"Being nice is a fulltime job" - my son said that to me when he was 4 years old and went to a Montessori at that time:) Thank you for the video; helpful insights

Assuming a TPM role soon, after many, many years in other roles in the industry, listening to this conversation left me pretty darn confident I'm going to have a blast. Probably (and hopefully) the best explanation to what a TPM does. Really liked the energy of you two interacting, too! It really did feel like two old friends.

This woman is sharper than a razor blade, I can tell she cuts through the Mumbo jumbo and understands the bottom line important aspects. Communication, pro activity, relationship building, supporting teams. Thanks for this.

Technical Program Managers are also known as EPMs (Enterprise Program Management)… this is a typical title at a non-tech company like healthcare for example. I work closely with EPMs as the Enterprise Architect to ensure the program aligns strategically with the enterprise direction.

Leslie did a great job explaining what TPM does. I will say it varies from company to company in technical aspect. She is on point with the duties and attributes that are most important.

Good overall video. Quick note about the PMP. You may have been able to back your way into these kinds of roles without one. However, for minorities it isn’t so easy to get folks to even SPEAK to you without it. We can list our experience on our resume and it can be stellar but we’ll still not make a slate without it, if it’s on a requisition. I’ve seen it where it isn’t required and people I’ve coached still have been told “you need a PMP so we chose this other person.” So overall I think that statement depends on the demographic/privilege of the person maybe even personality to pivot into roles internally. Anyway I needed to say this because I’ve been doing this for awhile and I don’t want folks to watch this without that context. For some true…but for others not so much. Thanks

Great talk! Thank you, super helpful. It would be awesome to see the doc Leslie wrote about responsibilities of TPM vs PM vs EM if possible :)

Leslie - great job! I have just started looking/interviewing for a TPM role since I've done some part of it or have all the right skills for it. By the way, I am a stress cooker.. I cook for all my family gatherings-graduations - never catered once!

49:03 it would be nice to just talk about work but unfortunately everyone isn’t as “nice” as you or assume “good intent” of others. Some are biased, racist, prejudice etc and feel as if their affinity complexes are ok to have at work, and none of it is ok. So unfortunately sometimes non-work related things need to be discussed.
