Your smile said it all! Joe is much loved by us older folks. This right here is an impeccable and stunning live performance by him! He radiates his heart and soul when he sings. Could listen to him all day every day!
You are the Only One to give CREDIT, we'll deserved credit to the guitar Soloist! I love you man, you are for realllll. Good, great, God human being...
When I first heard this song, I was a teenager. The album was $5.99, I had to run out and buy it. I played it so many times, I wore it out. This is one song that you don't forget.
That gravely voice was made for songs like this. If there are miserables, it's those who have never been in love and can't see why his voice totally goes on the last word.
The guitarist was American Cliff Goodwin who was Joe's guitarist and musical director through most of the late 70's and early 80's. The drummer was former Procol Harum member Barry "BJ" Wilson, the man who never seemed to own a drum stool. I've seen him live and on video sitting behind his kit on a weird selection of plastic garden chairs and once on an imitation colonial dining room chair!
Joe Cocker never had an original song, all he performed were covers of great songs, BUT he did it on his own style, making the cover even better than the original. He got a very unique talent, to pour his whole heart on his singing.
Yes, Van. Joe gives his all to every song. That's why we love him. Find his old Mad Dogs and Englishmen tour and wonder how the guy survived giving all as he did there every show on wonderful performances of Delta Lady and Feelin Alright and many others.
Billy Preston originally released it in May 1974, with Joe Cocker covering it 2 months later. Preston's version was faster, and he actually wrote it (with one of his usual collaborators, Bruce Fisher), with its inspiration being Preston's mother. This slower version is the iconic one, covered by several other artists, and unless you hear Preston's, it's hard to imagine it sung at any other tempo. (Preston's version, check it out: czcams.com/video/G3Xv9SVtJdY/video.html )
You should react to Joe Cocker's versions of "She Came In Through The Bathroom Window" and "You Can Leave Your Hat On." The guy had one of my all time favourite voices. And he did it all while drunk out of his mind. That's impressive. The entire Mad Dogs and Englishmen album is terrific. Some real bangers on that one like "Feelin' Alright." I'm sure he was. He was like Mr. Lahey from the Trailer Park Boys - never had a single hangover because he never let himself sober up for long enough. The guy must have been on an ethanol drip. It's amazing how long those guys lasted considering all the booze and drugs they did back in the day.
Joe Cocker was once late for a gig one night, and a huge granite mountain stood between him and the concert hall. Joe chewed a tunnel through that mountain and made it to the gig on time. To this day you can still hear the gravel in his voice!
So so beautiful I'm still crying..AWESOME REACTION, THAN YOU MUCH!! Aww..and you sang Joe Cockers song BEAUTIFUL, TO TO YOUR LADY!! I'm so emotional..how sweet you romantic PERSON YOU!!
Van - If you love the saxophone 🎷 GERRY RAFFERTY "Bakers Street" has iconic solos - possibly the most well known. All it takes is one bar & you know it's "Bakers Street". 🔥🎷🎵
That is the exact song I would sing to my brand new red headed baby boy! I’d look at him sleeping and then the song with the most grateful heart of love and joy came the tears! To this very day I listen to that song, 47 yrs later and tears coming now! He’s still the only reason I’m still here as a normal everyday person! Otherwise I’d be where I was at 17…the streets! I gave birth he gave me life! One I never thought I would ever know! I even wrote a poem for him on his 21st birthday with the same feelings of gratitude! BTW he wrote that for his newborn! I never knew that until just 1 yr ago!
Shame on the two that gave this song a thumbs down.. this is greatness that you just had the pleasure of hearing. It’s a shame you didn’t recognize it.
Joe touches your heart in a special way. He felt the music so intensely. After I watch him & get all misty, then I have to watch his lighter side.."You Can Leave Your Hat On" (Official video) does the trick. Such a fun, sexy song. Btw, love the Halloween effects, especially there toward the end.🎃👻🧡
Been watching you for years and know how you feel about your family and your wife, you are a good man Van, also glad to see you wake up to the political thing. Thanks for the content and keep it coming please.
Love your take on it. agree, anybody who thumbed down Joe's cover are miserable people. His performances are hella better than his studio work, but THIS version is the definitive version of the song.
I love the feeling and vulnerability in his voice. ❤️
Your smile said it all! Joe is much loved by us older folks. This right here is an impeccable and stunning live performance by him! He radiates his heart and soul when he sings. Could listen to him all day every day!
What made this video special was the moment this song took you back to your wedding. It's a song that's made for moments in life like that.
He didn't sing songs, he lived them.
Every Joe Cocker song, cover or not, feels like HIS song! Such a great soul. Also, your wedding must have been amazing!
It would be a distinct pleasure to meet you.......truly......and...your pauses tell a story.....
Joe never fails to give his whole self to his songs. Thank you, Joe, and RIP.
I love joe cocker. He was an artist before his time so raw and emotional. You actually felt his songs.
Yes

My husband used to sing this to me and our newly born son in 1974! Such sweet memories! Music is just the best time machine ever!

Those that gave a thumbs down don't know music and you are correct they must be miserable. Love this 🥰❤
That gravely voice was made for songs like this. If there are miserables, it's those who have never been in love and can't see why his voice totally goes on the last word.
Absolutely agree with you on this song.
Joe Cocker sang with so much soul and heart and he didn't sound like anyone else ever.

Beautiful.

Nah he had tons of original songs, just his biggest hits were coverers. Unless you count love lift us up where we belong, but that was a duet.
He just made ever cover he did, HIS
I seen Joe live in concert. Brilliant absolutely brilliant 👍
Joe sings with his entire body and soul 🖤

This was actually written by Billy Preston and Bruce Fisher, and was on Preston's 9th Studio LP in 1974.

One of the most beautiful songs ever….and no one does it like Joe.
Joe Cocker, another great!!! To me, his FIRE song is “The Letter”, Studio version 🔥

Loved Joe from the start. Pure, raw, emotional. Absolutely breathtaking.
Love Joe's "The Letter!!"
Glad you enjoyed this!! 👍🏽❤
I had the pleasure of seeing him in Birmingham, Alabama over 20 years ago with Tina Turner.
I love after the first 4 words you paused the video. Joe Cocker gives his heart and SOUL to his songs as is apparent with this song.
One of the great singers... amazing and beautiful !

His whole body goes into the songs he sings.
I could sing this song to my wife everyday.
fully agreeing with you!
His version of I Get by with a Little Help from My Friends is really good too!!!
Joe Cocker was the best when he had Leon Russel doing the arrangements and playing the piano..Leon also had an amazing voice.
Shame on the two that gave this song a thumbs down.. this is greatness that you just had the pleasure of hearing. It’s a shame you didn’t recognize it.
🥺🥰❤️❤️❤️
ALMOST A QUARTER MILLION SUBS. GOOD JOB.
THIS. This is my song I sang to my now 27 year old son, as I breastfed him everyday. I CANNOT listen to this without sobbing hysterically!
Yes. This is HIS song! Congrats for using the most beautiful song in the world for your wedding.
Joe Cocker sang with such raw emotion that you felt it in your soul.
