@@JoburgBoet Yes! It's *impossible* to make good friendships there unless you grew up there! And the food? It's ... edible. But Kiwis think it's the best in the world. It's *nothing* compared to an American BBQ or SA braai. And I don't know if NZ even has a culture, to be honest. I think it's mainly just people getting together once in a while in *closed* groups, or people going out and getting blind drunk. And it's so difficult to have meaningful conversations because you can't say anything critical -- people will say "You're too negative!" Or if you mention something you don't like about NZ, they fall apart. But I think what pushed me over the edge, after five long years, is that people are so flakey. Like if you invite someone somewhere, they'll say yes, but then they'll "ghost" you. And when you show that you're even a LITTLE BIT upset by that, they gaslight you and tell you that you're insane.

I visited the UK for the first time when I was 18 for a holiday and to study English for two weeks. I was so anxious. I guess the officers are smart enough and well-trained to identify the person of interest who would have the potential to overstay or commit crimes. I remember when I applied for the UK visa I was so worried and when I arrived at Heathrow Airport, I was so anxious, but the officers calmed me down and helped me to find my way. I haven't been questioned like those people. It was such a good experience. I decided to study again in the UK when I was 24 and I stayed 2 years between Sunderland and Newcastle. I have to say my experience was amazing! I've visited all cities and I enjoyed my stay and now almost 10 years I have lived in New Zealand. When I arrived in New Zealand I had £6000 and Immigration asked me if I had anything to declare, I answered very honestly and said this money in £ not NZD so I don't know if I should claim it. she calculated that it was more than NZD10,000 so she took me to another place where I sit and fill a form of where this money came from. I answered the questions and they allowed me to enter. It was such an easy-breezy straightforward process. I believe it is very important, to be honest, and don't play games because you'll be caught one day. I haven't seen anyone go away with his/her lies.

Love Muffin I was born in Canada but I went to Kenya for four months. When I was returning back to Canada, I had a stop in San Francisco and the Americans treated me and my sister very stereotypically . It was almost amusing to see that the racism treated towards blacks & muslims was very true. But I remember they sent me and my sister towards the police side to be “further investigated” and they gave us a blank piece of paper and they asked us to write down, the address of what university we attended, adresses we’ve visited in Kenya, address in Canada, what major we have selected etc. It was a whole list of person questions the verbally asked us and made us write down. Then they asked us why we didn’t have a “somali passport”, and when we told them “we were born in Canada” they looked very disturbed by that comment.
I kept thinking that I shouldn’t give my school adresss besides home adress, but a lot of the wuestions seemed a bit invasive. I felt like they didn’t need to know all that info, why does it matter to them? I just went to Kenya to visit family, why did they need to know everything about my life in Canada ?
I kept thinking what if I just lied, would they be able to confirm it? And if I did... what could they possibly do? “Oh no she lied about what uni she went to”
Like who cares, it won’t be the end of the world.
