I like the little guy working with his dad, great memories made
Your kiddos are on point. That older one will be building motors in a couple of years.
Don't spend the money on the bling until you have the engine and transmission in the truck. Save the budget for the unexpected issues that inevitably arise. When everything is installed and up and running then you can spend money on the upgrades. This engine for your needs is far superior to the LS. It's all cast iron, with 4 bolt mains, it is carbureted which means no computers or engine management systems to deal with. Keep this project simple and keep it inexpensive.
Good comment, I went LS swap because I blew up a 383 that was a 500hp engine. The LS swap cost me 5K not including transmission, about 1K of that was misc things like bolts and other unexpected things. It cost me as much as it would have to build another 383 and I made the 700r4 work for a while. I don't regret my swap and in my application I couldn't use any stock small block chevy parts, I needed a rotating assembly that would stand up to abuse, roller cam swap ect so the cost was a wash with the LS being a lot more driveable at that power level. With that being said anything over 300hp in these old trucks is a lot, you need better brakes, suspension and tires just to make 500hp safe in a 60s truck.
Excellent reply !!!!! K.I.S.S.(keep it simple stupid) is the saying.....lol!
Keep that baby retro!!! As far as I would go with that as modern is fuel injection and probably headers as you mentioned. Put all of your money into tearing that motor down and replacing all of the parts and gaskets that could fail in the future. Would be a great learning experience for you.
The other thing I would do is suspension upgrades.
The best of luck and you will have a great dependable truck.
This guy knows what he's talking about! Keep that motor!!!
You might want to keep those exhaust manifolds they are very rare Rams Head exhaust manifolds they are high performance remember 4 bolt main 300 hp way more power than that truck needs.
Had that Engine in my 73 Camaro, which I transplanted from a 69, and nobody could beat me at all, and now, you can have fuel injection, and all the other things you are adding, you will love it, without dropping another dime into it, You Have a Treasure Engine there!!!!
Love the videoes. I did this same exact swap 35 years ago to a 1966 c10. Jus clean up motor, new gaskets, double roller chain. I put in a 350hp 327 camshaft. Paint the engine up and you be good to go, AND it will still have stock look. Good luck, looking forward to the progress.
use to watch your channel back in the day but the old school brought me back. much better than constant mustang videos , gen 1 or nothing , long live Elanor .
Brother I have so much respect for you for doing stuff with ur kids and raising them right.
Be thankful for the engine you got I mean it's a 4bolt etc.a bloody good engine and nothing wrong with the ram horns cause they work and will save you money
It will push that truck along nicely for few years yet.
We got to teach them early! Great video brother.
Dude show me a man that has never made a mistake and i'll show you a man that has never tried to do anything, go for it , that is how you learn. Its more fun building them than it is driving them.
Hey again! Can’t wait to see the finished build, cannot wait, headers, cam, intake and let r rip✌️
Good to see you spending time with your family!
Sweet! Your engine was born on the same day I was! Can't wait to see this build come together!
Kevin Burgess that’s pretty cool. Is it’s the same year also?
What a nice project you got, great video and the argu about engines with your wife priceless...keep it up brother.
Even though it only has 81k miles I would do a timing chain set and a oil pump since you are putting it on a stand that way better safe than sorry and go ahead and do the rear main seal and front crankshaft seal when you do the timing chain it comes in the timing cover gasket kit anyways. and I would wait till after you clean the upper side off with kerosene that way all .the sludge does not stay in the oil pan its coming off anyways to do the oil pump clean the oil pan out then. Oh yea love the mustangs but I'm also classic Chevy fan My first ride was a1966 Chevy C-10 longbed fleetside 327 auto.p/s p/drum brake,my second vehicle was my1977 Mustangll 302 auto.
Awe
Hey JD. First off, 14:49 - That is the best... when Laura smiles, 100,000+ smile with her.👍😄 You two have some great chemistry. Glad you went back and got that engine and transmission. I believe that was a good deal for that setup. Chad sounds like a really knowledgeable guy and a good one to have on your side. I'm looking forward to this swap, man. Obviously, you're motivated to get it done, so I'm sure you'll be fine. Logan already has experience, so he can walk you through the process if you get into a jam.😉 Great video as always, JD. I didn't want you to wrap this one up. Y'all have a great night.✌
TheMick26 I’m counting on little man to help me. I don’t think I can do it without him.
@@JD_JoyrideTV Hey JD I am now in the Terminator family. I just bought a 04 torch red cobra. With only 2900.Yes 29hundred original miles.I am taking delivery I about a week. I have been looking for a while. I really wanted comp orange but the Torch red matches my 07 427 super snake and my 08 gt500.Iam so excited.
@@JD_JoyrideTV Also the car only has different mufflers the rest completely stock.I am only lowering it and taking off the cats. The car is staying stock.I really wonder how many are left in this condition. I am sure not many.
he's smart he said bring the tire with it so it don't scratch it👍
Good luck getting that engine in..... Your going to need it !
Good buy love the truck I remember driving 66 3 on the tree. Great idea on the budget build for this truck it can turn out great for the cheap.
Make sure you get truck motor mounts, and find a 700r4 transmission, nice 4 speed. Look for a genie shifter, looks like an old school stick shifter . Just push the pin out on the 3 on the tree leave the original steering column
700r4 are junk been through way to many of them even with mods stock engines are 2 much for them
glad to watch another C10 build besides mine and teach them young and that's cool you let your son help.
Your a lucky Father an Husband, good to see you keep your family involved 👍 congrats on the v8 👍
I really like your videos, JD. It’s cool how you bring your family into them. You have a beautiful family. Best of luck and keep up the great work 👍
Congrats brother!!!! 359 4 bolt main cant go wrong with that . You will be fine hooking that up
This is going to be fun to watch!
Heck yess can't wait man for more .
That’s a sweet bench he has I have a ton of plates might have to do it
Great choice..you’ll be happy with that motor nice cam long tube and flow masters. Love to see the expressions on your wife’s face. 😏
Way to go glad you got that motor
That truck reminds me of my 1960 chevy short box step side I have cant wait to get the 350 running I put in it
Going to be great with the new engine.
I Definitely know that feeling I love getting a new toy for my hoard The hoard is slowly growing
Excited to see the wooden bed! Doesn’t get better!!
Are you keeping it old school?
If so, use a "3/4 Race cam," aluminum Torker intake, fender well headers, wide steel wheels on the back, narrow steel wheels on the front, use GM center caps on wheels, use either side pipes or 3" or 4" stacks out of the front of the bed with rain caps on them (those rain caps will play a tune with the 3/4 Race Cam in the engine), fuzzy dice hung off the rearview mirror, and more I cannot remember right now.
I just picked up a 6.0 ls for my f100 lol if I ever can afford to do everything to truck might have to line up next to c10
your wife is not very happy right now with the money spend but wait until this c10 will be beastin' on the roads. That will be great memories man for you and your family.
I said before and I'll say it again...
I love this build.
I'll say this again... Bookface market
Definitely made the right decision can’t wait till we all see it in that truck and I would keep it in there
Hi Guys.Keep the new engine and truck as simple as possible. That way it will be easy to fix if necessary.Your partner sounds like my wife. She talks sense and is intelligent. We have been happily married for 36 years and built several hot rods.My current hot rod is a '40 Ford Std coupe and her current pickup is a '57 Chevy stepside big window.Keep your partner interested.Keep your 1st engine swap simple and learn from that.I will be eagerly watching for progress.Good luck.
Looks great , That 350 should tote the mail in that C10 body.
I do not care what anyone says that's what you call real friend that helps you work on a motor that he bought and then you pay them back that's a real friend
Timmy Creason yup for sure.
Love your videos man you are genuinely an awesome youtuber one day you’ll be the biggest one out there never change who you are bro!! Can’t wait to see the c10 in bags!!!
Right on... well said.👌
Another great video JD looking forward to the next video 🙏
Polish and ported heads , a cam some long tube headers but shorty work to a little maintace and paint the block 🤗
awesome build!
Glad to see the 6.0 out and about....
Get her to help you every step of the way so you both learn together. It would probably be a fun experience.
You have given me so much inspiration ❤️ I drive a v6 mustang 04 but you make me wanna build it and block out what people say about it being a 6
Its a v6 dont waste your money trust me its not worth it. If anything coyote swap it.
MIKE J I don’t have that type of money, if I like it and want to build it then that’s all that should matter
Love the video's, such a cute family!
You are so lucky to have such a beautiful wife and that she is on board with you and your truck build
He just needs to listen to her more... Everything she says she likes about the truck, he goes against her. Keep the stock engine. Don't bag it. LS swap???? No!
@@indianadave8881 your dead right listen to your wife mate dont run till you can walk !
Such a nice proyect, greetings from Panama
Love new build
Don't forget that's a leaded gas engine most likely you're going to have to change the valve seats and you're also going to have to run a high zinc oil in it! You're also going to have to run unleaded additive in the gasoline if you don't rebuild the heads!
Be impossible to forget about that GT , Love the truck too !!
Good luck to it's going to be fun :)
JD was up , Nice video , Logan is a certified ASE mechanic now LOL , Can't wait untill u get the C10 done 👍
Awwww Lauren kissed the whole CZcams video viewers whoooop whoooop! Lol
I like the c10 videos because there's more Laura, #TeamLaura
I’ve changed out many great $150 engines from the tree in the backyard.
fantastic video!!!!!! :)
I believe the correct color for a '63 V8 truck engine was gray. The first time you put your foot in it the 3 speed will become small pieces. It was designed for a 185 hp. 283 max. If you really want to break things and stay on the cheap get an L-79 cam, intake manifold and a 2818 Holly. You'll need to do a bit of homework about these 350hp. 327 mini monsters.
JD Keep up the good work i love your videos
Do a compression test on that 350. Those exhaust manifolds are just as good as headers.
Old school mechanic I like it
Nice one bro keep up the good work bro 🔥👌
Wow man 350 4 bolt main 300 hp wow that is nice. This truck is going to burn rubber for a city block.
Put a garage door in the back too!! You will love it
I would have hung onto those fenders.
Kodiak660 yeah I thought about it after I already sold them.
Congrats good deal on motor
It's good to see the truck coming a V8
Good job brother
HEI Dist is a 1 wire install so good choice. You can also get a 1 wire alt off a late 80's GM car or truck. Im worried 300 hp ( new ) will snap that trans and / or rear end on the first drive. On the bright side, that clutch will slip A LOT so that will help? You were worried about using the auto trans because youll have to change everything, however, the trans will not sit in the same place with a small block, so your going to have to re do everything anyways, including the trans cross member and trans mount and drive shaft
Lol so wifey thinks we're going to have some comical entertainment with this motor swap, I agree with the one fella , because with leaving the 3 spd in your gonna need flywheel bell housing and a good clutch, along with 350 frame mounts, just to start
I'm planning on going to ocean city Maryland in may it's the 14 to the 17.
I would just clean the outside and get it in the truck running and driving first then put the upgrade valve covers and headers save the budget on for the necessities until you know it’s good engine for the trucks and your driving style
Good choice on a 4 bolt main buy a complete engine rebuild kit from jegs crank pistons then buy a good set of aluminum heads for it and a decent cam you will love it. Build it right the first time make it a brand new engine.
She says Christmas is coming...spend money after that lololol
For the time being you might want to keep the old stock ram horn manifolds they flow almost as good as short headers and seal a whole lot better
I want to do a cool classic build one day when I get room to store it somewhere.
Canadian Cruisin I don’t have the garage space.
@@JD_JoyrideTV I'm living the townhouse life right now so not even a yard to put anything lol. One day though :)
Need a new cam too! lol
Instead of the ls, I would love to see some boost on that motor. That's just what I would do
Definitely team #Laura 👍
Definitely needs a cam shaft, aluminum intake, Holly carb and headers.
Put a big cam in it
You got this ,its not that complicated just nuts n bolts
Awesome I also have a mustang. Sn95 97 gt.
You have to be at stop to go to first with a three on the tree shift. I have a 1975 Dodge sports men van with a three on the tree. And a 225 slant 6.
Great motor,, if you are going to put a cam in it go with the factory hydrolic L-79 327-350 Hp.
I say put a different cam in and different intake and yes headers and just to play it safe change the rear seal it might not be leaking now but it's easier to change it now then later
hey JD a top end kit be real nice for that motor ur dropping in the c10 heads cam intake and carb they up the hp
That chad guy knows his stuff
Vortex heads you won't regret, smiles per hr.!
Vortec dang Google talk
When is the event in ocean city? I live in south jersey and love to bring my 84 square body
My god dude your a lucky man she works with you and she's gorgeous...every mans dream
I still agree with your wife keep the 6 in the truck it be a lot easier for you
If ya need a parts washer I have one you can have if your willing to travel to lancaster pa. Pretty sure I have 10 gallons of parts washer fluid too. Thought I would use it but haven't used it since my last build 8years ago.
Could drop off the mustang for a full detail and pick up the parts washer! :)
Where did you get the wood bed from
My 69 F100 still has 3 on tree ,people look at like a calf looking at a new gate.
Did you ever get the casting number off the side of the block for me?
It's the numbers with the large letter GM right underneath them.
Please let me know what they are so I can verify the block. If it's what I'm looking for I'd like to get the complete engine from you.
Next time you come up bring me a shirt I like mine a little big 5x!!! I was down your way today tried Splunkers it was amazing! Love your videos JD keep up the great work!
James M. Spelunkers is so good.
@@JD_JoyrideTV I agree that was the first time I was there but definitely will stop again when I get down to Shenandoah National Park! Chad is a good guy I've known him since we were kids, grew up in the same neighborhood!
