In this Broadcast Award-winning, BAFTA and Emmy Award-nominated entertainment show, Taskmaster tyrant Greg Davies (Man Down, Cuckoo), with the help of his loyal assistant Alex Horne (The Horne Section and the show’s creator), sets out to test the wiles, wit and wisdom of five hyper-competitive comedians.
Comedians that have risked life, limb, and dignity in the hope of making the Taskmaster proud so far include: Frank Skinner (The Frank Skinner Show), Mel Giedroyc (The Great British Bake Off), Romesh Ranganathan (Asian Provocateur), Hugh Dennis (Outnumbered), Sally Phillips (Bridget Jones’ Diary), Rose Matafeo (Edinburgh Comedy Award Winner 2018), and Russell Howard (The Russell Howard Hour). Unaware of what awaits them in each wax-sealed envelope, only one competitor can become the victorious owner of His Royal Task-ness’ golden head and be crowned the next Taskmaster Champion. - Komedie
What am I doing with my life, I'm sitting here watching someone slowly rotating a bust of Greg Davis while hiding behind a mini throne 😂
They way they cut that in later, I can't understand why they didn't do it earlier instead of making everyone wait 🙂
They just blended in the center bit over the live vid. There could have been piles of burning tires on either side, and it wouldn't have mattered.
@@R.Daneel Because they can't move the camera. As soon as the camera operator does that (or changes zoom, focus or lighting), it's almost impossible to get the exact perspective back and you could not blend the images together without being noticeable.
@@R.Daneel they weren’t waiting - they were watching the VT of the task. You can hear it in the background. This way, you don’t have to make the camera ops etc. wait behind to pick up the shot
Props to the studio audience tbf but I'm glad they stuck it on the web had me howling
That was the loveliest, oddest thing I had ever seen
“i’ve never had the anecdote police in before” lee you literally do a whole show where that happens
@sᴀᴠɪᴏᴜʀ ᴍᴀᴄʜɪɴᴇ The Anecdote Inquisition, if you will...
@@peterclarke7240 nobody expects the anecdote inquisition
@sᴀᴠɪᴏᴜʀ ᴍᴀᴄʜɪɴᴇ that's very very true
@@BenCrucifix Lee certainly didn't...
Anyway, back to the topic in hand: Their chief weapon is fear. Fear and surprise... their TWO main weapons... etc etc
@@BenCrucifix do you think the anecdote inquisition are allowed to talk about people they've caught, how do they file their reports?
The guy moving that head in miniscule movements just baffled me
Boringly pointless, frankly
It was stop frame animation bit i thought they would play back a,spinning head video and use it to freak out greg
think it was a cute homage to old-timey horror movie effects - the head was spinning around in stop motion - but i never saw it in the actual episode :(((
@@a.carneirozhu8104 I have seen it In the video but thought that the table had some electric parts and that the white plate on it was spinning the head.
Yeah, that outtake without context does seem odd.
I love that when they're watching the challenges in the studio, Alex is smiling and chuckling along like the audience at home, while Greg just looks intensely serious.
I guess that makes sense - Greg's probably seeing the tasks for the first time, and he's got to focus on the details so he can come up with meaningful and funny commentary on the spot.
@@Amaritudine exactly! everyone else is reacting but he's working.
That's just him being a teacher, evaluating you and coming up with self esteem crushing stuff.
It's great to watch Greg during that clip, just watching his mind whirr away. That clip is the birth of the whole big scary string bit that he has with Jemali.
The minute or so of Lee Mack fiddling with the phone is probably the best unscripted physical comedy I've ever seen.
I laughed until I wet my self. He is so quick with his wit that it seems almost artificial at times. Too quick to be thought of in a split second, though you do get better with practice. I have been told many times I am quick witted but really it is more like speaking without a filter. People who say " I thought of saying that after it was too late" really are just more cautious people.
I also think that Lee has a nervous twitch ( too much pressure to be funny etc. with WILTY, NGO. He blinks a lot now and he never did. I wonder if he has had it checked out. He was quite subdued in TM, I thought.
@@PetroicaRodinogaster264 he was diagnosed with ADHD in his book.
Him lookin calm was probably because of the distance between the people present there. It established some sort of distant (awkwardness) between them. Letting Greg to lead the talk and letting other comedians tell their jokes.
Listening to his podcast, him and Neil are constantly talking and laughing uncontrolably. He's much more active there. I'm guessing he was constantly laughing (and got cut) during the shoot of WILTY because he can't stop laughing in his podcast. He also said in an interview that often he could not stop laughing when they shoot NGO.
I am genuinely crying with laughter, I cannot believe how hard that made me laugh. When he was trying to sit back down and I KNEW he would knock the phone off again, but I still rolled over laughing when he did. My god 🤣🤣
real life mr bean moment
I feel as though he may be dangerously close to impinging on Tim “Last of the Summer” Vine’s copywrighted material.
“That’s what the hedgehog said”. Jesus, the speed of this man’s brain

Watch him on “Would I Lie to You?”, he’s fantastic.
@@zincfellow *sips* he’s not even married
@k c I'd have loved to see the stand-up as well! And as a side-note, I wish people weren't so hard on Lee. I found it interesting and understandable how being a contestant at the mercy of Lord Greg Davies' judgment (and the lack of a studio audience) would make him more toned down than when he's team captain on WILTY. I like observing how interaction dynamics change depending on the nature of the show, who the "boss" is, and the space in which everything takes place. Personally, it's fun to see a different side of an entertainer's personality come out when he or she is put in a different environment. I enjoyed watching Lee on Taskmaster.
@@MrShenhai good observations. the man is undoubtedly funny, he's on at least two wildly succesful tv series and has nothing to prove. his particular brand of humour works best with an audience for sure, but I still very much enjoyed him as a contestant
The person who runs this channel knows what they're doing, putting Mike Wozniak in the thumbnail...
Tick tock its Mike o'clock
@@DontKloppMeNow mike time is the right time
Sex sells?
Definitely the most entertaining and likable contestant(?) this series imho
Just starting listening to his 5-year old podcast Mr. Gameshow based on his appearance on Taskmaster. Absolutely hysterical. His sense of humor is just like mine.
To be fair to Lee, that phone has a truly stupid resting angle, but I appreciate the pure folly of him trying to put it back.
first watched it thinking thats dumb over-acting. when i saw the "correct" position, i rewound to verify then proceeded to wet myself laughing as the hilarity ensues
Every conversation with Lee Mack seems like an episode of Would I Lie To You

Lee is SUCH a professional. Once the phone comes down again, he immediately looks at the camera and moves slightly forward to that it can capture the phone itself. Then he starts faffing about wonderfully.
The phrase “faffing about wonderfully” makes me disproportionately happy
When?

thank you for pointing this out! it's the small things that really make things work visually, and Lee knows it!
"That's what the hedgehog said." Lee Mack got me with that one.

the quick wit of Lee Mack is a wonderful thing
@@JackDManheim Tbh I'm pretty sure he started that joke with that ending in mind. You can see him waiting for someone to set it up for him, he's literally waiting on the edge of his seat. And once he gets it out he relaxes right away.
@@JackDManheim This was absurdly quick.
@@Fucisko He's been in the kind of situation where the jokes clearly go off the broadcast-able many times, and had that hook lined up and ready. Once cast he had them all - they just did not know about it until the punch-line!
The first outtake feels so much like a wilty clip. I think it's in Lee's nature to question every story he hears
Always, especially with "And this is the bit you're not gonna believe" and/or "This genuinely happened..."
That anecdote of Lee's parents letting go balloons to symbolize that they'll go someday, touched something deep in me.
You should be more careful where you put your balloons
Rob: So Lee, is it a truth? Or is it a lie?

Yeah, it was a very Norman Wisdom/Frank Spencer-type moment of absolute bloody chaos; complete with superb facial expressions of quiet bewilderment from Lee, as he anxiously looked around for some sign of help from the crew…but unfortunately, it was not forthcoming, as they themselves were probably enjoying the spectacle as much as we do haha.
11:56 "I DO know about that, and I can't tell you" lmao mike
Lee is 100% right about his Evel Knievel story, both the etymology and the fact that as soon as you say it, you'll end up Googling it. As soon as he said it, I paused the video to Google it, and sure enough, he got his name because he was jailed next to a guy nicknamed "Awful" Knoefel. I mean, Knievel's first name is Robert, but everything else is correct.
YES FINALLY! Tick tock it's outtakes o'clock
Knievel's first name is actually Robert. weirdly, Knofel's first name is William, the name that Lee accidentally gave to Knievel.
Just a mix up, not really weird, it happens to everyone.
So they could have been Awful Bill and Evil Bob
Mike Wozniak and Lee Mack in the same series was such a good move.. then add the innocence of Charlotte Ritchie and that's a proper 4D chess move!
She's so adorably gullible.
7:53 Lee's telephone "bit" is so good ... constantly trying to pull the cushion instead of the seat, he could make that into a sketch..
these are why each episode should be like 4 hours each, I'd still watch
E
I can watch hours of just Lee Mack struggling to put an airplane phone in its place

@@mlck24 and the joy! Best combination for any job
I was so confused about that....why not turn it and leave it in a different position to see if he noticed. Then come back later and move it again.
That guy having fun with spinning Greg David's head.... I don't know why but that fascinated me and I want to know more.
UPDATE: It was for stop motion later used in the season. Still great to see.
The phone thing was legitimately one of the funniest things I’ve seen. It’s peak physical comedy
Did Greg know the guy was turning the head? I know it's a special effect, but it would've been a bonus to spook Greg
1:29 The irony of Mike asking, "What was the noise again?" is delightful in retrospect.
I like how as the bust is being turned, Greg kind of *just* starts looking over but doesn't fully. Something in his brain spots it.
Also, Charlotte Ritchie laughing at Lee's hedgehog joke is wonderful.
Apparently she swore a fair amount that didn't make it in the edit so she's not 100% children's presenter
@@Cruxador Swearing off-camera/in cuts? She's more children's presenter now than ever.
Michael Scott: That's what she said
Lee Mack: That's what the hedgehog said
This was one of the most fun casts yet. I think everyone brought something great to the show.
Awwh. It's only a week but I already miss them so bad.
New set of No More Jockeys on Friday though - another Alex Horne (+ friends') idea ^_^ Highly recommend :)
Mike Woz was my favorite from the series. But DAMN if Lee doesnt have some of the best one liners in the game. Natural talent.
Watching him struggle with the flight attendant phone 😂😂😂 I used to work for the airlines and those things are a nightmare!
It's a hilrious bit, but really, what the hell is that design? Why do they have it sticking out like that?
@@DanGolag haha, it doesn't! He put it in wrong in the end! It clicks back into place so it's parallel with the wall.
I wish they included the face he made when he realised he needed to use the phone
Decided to line up the rotating head piece with the actual Episode 2, it's really interesting how much they edit in the ordering of the videos for timing that doesn't come across in the actual broadcast. Just a glimpse behind the scenes to see how much this show is a really a masterclass.
I had to go back and re-watch that bit. I never even noticed it was rotating in the episode! Weird, because I am normally very observant...
Where/when do they show the rotation? Was it only on a promo or on the actual episode?
@@BeccaB529 It was in the episode. I believe it was when they were introducing the haunted task.

Might have had something to do with clingfilm binding.
I love how fucking genuine greg can be in the face of the possibility of shame. He takes the word ridicule out of ridiculous.

Outtakes compilations from series 1-10 would be fantastic

Lee Mack and the jump seat telephone will forever be the funniest bit of physical comedy on this show.
"I know this won't make it on the show."
🤣Nah mate, we'll put it on CZcams for the world to see. They did him dirty here........bit like what he did to the bath.
Greg: "right none of this is going to make it in"
Lee: "that's what the hedgehog said"
gotta appreciate Lee's quip remark there lol
edit: somehow put "it it" instead of "it in"
Wonder how must it feel like being Lee.
Your reflex reaction wit makes proper comedian laugh for minutes.
"......Eventually, we all die."
"No, did they really?"
The look on her face. I corpsed.
Lee Mack being quick witted on TV shows: laughter, appreciation and applause. Me being quick witted in work meetings: cold, dead stare from boss.
I'd love to see more banter like this during the episodes.
The speed of Lee's brain is incredible. "none of this is gonna make it in" and Lee, without missing a beat, goes: "that's what the hedgehog said"
Like the first joke about knowing what 1 hedgehog sounded like was not like to up Lee's standards, which I believe was on purpose. Lee set it up, because he knew Greg was going to say "none of this is gonna make it in" after all the swearing! Mastermind
the last hedgehog joke might be one the genuinely funniest things I have ever seen, always kills me
Such a phenomenal cast this season. I know they did a Champion of Champions, but I'd like Mike or Lee on an All Stars of some sort.
Can we get Mike's hedgehog as a stuffed animal, please?
Wow.
Thought the Evil Knievel story was something he made up for laughs, but it's actually true.
And now we get to share the story as Lee foretold.
This kind of make-up story would be right in his wheelhouse, so I hope we can be forgiven for thinking that initially.

According to Entertainment Tonight, Lee's story about Evel Knievel is true. It occurred in Butte, Montana, his hometown.
It ain't
Ah yes Entertainment Tonight, the bastion of investigative journalism...
@@ruqayyahqadri8180 It was told by the man himself as well as his agent, so I'm not sure what additional proof you might be able to get for it.
@@stargate525 "Blair offered to provide the needed motorcycles, but he wanted the name changed from the Bobby Knievel and His Motorcycle Daredevils Thrill Show to Evil Knievel and His Motorcycle Daredevils"
I'm so excited, I've found the proof of this story with some sleuthing!
I first tracked down the source of the Bob Blair/Bobby Knievel story - it was quoted from Knievel's biography, which came out the year after his death. Life of Evel: Evel Knievel by Stuart Barker. The story on his own website (which I won't link because it might block my comment - it's pretty easy to guess the URL, it's just his name...) contradicts that, it's the William Knofel story.
I thought I should see if William Knofel even existed, and obituaries are public, so I checked them - nothing in the right timeframe. There was a William R Knoefel who died in 1980, but that was in Arkansas. Several people named William Knafel, none of them in Montana. There were a pair of Knofels who died in 1985 in Montana though - Clarence Knofel and Hannah Knofel.
I Googled Clarence Knofel and BAM - a newspaper clipping from the Montana Standard, 29 October 1949:
"A man giving the name of Clarence Knofel of Butte was arraigned in justice court Thursday on a charge of third degree assault."
THAT'S THE GUY! 7 years before Evel Knievel got his name, but it's the right city and surname, and given the police knew him he had to be a repeat offender. It still could have been a coincidence, but the nail in the coffin is a second Montana Standard article, which also explains the name discrepancy. From 21 June 1960:
"Clarence William Knofel, an individual widely-known to police and sheriff's officers here through a long chain of circumstances, was back in the county jail Monday."
It's gotta be him. If any of you want to see those clippings, Google "Clarence Knofel" - searching William instead brings up articles written about Evel Knievel, but the only things that use Clarence are the clippings and obituaries.
I just noticed now, but Mike has a wool tie on. Such a strange man :D
Shoulda saved the shitting story for WILTY.
