzo soul (that prevents flinching)
@@johnathonturner2279 Yeah. I know the guy provided artwork for Death Note but most of his redesigns didn't work IMO. Also if there was another fighting game in Castlevania or a sequel, there should be more fighters from other games.
@@dnmstarsi Yeah, I could see an interesting story with Soma where various heroes of his time's past realize he's the next Dark Lord. I could see just about every Belmont, minus Julius unless they take him from before he stops Dracula in 1999 and he gets amnesia, fighting Soma because of that. Though it would also be interesting to see the villains reactions like Death, Carmilla, and even Dracula himself.
This guy was such a pleasant surprise during my first playthrough. I must have fought him like a dozen times before moving on. It was just so much fun getting into duels of impractical attacks with him. The stupid seals, though? Not so much. God bless the people who made patches to remove the need to do them. If not for the Succubus Glitch I don't think I would have been able to finish that first playthrough. I had to do them with a mouse on emulator, and the seals of Death and Abaddon were impossible for me. I'll never get back those two hours trying to beat both bosses without cheats.
Just imagine how harder it would have been to face him in other castlevania games or if in this game all of his copies were maxed soul level by default.
You kidding? I died to this guy twice before figuring it out and resorting to giving him...I think it was the Zombie I gave him. I guess my bad habit of bull-rushing everything kind of attributed to *that* little blunder.

Yeah, Dimitri purposely let his soul be absorbed by Soma in order to copy his powers. However, when he actually tried to use them, they went out of control and exploded into some kind of monstrous entity that you fight as the final boss. I think it's a shame they didn't let you have a proper rematch with him before the actual final boss, since that would have been the perfect time.
Maybe you could include this game in Ghastly Game Glitches, too? I've performed the "succubus glitch" a few times, and it really might be a help for when you do a New Game +. But, it's up to you.

One amazing things from Dmitrii when Julius use his Grand Cross area skill, is that Dmitrii is not channeling that skill at all (he can move, jump around, and attack with knife when he want to). THE best soul to use on Dmitrii is Yorick, assuming you know its little secret. For those of you who don't, here it is: If you hit the skull you throw with a slide kick, you kick it forward. Anything the skull hits after being kicked takes TEN TIMES the attack's normal damage. The timing can be tricky at first, but once you master it, it's incredibly satisfying to abuse. However, Dmitrii cannot do this kick ever - he's stuck with a weak throw with essentially zero range.
