The Bravest Guardsman on Terra

- The Siege of Terra saw many of the most barbaric and horrifying acts of the Horus Heresy. But, amongst all that horror, it also saw some of its greatest acts of heroism and valour - often from those least expected.

Angron came for him because his adamantium balls clanged too loud
*CLANG* OI ANGRON! FIGHT ME BITCH! *CLANG* *CLANG*
*ANGRON HATES CLANG OF ADAMANTIUM BALLS!!!!*
too funny but true 👍
Bro had to be nerfed somehow😔
And because bro balls were bigger than him😂😂😂
He tried dodging his attacker but his massive balls of brass slowed him down
Love it! 🤣
@@TabletopTom i imagine his wife did to
Not brass, man. That's Khorne's whole shtick, and our man Ollie spent his last moments giving the Blood God-b**** and his champion-of-tantrums-and-failure the bird.
Edit: the Aquila*. Last moments flipping the Aquila. My bad
I'd have expected him to put up his middle finger to Horus right ebforte the blow landed.
The weakest Terra's guardsman VS The strongest traitor Primarch.

The indomable human spirit screams in this one
I much preferred the original story of Ollanius Pius where he stood in front of Horus when the Emperor was wounded.
technically that's still canon since it's been specified that there's various versions depending on the faction
the guards believe it was ollanius pious, the space marines believe it was sanguinius, the inquisition and custodes believe it was a custodes
far as I remember anyway
The Emperor knows Him as “One of the OGs”
@@Peter_Turbo4Ollanius is older than the emperor and probably knows his true name, but Ollanius never lusted for power, he understood he was part of humanity and to allow humanity to make their choices governing themselves because ultimately they'll do the right thing themselves, he lived since mesopotamia and the destruction of the tower of Babel, he saw civilizations rise and fall time and again, he had the utmost faith in humanity
@@the98themperoroftheholybri33 That all came well after the fact. In original canon, Olly was just a run-of-the-mill guardsman with big brass balls, who stepped up to defend his wounded emperor.
@@bradsimpson8724initially it was a unnamed terminator which is still favorite and Ollanus getting on the vengeful spirit is a plothole since, The Emperor, Sanguinius and Dorn and a squad of Custodes teleported
If Angron wasn’t corrupted, he would have liked to know Olly
even while hes not a daemon he might accidently kill him while having a polite conversation
Why would it be unexpected for a Guardsman to stand and fight until death? Space Marines get many implants but not one of those upgraded organs gives a man courage nor faith. The Guard are the bravest of humanity in 40k.
I’m totally with you on that, but I think, after weeks of fighting the horrors of the galaxy, and exhausted beyond measure, getting charged by Angron might just make rethink my choices in life 😂
Nice sentiment but space marines do get a ton of combat stims and adrenaline boosts
Space Marines also get mental conditioning while they are aspirants. This is that whole they shall know no fear.
@@JesusTorres-ue3yr Neither stimulants nor adrenaline give you faith in the Emperor of Mankind my brother. You either have it or you don't.
Well space marines have their "they shall know no fear" - great training, best equipment, genetically enhanced and probably some brain altering so they actually know no fear.
The small guardsman on the other hand standing strong in the face of horror is something special because he has fear as all normal humans.
It would be like a hamster wielding a toothpick, standing its ground against a charging T-Rex.
That Hamster gained the T-rexs respect.
Honestly you gotta give it to the Hamster, that takes nuts.

Grey knight, loading bolter pistol: “uh huh…”
The Adeptus Custodes behind him: "Don't think about it"
I don't think the custodian would stop the grey knight like he got better things to worry about than a guardsmen about to be killed by a grey night. But had it been a space wolf then you can bet that they grey knight would have gotten an power axe in him before he even manged to aim his bolter.
@@MNM-lq9te there was actually an instance of a guardsmen being protected by a custodes until he served his purpose
@@bruh8545 "until he served his purpose" does that imply that the custodes just willingly let the guardsmen die or does it mean he left the guardsmen to go his own path.
There are custodes that do protect imperials and guardsmen if they were to become important in the future but an lonly guardsmen about to be executed by a grey knight wouldn't bother the custodes much i would inmagine.
@@MNM-lq9te well, a commissar was going to execute him, but instead got executed by the custodes, so after a dozen years the custodes stopped protected the guardsmen and left him, then that same guardsmen died for surviving his initial execution date

Angrons ego broke before the Guard!
I'm pretty sure he didn't move because of his heaviest balls
ROFL
I like the idea that he was also the last Catholic in the galaxy and that his sacrifice made him a saint.
Why would he be the last Catholic?
@@_Plutonyan old lore, apparently Olanius Pius was a “Catharic” and wasn’t a big fan of the imperial truth. His newest rendition is a fairly decent bit different than the old version so I’m not sure how they’ll handle his iconic sacrifice on the Vengeful Spirit.
He isn't catholic, his wife was catholic
By techinality it also made him the pope
lmao now he is St Olly?
This dude was absolutely hilarious! Such a great character.
C’mon Bessie dont let me down now! Shooting his nades and didnt take one step back against Angron.
Overwhelming odds. You die running or you die fighting. Either way you die. The choice is clear.
Not since the cadians have i seen a guardsman have the balls to stand up to such impossible odds. But if Sly Marbo was around-
*Takes a bolter to the head*

Different character my guy
ollanius pius was in the throne room
Angron, who was your most skilled foe?
My brother the angel of baal.
Is that one of the sources of your rage besides the nails?
No that would be the guardsman
Can imagine that Khorne Daemon's jaw closed when he sees the Guard's chaotic grin.
It ain't the chaotic "crazy for battle "smile that would be desired by Khorne nor chaotic "Masochist-ic" Smile of Slaneesh.
It's a pure, chaotic smile that could only carved in the face of humans. Followed by a single line that came out from the Guard's lips
"Wanna bet?"
It's the smile of a man pushed to his brink, challenging impossible odds.
A way to laugh instead of cry, the smile of one who may be weak of body, but is corageous and strong of heart.
Ollie was too manly for Angron to allow to live. He could not stand how awesome Ollie was.
If Angron wasnt a corrupted daemon he would have looooved the guardsman and promoted him on the spot
This is why you never underestimate the Guard. These Brave Man and Woman have nothing what could give a sense of security in this universe except one another. And still, they carry out their duty, for their homes, the emperor and everything the imperium should have been.

@@CaptainGrief66 I’m talking bout the statement they made
Interesting - is this new retconned lore for Ollianus the guardsmen standing up to Horus?
Dan Annett modified the lore in the recent Siege of Terra books to say that Pius’ myth is a conflation of Olly Piers (the Guardsman in this video), and Ollanius Persson (the perpetual).
Olly spends a lot of time with a remembrancer in the book, and they joke that the remembrancer should say he personally fought beside the Emperor. It’s a fun way to show how the myth was born from ordinary conversations.
@@TabletopTom Well I’m glad they did that as opposed to removing that regular guardsmen completely! Thank you for bringing this to my attention!
Kind of, we haven't seen the end yet but the actual Oll Pious is on Terra during the siege and likely will be on the Vengful Spirit. This story is kind of what starts the Oll Pious myth, Piers even remarks that "no hero was ever named Ollanius, change it to Olympos or something."
It’s already out, turns out it wasn’t olly but I won’t say who it was for spoilers sake.
@@maxdickings6874Ollie Piers is actually implied to be the grandson or relative of the real Ollanius Pius who was the world’s oldest perpetual and the Emperor’s original Warmaster and best bro before Malcador. After the Siege of Terra the two different Ollies actions got confused and merged together by the Remembrancers due to both of them having been fighting alongside the Emperor’s forces during the Siege and the facts that they both looked alike and had similar names.
This guy story go everywhere, despite those clanky balls bigger than Baals.
Ollie Piers, Olly Persson... Is this the latest fucking retcon of Ollanius Pius? Angron nothing, Ollanius saw Horus lay a beatdown on the Emperor himself, and before Horus could land the killing blow, Ollanius Pius stood to his Emperor's defense. He got obliterated, of course, but it gave the Emperor the time and clarity of mind to finally Delete Horus. And ever since, he's been held up as a shining example, which is why GW hates him, and keeps trying to ruin him, retcon him, or make us all forget him. The Order of Ollanius Pius, however, does not forget.
You dropped this 👑
Ollanius Pius may be hated by GW, but we will never let his name go forgotten.
His bravery shall be remembered so long as the imperium stands!
The glowing white bloodstain coupled with the halo over his head goes fucking HARD
So he is the guy from the artwork with Horus Heresy in reverse.
Ollianus Pius stood with the emperor, I'll have none of these new fangled inquisitorial redactions to the records. We cannot treat our favourite Roman Catholic guardsman this way.
The Imperial Guard, the biggest badasses in the Imperium, cause they step up even when the Space Marines piss there pants.
Marines are so boring. Guardsmen is where the fun lies.
Space marines aren’t brave. They just don’t know fear. Guardsmen know fear yet they still stand and fight against the horrors. That is true bravery.
-Me
Key missing point to is at that point he’s alone standing there as he could not find anyone left alive to stand next to him
This is such a devastating retcon.... absolutely unforgivable just as bad as the angel dying by just being beaten to death...
I believe, if Angron wasn't a mindless blood starved barbarian at that point, he probably would have admired the tenacity of a lone human fighter standing his ground, not only against a space marine, but a demon primearc. Angron actually comforted one of his dying emperor loyal sons after he fought so damn hard
Olly's Corpse starch must have been sought after.
Ollanius Pius. The Emperor’s truest son.
"Upland hooaa"
All I'm getting is that a guardsman fought a daemon primarch and lost lol
Pretty much. If only it didn't shred the last spark that held the Emperor from obliterating his son.
Died fighting than ended up running
Angron: AHHHHH
Ollie: *AAAAAAAAAAA*
Angron: OH FINALLY A FIGHT
100% how it went down 😂
Our battle will be legendary!
Seriously what is that name of that weapon he keeps holding in the images?
Looks like volkite to me
Look like a boomshot from gears
Looks like a Volkite or Graviton weapon.
"If I can buy just one second for everyone else, then imagine the time a mere million of us can buy humanity"
The last art work goes HARDDDDD 🔥🔥🔥
I think that art is from the fanfic lionel heresy
Make him a saint!
I like it that they found a way to not retcon the myth of Ollanius Pius, but to transform it and present as another example of distorted lost knowledge without deleting the act itself.
"Bet" said Olly.
Man really said “I’m ready, how bout you?!”
Ten thousand years later, the guard still holds the line...
He died blocking the Eternity Gate with his balls.
I love the ghost version of the guardiansmen with the glowing light through the middle of him.
Guess who got to him and how.
that guard better be promoted to adeptus custodes
Standing up to Angron is pretty badass, but I heard he jumped in between Horus and the Emperor when Horus was beating the Emperor upside the head with that giant f%cking mace he carried around.
Anyone with that level of courage is a worthy foe for the primarch of the red sands.
That last artwork looks so good.
He had the courage of a guinea pig...
The courage to scream at an ape 100x his size
He wouldve ran away but the weight of his adimantium balls weighed him down so much he had no choice.
UPLAND TERCIO HOO! THRONE OF TERRA! THRONE OF TERRA!
At first I was like Guardsman? You mean Imperial Army right but for the Imperial propaganda it fits. There was never a Imperial army it has always been the guard *wink*
“COOOMEE OOON THEENNN!!!”
Olly P circa M31
If the Big E and Malcador the Hero were a two-man team, this guy would be the sixth man.
The fact that there are like bazillion different contradicting versions of Ol P makes it even better. At this point he has a whole Legion of personalities and backstories. The first one i stumbled my way into was the perpetual-catholic one and I have to admit, its my favorite. It might not be the best or the most based, but it is the one I choose and hey, guess thats the whole point of it
Absolutely - it's a great way to keep the mythology while delving into different interpretations of the legend. We might see a few others before the series is finished. :)
Thanks to your post I have a new head canon: when pious was killed by Horus his soul his very being shattered. How ever that shattering allowed another eternal something to take his: the legion of the damned
The art at the end is epic
Ollanius: Not to men like you
Horus: there are no men like me
Ollanius: There are always men like you
I love stories like this where in this massive Galaxy of cosmic horrors and demonic machinations, every once in a while the most notable and courageous people are just average Joe's than absolutely refuse to stand down, Ollanius Pius, The Harbinger, is one of my favorites
If he wasn't so thoroughly devoted to the Emperor that level of bravery would likely earn him some degree of favor from Khorne
Throne of Terror!
Not even close Ollie's died stepping between Horus and the emperor to buy him ONE more moment.
Least religious guardsmen
The very end of the siege novels, they do all the old stories of Oll justice. Agathe is seen telling stories about him to soldiers after the war, and her explanaition for the value of a good story explains why there were so many "tell tale" stories about Oll Persson. He stood up to Angron, he stood up to Horus before he even had a name, other rediculous stories that actually turned out to be true if not just a bit fabricated for entertaining the troops.
When you give a cannon fodder main character plot armor
Read siege of terra novels. Dude went through a lot before that
I remember this in the book it was the greatest end to "horus heresy: siege of Terra the first wall" he acknowledged angron too "oh throne that's the lord of the eaters...well c'mon then tell me what all the fuss is about I aint afraid of ya come on ya big bastard"
And there stands a Man. Even the Primarchs are so malleable. That guy never wavered and did his duty. If ever he survived, hope he did, he would make a fine General. Not throwing lives away even; just oaths fulfilled. The Perfect Soldier, and a Finer Man.
Angron: what the fuck, you said to go all out, he could take it!
Khorne: I thought he could!
Angron: the fuck made you think that?!
Khorne: he squared up, to YOU!
Angron: Shit that’s a good point.
If Perturabo had stayed loyal, Chaos would have gotten clapped.

UPLAND
HOOOOOOOOOOOOO
This is heresy, pious pierced the armor of Horus with Sanguinius.
Ollanius Pius died so Caiphus Cane, Sly Marbo, and the rest of the Imperium would live on
Cadia broke before the guard did.
The bravest Guardsman was also the Emperor's best and oldest friend, who died defending the Emperor with a lasrifle against Ascended Horus.
K but that art piece fucking slaps
I thought it was gonna be the guardsmen that supposedly threw himself in betwinn the Emperor and Horus during there battle. Maybe that is just a legend within a guardsmen regiment but i remember someone bringing up that scenario in a 40k video a long time ago.
Olis' are badass!
So what would he have chucked at then?
I liked it so much better when he was just a regular dude.
A single man halting the biggest threat in the galaxy for a few precious seconds. Something inspiring about that.
Brave guardsman: shoots demon with a fleshlight
Coward guardsman: runs away, gets his name cursed by his comrades who fall one by one. Returns back 5 minutes later with a sacred psychopower sword that can do actual damage to the demon. Still fails because the sword isn't charged and the guardsman is not a psycker.
Conclusions: no matter how brave you are, in case GW didn't give you plot armor, you're screwed.

A true soldier of God
~
On March 26th 2022,
just past midnight,
I was restless in bed,
my limbs became numb & tingly,
my chest became tight,
& my heart felt like it was being crushed.
So I sang out to God and Jesus,
about my pain, my feelings,
my faults and my inabilities.
As I sang, I began to feel like a river,
& a hand was on my back,
it's fingers where skimming the surface of the waters,
separating the waters,
causing ripples through my body.
Then the hand reached inside my chest,
lit my heart on fire,
& the heat moved like waves through my body.
When I was done singing,
all the pain was gone,
& I looked at the clock,
it was past 1am,
I had sang near an hour.
Then the voice of my guardian angel called my name from above,
& there was a hymn of energy in the air,
the same hymn I hear in my dreams of God.
Glory, Honor, blessings, thanks and praise to the Lord my God,
for healing my heart during a heart attack!
Hallelujah to the Lord my God for healing my heart!
Hallelujah for His son Jesus for saving my soul!
Hallelujah for every day!
Hallelujah for every breath!
The Lord is Faithful and true!
May the Lord Bless your hearts,
so that you have the will and strength to turn from selfish sins,
and flee from the slaveries of the flesh!
Pretty sure this is a retelling of Ollanious Pious/Oll Persson protecting the Emperor from Horus.
Then out spake brave Horatius,
The Captain of the Gate:
"To every man upon this earth
Death cometh soon or late.
And how can man die better
Than facing fearful odds,
For the ashes of his fathers,
And the temples of his Gods."
Haul down the bridge, Sir Consul,
With all the speed ye may;
I, with two more to help me,
Will hold the foe in play.
In yon strait path a thousand
May well be stopped by three.
Now who will stand on either hand,
And keep the bridge with me?
Damn Territum? Like the place from darktide, I see why we are fighting over such a shit hole now
“THRONE OF TERRRAAAAAAAAAAAA”
Only in death does duty end
Angron would of been proud of him
Absolutely horrible retcon. Much better when he stood against Horus and gave the Emperor the time he needed to recover and destroy Horus.
I do remember they're not guardsman
Yet , they were called Imperial Army the Guardsmen and the Navy aren't a separate entity during the Heresy
...or maybe he was mentally sick and was unable to feel fear no matter what?
