As someone who experienced Nirvana Unplugged, was there for the grunge movement as it happened.... this is just... just... holy fuck. David Bowie, Layne Staley, and Kurt Cobain are all sitting behind you slow clapping man. Be proud of yourself man.
It's really good, but sounds more like Staind to me. There's only so much someone can do with their natural voice. Too many of these reactions seem to have forgotten what both Staley and Cantrell actually sounded like. Simply using their style doesn't mean you sound "just like" them.
@@Neonmirrorblack I agree completely man, just thought the effort and sound were there is all. However, if you wanna hear someone that sounds "just like" Layne -- check out Brendan Maier. Dude is unreal.
@@jhuntleymtb Haha. I was actually saying the same thing in another reply to someone. Both with his previous bands Skorn and Chout. The song "Seasons" by Chout in particular really showcases this. Anyway, if you haven't seen the neat AIC competition video between Mac and three others, you should check out the "Who can make the best Alice in Chains song in 24 hours?" video over on Ten Second Songs. Steve Welsh is an absolute monster, and he does tons of amazing impressions. He has full versions of his songs on his own channel too.
@@Neonmirrorblack Hell yeah, that whole "Dogwater" album of theirs is filled with similarities. Think they split, but man...great music. I'll definitely check out that vid though for sure.
It's driving me insane that the best version of this song I've ever heard is a Mac Glocky version of if Alice in Chains had covered a Nirvana cover of David Bowie. I love the original so much, but somehow, being passed through all these talented hands made it go from great to incredible.
Because being in a band comes with a whole host of complications and is a part of a completely different process that can be incredibly difficult to manage! I think even some of the most successful YT musicians have struggled to make a living for themselves as a part of a band; for example, if Stevie T. was ever in a touring band, I have no idea what band that is! Mac Glocky has a particular skill set that is very accustomed to producing this content, and I'm sure that having complete control over the process, and being able to engage in this hobby without having to depend on anyone else, while weaving it intp his normal schedule makes this content particularly conducive to his lifestyle.
This brings uncontrollable tears to my eyes every time I listen to this. It's like you invited Layne Staley to take momentary control for one more song from the ether. Being 18 in the mid 90's, this invokes so much joy and sorrow it makes this so bittersweet.
I really like the alternating between the apathetic vocals of the verse and the impassioned, strained chorus. It fits the lyrics so well in a way that I found both Bowie and Cobain kind of brushed over (though I liked both of their renditions).
I keep coming back to this again and again. It's as though Layne came back from the dead for three minutes and twenty two seconds. Please do more AIC arrangements.
Knowing that both Layne Staley and Kurt Cobain died the same day eight years apart makes me sad that neither of them can hear how masterfully done this is. May the both RIP and a hell of a good performance that both of them would be proud of.
How is this guy doing this? Every time man sounds like some legendary singers but like 5 at the same time... how ? Dont even get me started on the production perfectly imitating the little details of every band... bro you worth a billion dollars
You're incredibly talented lad! I was born in 1982, and I watched the best bits of 90s when MTV was a thing. Your music is a balm for my ears and I watched every single video of yours. Recently I went camping and met a bunch of British kids. Turned out they listen to a lot of 90s music including Deftones, and your Rick Astley cover was a total banger of that night Please don't give up, you're doing totally amazing job, and IMO it's totally underrated. Too bad you're getting like 1000x less likes than you deserve! ✊👊🤜
Just came across this channel and have been enjoying some incredible covers. This one made me realize I’ve not listened to Alice In Chains for far too long.
You are insane, man. Found you thanks to reddit today and have spent the last 3 hours on your channel. This one is my favorite for reasons, but just fucking bravo, man. Really dig your originals as well am am now following on Spotify. ❤🔥
i normally hate anyone who does things like this but this is so original and beautiful. You are truly a wonderful musician and anyone who gets to write with you must have a real pleasure.
Dude you're a beast. Very impressive skills and thanks for the reminiscence. I love how the "most replayed" indicator shows everyone just put it right back to the start!
You really breathe life into all your covers with the modifications to melody and progressions. It’s familiar and yet new. It’s really novel and creative. I’m binging all your videos. They are incredible. I’ve never heard covers like this! We have a cover thing here in Australia on national radio called Like a Verson where famous Australian artists do covers and every single one of yours wipes the floor with the anemic crap the famous folk spit out. I’m a huge fan!
Damn dude, you nailed it! You really got Lane's vocal style down too, others out there can do it pretty well too but you somehow managed to replicate the pain and loss that could be so easily heard in his voice for those with the ears to hear it. You got a new sub!
My dude I found your channel today and have listened to about of dozen of your vid so far. These songs are all from my formative years and I'm digging everything you are doing. You captured Lane really well in this one, not an easy thing to do. My hat is off, you have a fan in me for sure my dude.
I did a cover of the David Bowie orig with the Nirvana cover on top of that as influence for a tribute show for Bowie and you just swung my ass out of the park. I'm so jealous of your vocal abilities
Fuck that was so good. It also made me realize that the singers of the 4 bands that were my favorites back in the 90s (Alice in chains, sound garden, stone temple pilots and nirvana) are all gone now.
This and SOAD rock lobster have made me an instant fan!! Keep doing what you're doing!!! This is amazing. I want to hear Marilyn masons cover "no more Mister nice guy" ...I always hoped he would cover that song, it could be perfect for MM style cover.
Omg. You need to release your cover album everywhere. That's amazing! Awesome! You're like one of that neural networks, but for the music :) Talent, skill and etc... 😊
New subscriber here, been listening to a few of your videos on my phone. But this one....this one deserved my good headphones. I stopped, headphones in, started the video over, and it was like slipping into a nice deep bath ❤👌
Thank you so much for pointing out that Nirvana covered this song. When I saw the title, I was really expecting you to not know that, but you proved me wrong! Just found your channel, but been watching a lot of your videos since I did. I do have a challenge for you. Dealers choice of song, but I challenge you to physically play all the parts, shown in a split screen on the video. No drum machine, just play a drum kit, no pre-recorded tracks, just you playing. I won’t judge if you’re not a great drummer or pick an easy song to suit your level of skill on instruments you don’t normally play. Just give it a shot!
I have chicken skin after listening to this. My god it has almost every thing....soooo very good! If there eas a redo,a little less man in the box, a little more down in a hole or grind.....let the lead soar (love hate love style) and let there be a bit where the secondary vocals take solo (Jerry's part in down in a hole) or have the two switch where one starts, the second joins and they do two sections together, then the first drops out and leaves the second to finish (verses from grind) On its own this was amazing as well. I'll admit it, i subbed
I really never enjoy people mimicking Layne Staley vocals.. this is no exception, but you're very talented and the Cantrell-esque guitar work is money.
after listening to this copious amounts of times, i have decided ima said it: this is my fav version now. its the harmonic vox for me, i miss that extra layer now if i listen to unplugged :')
The nirvana cover of The man who sold the world has been one of my favorite songs. This is really good. I really love the change up on how the guitar is played with the same overall sound. The chorus went hard too
As someone who experienced Nirvana Unplugged, was there for the grunge movement as it happened.... this is just... just... holy fuck. David Bowie, Layne Staley, and Kurt Cobain are all sitting behind you slow clapping man. Be proud of yourself man.
This
Abso-fuckin-lutely. Thank you!
yes
I'll drink to that! cheers 🍻
All of this. Took me back 30 years, to my teen years, and just completely on point. Dude, this was magic.
As soon as I heard the harmonized vocals, I was like "yep, that's Alice in Chains."
I agree with ya ❤
totally
understood the assignment!
I can envision this song appearing as a bonus track on "Jar of Flies," that's how on point this is dude!

I can second that ❤
A fantasy cover, of a cover. We can go deeper. Now let's get a Deftones cover of this cover-cover.
😂
But if we truly achieve Mac Inception, grunge will have never existed
Deftones all the things!
Yes-🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Deftones!!!!

Have you heard the version by Midge Ure? It’s my personal favorite, although there is no denying that this version is absolutely incredible
ABSO-FUCKIN-LUTLY
Maybe we just get other artists to continue to cover these songs but just continue adding extra layers 😂
I know it's not your most popular cover, I really think it's your most impressive stylistically.
Definitely one of his most ambitious. Alice in Chains is a bitch to emulate.
And that's saying A LOT because they're all good and difficult
Cool, I respect your opinion.
This should be his most popular cover.
Oh wow. This is like it came off Unlugged. This is stellar. I might like this better than the original.
I love bowie but I enjoy the nirvana cover more so i get it.
The Nirvana unplugged version is better than the original!
Carry on...
Much better than the original 💥🔥
@@U4rixOfficial Not even a contest.
How are you not a part of a platinum selling band at this point? You have a gift here, holy crap.

It’s not always about talent unfortunately. The people with real talent always end up behind the scenes. The major times only want an act.
Doesn’t want to be a part of corporate where his money will go to some asshole
Dude this is INCREDIBLE. My mind is blown.
3 departed artists channeled very well

Vocal riff at 2:10 is just so what Layne would have done. I echo the other comments in my disbelief at how good this is!
I couldn't agree more!!!
As soon as you started singing, the instant that Lane Staley sound came out of your mouth, my jaw dropped. That's one hell of an impression man.
I really like the alternating between the apathetic vocals of the verse and the impassioned, strained chorus. It fits the lyrics so well in a way that I found both Bowie and Cobain kind of brushed over (though I liked both of their renditions).
I swear this dude just channeled Layne Staley.... that was insane. Loved😊
Needs an album with like 20 layne covers( mac glocky style!).
I mean he didn't sound just like Layne(which noone really could), but I mean the style was there so the assignment was still well executed.
I keep coming back to this again and again. It's as though Layne came back from the dead for three minutes and twenty two seconds. Please do more AIC arrangements.

Well done, Sir. One layer of Layne vocals+ a side of Jerry style vocals = superb mix.
the way I physically gasped when the vocals started 😳
right? jesus christ this guy is like ear crack. how are we just finding him
Fuck this is so good. Massive fan of the original, the cover and AIC. Absolutely nailed this.
closest impression of layne's voice i've heard, love ur aic style for covers

Missing that Mike Inez bass tone, super bright and prominent, but still better than anything I could do! Another great one
