As I said in the video but seems not to be getting across to a lot of people (sad times) - I’m aware oxford isn’t for everyone! It’s a very unique experience in many ways but that doesn’t make it bad. Yes, some of the traditions may seem daunting at first, but the fact students have voted to keep many of them shows they are enjoyed by many! Just because you don’t like the look of them doesn’t make people who do enjoy them horrible. Oxford does have huge access issues, but it is also home to lots of amazing, talented, lovely students who don’t all deserve to be painted with the same negative brush ☺️ x
Just consider that when you make assumptions that all people at oxford are horrible you’re not only doing a huge injustice to all the amazing people there who are being part of much needed change and access work, but you’re actively perpetuating the stereotype you think oxford needs to get rid of! X
Im applying to Oxford - what college is the most friendliest and down to earth for english because you said maugdalen is ..
Eve Bennett 👍🏼
@@miajoely6615 Hi, I'm a student at Lincoln college which is small and very friendly! I do modern languages not English but the atmosphere at Lincoln is very accepting and the people there are lovely in my experience. Small colleges are good vibes for sure!
@@RevisionWithEve Love this - especially as there are plenty of people from underrepresented areas, social backgrounds, and state schools who work so hard for awareness and change!! I get that people on the outside will only hear the popular news stories about this uni, but I like that you always try to make people aware that it's unique and full of hardworking and talented people who want to leave behind a better Oxford than they entered into (:
19:00 - pls make a video abt each college and their stereotypes / the kinds of ppl who go there or like the general atmosphere of each one because college websites don’t give this kind of info, thanks❤️
I would second this, looking at colleges you want a non-biased student perspective, someone who has experience but who hasn’t been asked by the college to say nice things

I’m starting at Oxford in October! This was really fun light-hearted video, Eve, thanks for the insider perspective!
Not sure why people are holding you responsible for the not so great aspects of Oxford when you're literally debunking myths and saying that there's still a lot of work that needs to be done?? Def agree with everything you said -- Oxford takes a while to get used to, but the less questionable traditions definitely do grow on you over time! (Also lol that 'most beautiful colleges' TikTok made me mad too)
This was such a good video! Thanks for always being real Eve!
1:19 This casetify case is just amazing. They are protective but not bulky, they got soooo many designs to choose 💕totally worth it!
aaaa you and ruby always post at the exact same time and it’s always such a choice of who’s to watch first lol
obviously not ruby
and lydia too !
k that’s not nice
@とーだい土屋 eve Bennett goes to Oxford and Ruby goes to Essex University
Sb b she actually goes to Exeter! 😊
You could say Oxford is as supportive as a broken bed with a 30 year-old mattress!
I totally get the work pressure, I go to the University of York and our terms are between 8-10 weeks long so it very much is work hard, play hard xxx
I love the fact you have traditions!! It would be such a shame to get rid of that stuff, looks amazing Eve :) xx
in year 9 i actually went to oxford for a say, honestly its so nice and aesthetic looking!!
Ahaha this is so so funny- loved this video!! ❤️❤️
Could you please make a quick fire assumptions video Oxford based? xx
Ooh for sure x

I’m applying for Cambridge next year and I’m so so excited just at the thought of going !!
Good luck with it, I hope u get in!
It’s been a year, did you get in?!!
i‘d love to see a video of you talking about the different colleges
This was both a good laugh and informative ❤️
So glad you enjoyed x
Thanks for the video, loved it!
Thank you x
Love this video Eve xx
Not going to Oxford but this video is so funny and Oxford looks so fun! ignore the hate dont understand why people are getting so offended x
This was so much fun!!!
Glad you enjoyed!! Xxx
To avoid offending people you could do the colleges video in a format where you directly ask people going to each college to debunk the myths and speak the truth on their respective college. In that way you can’t be accused of “shading” other colleges! Just an idea :)

I’m going to Oxford (hopefully) this autumn and I wanted to ask if you could have people stay round overnight (eg. If your siblings come to visit) and how much kitchen access you had in first year at LMH? How dressed up do you get for formal, like full prom dress or just a normal dress? Where do you buy your sub fusc from? I love this video, you really make me excited to go xx
Hey, me too ! I’ve got an offer from Queen’s, what are you studying?
Fenella Lamle biology at st Hughs, you?
I just wanted to say congrats on getting in - that's awesome! ^^
Poppy Lochland Congrats !! French and Spanish for me. Fingers crossed for results day :)
Thought I'd give you as much info as I can. I graduated last year from Cambridge but there's a lot of similarities. So what I say might not be exactly right but might be helpful. Having people round overnight, at might college, you were technically supposed to sign them in with the porters and they could only stay for 3 nights but no one did that, siblings and partners came and went and some stayed for like two weeks at a time. Kitchen access I can't answer, it's really variable depending on college. Formal is whatever you want; I've gone in a floor length (not quite prom) dress, I've gone in sparkly trousers and a crop top. Most people tend to settle on the middle ground, sort of like cocktail dress or bodycon, or trousers and shirts/blouses. And subfusc I also can't answer because that's not a cambridge thing. I hope this was some help at least
Omg you've grown soso much I love you 😍
As a long time follower
Your skin looks amazing right now !! X
I’m just watching this now for the first time and the girl in the tiktok at 11:48 went to my school and was in my year group (and sixth form tutor group). I’d seen that tiktok before but I didn’t expect her to be in this video omg
11:32 YESSSSSSSS nativity that's literally what I thought when it started playing because of that star costume!!!!
Just wanted to clarify that your not expected to know latin for Classics at Oxford. They have a four year course where the first year is intensive Latin or Ancient Greek learning (which can be from scratch you just need an aptitude for languages).
Fair! A lot of my mates studying classics have said they do feel at a disadvantage compared to private school kids who have either studied Latin before or can afford private tuition alongside, and in modern languages they sometimes assume you know Latin that will help you with translations which can be very frustrating :(
Eve Bennett Yes that’s what I’m scared of 😩 I’d love to do Oxford’s Classics and English course and I was lucky enough so do a GCSE but nothing beyond. And Classics does have abit of a ‘snobby’ reputation, are there lots of other state school students who study it?
It’s deffo got one of the lowest proportion of state school students and I’ve heard it has major access problems, it’s not very hot on diversity and access as a faculty from what I’ve heard :( but don’t fully let that discourage you, if everyone was put off applying there would never be change! You can be the change if that makes sense, a few of my state school friends do classics! X
Hi, I’ve just finished my second year of Classics at Oxford and can confirm that the majority of people at ox doing classics are from private schools. However there isn’t a really snobbish attitude among them and it’s more the result of few state schools offering Latin or Greek. Also the first year is not just intensive language learning but language learning (from scratch if you need) but language alongside the usual essays etc. It’s a four year course for everyone regardless of your a levels (it’s at Cambridge where the course is only 4 years if you don’t have Latin). Send me a message if you would like more info on Classics but just wanted to say a state school background should not result in an unhappy experience
As a Swiss classics student, I'm very surprised that people think you can study that at uni level without having at least notions of Greek and Latin and quite shocked that there is a problem of accessibility because of that (for context I've studied Latin for 6 y. and Greek for 5 in state school before starting uni).
Nice experience. Presented very skilfully. By the way your presentation skills are awesome.
Rewatched a lot of your old vids with your side parting and then seeing you with a middle parting, you look so different!
Loved this vid xxx
Geez. Look at all the comments gunning for Eve! I simply don’t understand it. I think it was a great video and in no way was it intended to show Oxford as a superior university to any other.
Eve, Ignore the comments from people who intentionally set out to take offence at every opportunity xx
Thanks so much, just had a rough week so feeling a bit more sensitive than usual haha, I need to stop being such a people pleaser! X
@@RevisionWithEve oh no eve hope u feel better soon
IKR it may be so frustrating for her..sorry eve hope u feel better🥰
Could you ever post a video explaining each college and what they are known for
I absolutely loved this, I took a gap year after my a levels but I'm heading to uni to do forensic psychology this year and this is making me look forward to it (providing corona doesn't ruin it) xx
Good luck I’m sure you’ll love it x
@@RevisionWithEve thank you! Good luck on your year abroad too xx
What university are you studying that at because I’ve found that not a lot of unis offer Forensic psychology??
@@ellienorshellstrop2489 Sunderland! But yeah I feel your pain, i think a lot only offer psychology or psychology with counselling but they had such an extensive range of courses it was insane xx
Caitlin Johnston yeah I only asked as I am (hopefully) starting Portsmouth in october and I am also studying forensic psychology but I hadn’t seen it offered anyway else
HAHAHHAHA the mozart thing was in my (teddy hall) house which is not mertonesque at all
I really do not get the negative comments. As I am from The Netherlands, I of course don't know everything about English colleges and traditions, but you have traditions everywhere. There are 'drinking societies' at my university here as well. We have elitist - or non-elitist - societies that got in the news for the wrong things, but there are also many positive sides to societies and there are many wonderful societies that include all members and are open and welcoming for everyone. I think we all need to focus a bit more on the positive side of everyone's unique experiences and laugh at this video - as it is very funny. Love it Eve xx
Oxford is so dreamy
It’s a pretty city with a lot of amazing people - for all its faults I’ve had a blast x
Wish our uni had a tradition of trashing. Looks SO fun!
thanks for your content :)
When you talked about how the people make a uni good or bad, I 100% agree. I went to a uni located 5h away from my home, because it had such good "reviews" from students about the professors and the staff. I have two uni's two hours away from home but one had a low score in the rankings and the second one is known for literally bullying their students (though they are high in the rankings) so even though I applied and got into all three, I went to the furthest one which I thought would be the best fit for me 😂 love it here though, I have an amazing group and the staff is so nice. They expect you to know everything and more but if you're struggling, they're more than willing to help you. So if someone is making a decision now - I recommend talking to some students at the different uni's that you're considering and asking them about the things that concern you ❤
Tbf the languages one is 37% AT INTERVIEW so it's around 17% total cos there's so many steps before you get into the interview room
This makes me want to go to oxford so bad. My university in New Zealand has like 0 traditions.
Great video!! Keep up the good work. You inspire me to make better videos on my own channel :)
This was sooo funny omg! 😂😂 I love you! Btw, might be a silly question, but do Oxford students have lectures or tutorials etc on weekends? Or is it just catching up on work?
Hey Eve love ur videos, I was wondering if you could do a video about all the oxford colleges??
lol 12:34 i saw this tiktok the other day and i was like imagine if eve bennet saw this lmao
The welfare and term time thing I feel that with Durham we have short terms and the main uni is TRASH, I legit took a year out and moved colleges cause of how bad I found it but my new college is amazing and I’m v happy so it does depend on colleges a lot and no one realises that I feel
Lana Joy hey so I think it depends on the college a lot but I think living in is super important in first year as I didn’t know anyone who lived out BUT there were exchange students who did and they were still very involved so I think as long as you show up to events and things you’ll be all good in making friends in college and there’s societies and things too and the general uni is a bit of a mess but if you have a supportive college it’s totally fine
this was hilarious 😂
Hi, great video! Do you think you could do one on the different college stereotypes?
Oooh I could do I dunno if I’d offend a lot of people
@@RevisionWithEve do it yky don't need to please anyone lol
Please!!!!! I'm really interested!
I loveee this video ❤❤🥰
This is such a great video, as always! By the way, are you still given work to do in between terms at University?
Also can you do a video rating all the oxford colleges and like what’s good and bad about them ☺️ thanks
Can you maybe do a video on how you actually end up learning to write essays and know what to do at uni? Im going next year and I'm like HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO KNOW WHAT TO DO..!! 😊 ty x
second this!
It seems terrifying but for me at least I felt pretty supported. I wasn't graded on any of my essays (just exams) so even if the first one was terrible, I got advice for how to make the next one better. One of my tutors literally banned me from using certain words until I could prove I could write an essay without them because I overused them so much 😂 but yeah, so first year the essay titles were really similar to lectures, the reading lists were really detailed and precise about what to read and then as you got used to it by third year they'd be like 'meh, pick any essay you want, find your own reading list'
I've just finished my first year at Cambridge doing an English degree and I still have no idea what makes a good essay lol my Supervisors have all told me different things 😂
Can you please do an Oxford colleges reputations/stereotypes video?
I would love a video about college stereotypes because I'm applying this Year
I’ll add it to my list!
‘Sub Fusc’ is short for ‘Sub Fuscus’- it means dark brown in Latin :)
Ahhhhh that’s it!!!!!! Couldn’t quite remember thank you! Xx
This was such a cool idea!!! I was like omg that’s me
Hehehe I really enjoyed doing it!
could you please do a video about the college you go to? or any others you know? i'm hopefully going to study French and philosophy and i'd like to know which one is more suited for me! x
for sure! X
Love this video, Eve! I have a place at Univ College for English and am a bit worried about what you said about the support at Oxford in general not being good - do you know what it's like at Univ? Or if students can use support provision between different colleges? Thanks :) x
Colleges tend to have welfare deans, peer supporters (student helpers you can talk to in confidence), a nurse and lots of staff you can talk to if you’re struggling. I know some have money to help pay for therapy also and generally if you’re struggling there will be people go support you x
@@RevisionWithEve thank you, that's reassured me a lot. I appreciate all your fab videos! X
I am so jealous. Not because I wanna be at Oxford, but I wanna have that kind of college experience
It is so lovely having a smaller community ❤️
just to let u know there are loads of other universities with similar colleges like Durham and York (first ones that come to mind but im sure there are others)
I pursuing textile design and in India we just don't have that kind of college culture.

I don’t think I could ever go to oxford I feel like every one is a posh rich kids with sprinkle of ethnics even from the videos and that’s not my background at all I feel like I wouldn’t hv the same types of convos
I just know I wouldn’t fit in at pretty much every uni in a city 😂🤧 I come from a small village from the middle of nowhere, I went to some kind of summer school last year and I was the only one from my school accepted. I found it so hard to make friends that week, I just couldn’t relate to the other kids at all :/
Lana Joy yes but even the videos I see from people that go there I feel like I would hv nothing in common with them cause everyone seems so uptight and had such a different up bringing
Sarah oh I live in the city I understand what you’re saying tho
I live in oxford but don't go to oxford university. Oxford has got a really good youth culture, trust me its more fun than is perceived
hi yeh it’s not that it’s that the youth seem more posh and tbh we wouldn’t have anything in common or the same humour
I saw you in Fever Eve! I was too nervous to come over though😥😥
Are university formals compulsory? Because they seem awful, I'd hate having to go to those formals
No they’re not but they’re lovely! Candle lit chats with mates and wine and good food it’s fab haha
@@RevisionWithEve Oo, now those don't sound so bad! I was always worried that if I go to uni I'll be forced to go to them, thanks for putting my mind at ease☺
Normally there will be a couple of compulsory ones, matriculation, graduation etc but if you don't want to go you don't have to. I loved them and went loads but if you don't want to there's no pressure to
nope they are not (except for the first one) and i don't like them either.
They are at a couple of colleges like Pembroke (I think its 3x a week but only for the first year) if you check on the colleges' websites they'll say if they are or not, but almost all colleges don't have compulsory formals. They're a lot of fun though!
"academic rigour" IM SO TRIGGERED 😂

pls rate the colleges and tell us the ACTUAL stuff about them plss
Why hate on someone who has obviously worked hard for a large majority of their life and will continue to do so? No matter what their background is it is very clear that she is purely there due to her intelligence, academic background and work ethic. It is possible for anyone to do the same. Even if that path is looking damaged, u can overcome and adapt. So rather than hating on an individual who has achieved more than you, learn from them and ask them questions. We all are blessed as humans, the very people we are. And even if there was a point where she put in a slight “flex” about her past, she damn well has the right to because it wasn’t handed to her. She made it, shaped it, and took it and you can all do the same.
omg as a French speaker ik nobody says sacre bleu at all
I was at St John's many years ago. I'm nice! Lol xx
If Universities tested INNATE intelligence, not the timidity, conformity and slave like commitment that A Levels show, then there would be no access problem. Uni way better back in the 80s when you didn't even need A Levels, it was based on their own more intelligence based tests. Hope you'll think about this Eve.
Can you do a haul? I like any, but stuff like handbags and stuff!
Really nice video😊 don't understand why people are hating
This sounds like my kind of school
Does trashing completely ruin your robes? Like will it wash out?!
Niamh Hardman I doubt they would get ruined, and if it really is that bad the robes aren’t that expensive and you only get trashed once a year
