- The Adventure of the Bruce-Partington Plans is a short story featuring the exploits of Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson, not to mention Mycroft Holmes and Inspector Lestrade. It appears in the volume of stories published in 1917 entitled 'His Last Bow', written by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle.
There's a murder been committed, a pea-souper swirls around London from Woolwich Arsenal to Gloucester Road tube, Mycroft is on his way to Baker Street and much else besides. Holmes considers the problem... will he ever get to finish his monograph on early music?

I am so incredibly fussy when it comes to book narrations. It's unintentional. It severely limits my options. I'm so easily distracted, irritated & frustrated by those who aren't up to scratch. Greg is one of a very small group. I can happily be aware of his talented voices & yet be fully able to concentrate without any effort on the story. Greg is a gift & a treat to my ears. 💜
Agree. Who else do you like? My ears are sensitive voices and I just can't even listen to most narrators...

These audio books ARE FABULOUS! Who needs video? What an incredible voice...
I go to sleep listening to these but my only problem is that it takes me about a week to complete one story due to falling asleep so quickly.

It's the best for falling asleep. Just been listening during breakfast to catch up on the part I always miss
I enjoy all of these readings but, imo, The Bruce Partington Plans and The Priory School are best for drifting off to sleep.

I read this short story as a teenager back in Pakistan. A wonderful case. Loved it at that time and love it now. Wonderful narration.
I see 77 Librivox readers have given the thumbs down. I cannot imagine anyone else doing it. These are a sheer delight to listen to.

I can't listen to any libravox recordings, they are always monotone.
The Librivox readings of Mark Twain novels are excellent.
It is now 5 or so years since I first became acquainted with this series, and I still listen to it every day.. Indeed, I have listened to some of these Holmes audio presentations perhaps 100 times and still find them absorbing. Although the content is quite familiar, they never cease to amuse and inform. I very often drift off to sleep with one story and awake to another. They are highly valued.
It's how I recorded them. I too drifted off to sleep while narrating them and woke narrating the next... Auto pilot? Thanks for your kind comment J7116R

One of the best narrators I've ever heard. I can't t listen to Stephen Fry narrating Sherlock Holmes or any book. I'm so glad I've discovered this guy. Excellent.
This is adequate, but Frye is livelier.

It's an amazing exhilaration for me that Sherlock and Mycroft Holmes, Watson, and Lestrade would be in the same room together. The Bruce-Partington Plans sure has a unique air about it.

I love the way the auditor does all the voices of each character!! It’s a treat to fall asleep to these recordings !! I see him sitting in a wingback chair , with steam rising from his teacup, and reading off his Kindle the stories!!

Your narration has completely spoiled me for any other who might read from Sherlock Holmes Adventures. No one else’s voice matches the characters like Greg Wagland. Mycroft was a remarkable voice but so believable. Thank you your gift means I have listened to these stories over and over again. X
The story took me immensely. Being a Pole interested in Naval matters and well up in English I decided to translate the story into Polish. Though an amateur, I managed my task quite well. Of course most interesting in the story was Mycroft Holmes with his great brain; to me it is a sort of vision of PERSONAL COMPUTER, that head of Mycroft with all its capacities. 😊👍♍

Maybe the writer was fortelling the advent of a modern invention ... "Microsoft" ?

I agree. Those who present Watson as a bumbling mumbling hero worshipper are completely missing Watson's very real contribution to the detection. Again and again Watson provides the context and the fine details. He asks relevant questions. Like Hastings, he is the ordinary mind that provides the steel for the flint to spark off. Holmes' attitude is so rarified that he needs Watson to ground him.
Then too, Watson is a handy man in a scrap, quick with his fists and armed with this trusty revolve. He gets between Holmes and harm. He's also very strong, able to pinion and restrain malefactors.
I have loved Sherlock Holmes for many years and know many many audiobook versions. Yours are by far my favourites, I just love your voice! Thank you for another case, I know them by heart but never get tired of listening to you!!!!

Love this particular story. It has everything! And Mycroft! "Alas, I am a COUCH POTATO GENIUS!" So Watson never says what he was doing for 3 days besides reading newspapers. Watching Holmes do his hobbies, probably. 😆
He was being the mascot, lol. That's what he does. Holmes career always took precedence over his medical practice. He was probably making small talk, trying to keep Holmes in a good mood and on an even keel. And then when Holmes is occupied, he always seems to be obsessed with reading several newspapers in their entirety everyday. You notice Holmes never reads the paper. He always asks Watson. Watson even reads articles aloud to Holmes. He can't be bothered. Watson is like when Victorian ladies used to hire companions. This way you always have a friend around guaranteed to do whatever you want, basically wait on you, and keep you entertained. Except Watson doesn't get paid. He's like Robin in Batman and Robin.

@@wmnoffaith1 IMHO in the last stage of their cooperation, when they live together again and Watson gives up his medical practice, he gets paid by Holmes. They split his money for solving the cases. Unfortunately, I don't know how I reached this conclusion, it was just my impression from some of the latest stories.
