Turn a $6 wall mirror into a sliding beauty cabinet for $25!
Keep the mirror always visible, even when cabinet is open. Store beauty supplies within easy reach! Simple easy tutorial by Ana White.
NOTES: I ended up adding two more 1x2s to the front of the shelving part for attaching my drawer slides. The 16" drawer slides shown in the video ended up being too long so I used 14" ones and they work great (cabinet is about 15" wide).
It was a little flimsier than I expected. I had to add a 2x2 piece of wood to the bottom on the rear side in order to stabilize it better czcams.com/users/postUgkxXTh-lz-8W6GcB219vTLp27-MxbZYObBX . It is also starting to bow a little at the outer wall ( I've had it up for about 6 months), I've already had a shelf tumble down because of the bow and the fact that the little shelf brackets are quite short. I went out to home depot and got some longer ones so that the shelves don't tumble down again. Overall, it looks very nice for the price and it holds a lot ( I use it as a pantry). I am very satisfied with my purchase. I just strongly suggest reinforcing it before putting it up.
Probably the best Ryan’s czcams.com/users/postUgkxGZedDTcDfgD7fG_uU4esfx_EgxzlY2_1 Plans on building a shed is hardly ever found. And Ryan takes the mystery out of different types of foundation options, etc. He even shows how to build a shed with different designs. Very comprehensive, covering different roofing materials, siding, etc.
Cut out some drywall and mount this in between 2 studs and you have a cool little hideaway storage that would just look like a mirror on the wall. :) Add a magnetic lock for some security. Great build!
+Colby Ruffing A great idea Colby! Thanks for watching!
Gr8 idea
Exactly what I was thinking but keeping it on the slides
I just started getting into building projects and this was my first build. I'm still learning and though this build probably isn't as perfect as yours, I'm happy to say that it works and my wife loves it. Thanks for the idea!
Wonderful!
Marie Kondo & you Ana White, are two of the most lovely & inspirational women around! Thank you so much for doing all you do and encouraging everyone to pick up those tools and DIY :)
+Sienna Metatawabin Thank you Sienna for your sweet words!
this is brilliant im going to be making 2 of these for my girls bedroom 2 girls in one bedroom means not much space but these will work great thanks for the inspiration
+steve jackson Sounds great Steve, hope you can share!
This is perfect!!! I am buying a house and the master bathroom is tiny and narrow. We're going to demo and re-do it and these would be beautiful for storage and extra mirrors. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!!
+Michelle Powell Yes, this would be a perfect solution. Thanks for watching Michelle!
I have been wanting to do one of these because I’m tired of fighting over bathroom time with my tween, and was going to use the plans for the jewelry armoire with a mirror, but the sliding mirror idea is genius! Thank you!
Thanks for that excellent video and project. I liked the simplicity and the clever, effective use of dead space.
+Jeff Harmed Thanks for your feedback Jeff, it's much appreciated!
Cool idea,I’m building one of these right now for my daughters bathroom. I had planned on traditional hinges, but this makes so much better sense
You did an awesome job. I actually want to redo my closet and use Target shelves but I want to add sliding mirrors to close the space. So I'm here for research🥰
Sounds awesome!
Very clever project, Ana. I just started my own woodworking channel on CZcams. Currently I am designing and building furniture out of pine and 2x4's. Your videos have been inspiring. Thank you.
+Matt Janacone Hi Matt, that's awesome. I'll have to check it out!
AWESOME. I want this in my guest bedroom! We have a dining room farm table that my son and husband made from your plans. It turned out great!
WONDERFUL!
Game changer! I've put together some things from around the house to create a vanity, and I use baskets as drawers, but they don't hold the larger hair tools, and my stacked jewelry box inconveniently is on one of the shelves. I have a mirror already and the designated space, so I can make one of these and include things for my jewelry. Thank you! :-)
Awesome!
Thank you so much for your video, blog and material list. This is sooooo awesome! I love this! I already have a mirror, so I don't need to buy that. It's gold, so I'll probably paint it brown and stain the wood to closer match my furniture. I'm debating on makeup/beauty products or probably putting in a metal screen type of material to hang earrings and put in hooks for necklaces and a round t-bar for bracelets. I'm also running ideas in my head about making a stand for it be mounted to so it's not wall mounted. Easy to move it around and less holes in the wall. Thanks again.
Awesome, I'd love to see it!
I just make one for my wife I used your video to make it , wife was super happy to see it all done thank you for this video. ....
I need to build this for my wife, she'd love it! Great idea
+Conrad Designs Hi Conrad, I know she will!
You always come up with the best ideas! I love this.
Thanks so much, glad you like it!
I love this video - I am planning on making one of these but with hinged doors and an internal hinged "leaf" so I can have additional hanging space for my earrings, necklaces and bracelets. It will also be recessed between the studs in a wall near my closet. Wish you'd do a video on making one with strong cabinet hinges. Thanks for posting this, I got some great ideas and learned a lot from your video.
Sounds awesome!
WOW! I believe you just solved my "no space for a vanity" dilemma!
Glad I could help!
I love this project !! Have been looking for something like this for some time now!!! Was looking to buy it but now I can build it. - Thank you !!!! 😃
Wonderful!
Thank you! I'll go try this. I've been figuring out how to make sliding cabinet door with built-in mirror. Subscribed because of this :)
This is way better than the commercial ones.
Thanks for the visit, glad you like it!
Ana, another wonderfully practical, real-world project. Bravo! This will be a perfect addition to my fashionista daughter's small bedroom. (I guess finishing installing the baseboard in the family room will have to wait.) By the way, I purchased your book a few years ago (it's in tough shape because I left it out in the rain, but it has "character" now LOL) and it has been -- along with your terrific videos -- a great source of inspiration for my woodworking and furniture projects for my home. Thanks for all your efforts. Be well. -Nick
+Nick M Hi Nick, I really appreciate your kind words and support! Can't wait to see your project!
LOVE LOVE your ideas!!
Awesome! I'm sure I'll do this. Maybe a small recess on the right vertical board, just to avoid catching fingers with the sliding frame...
+mpadierna Great idea!
Really like this design. I will try it out soon!!! Thanks for the video
Glad you like it!
Great Concept and use of Sliders, wow, well done....
+Paul Bialozor Hi Paul, I appreciate your nice comment!
+Ana White No worries Ana, you are very creative. I've been doing various construction for over 30 years and I never thought to use sliders in this fashion; and truth be told I could have used this idea decades ago... I try to think out of the box when ever possible and I really enjoy the clever ways you make things happen... Who says you can't teach and old dog, namely me, a new trick or two... LOL...
Wow!!! You are amazing and are going to be of great help to me!!! Thank you so much for sharing. I am very grateful :)
So happy to help!
That is a really great Project. Once I get one done I'll send you the pictures.
+Craig Pereira Sounds great Craig!
This is the coolest idea for space saving I have seen.
+Kinshun Mui Thanks for watching!
love the simplicity, thankyou!
Glad you like it!
Awesome, nice to see you again Ana.!!! :)
+Make it Extreme Thanks for tuning in, so glad you like it!
Another wonderful project, Thanks, Ana!
+Jason Bourdon Thanks so much Jason!
I'm really loving your content and delivery with these videos. Great work.
Beautiful and original. I like. A guide can be hidden by setting on horizontal surfaces - top and bottom of the box :)
+AlfFisher Thanks so much for watching!
Ana, come to my blog: http: //alffisher.blogspot.com I added a button automatic language translation :)
Mark Fisher. Ukraine.
I'm looking at rehabbing a very small house and adding closets to already small rooms. This would be perfect for a built in jewelry cabinet on the side of a closet. One less piece of furniture!
I'm having my cabinet maker make me one with pvc white wood here in Puerto Rico which is humidity proof and termite proof!
AWESOME~
Where do you obtain that "pvc white wood" ? That term sounds like "100% real fake diamonds". "Wood" is not "humidity proof" unless you seal it.
Love this idea so much I was going to make it for my wife; however, there's no more wall space to hang this. Do you have video or plans to make this with legs so it can be put anywhere in the bedroom or bathroom? Thank you so very much for all that you do. As a very novice woodworker, you are one of the reasons that I started woodworking after my retirement. Best wishes.
Thanks for video! I will build this for my wife and 2 girls near our bathroom so i can get more space for me in the bathroom =)
Would be cool to recess in the wall between the wall studs.
+Mike Gill Super idea Mike, thanks for watching!
Very good, I want to make one just like it. Congratulations.
+Devair Jr Thanks! Be sure to share yours!
Great JOB 👏🏼 👍🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼✨✨✨✨✨
Thank you so much 😀
Love this project ❤️ You are brilliant 👍👏
How would you modify this if dropping the box in between two studs, recessed into a wall?
Great watch, really enjoyed it. Any rethinks 2 years on? Planning a work bench but can decide if this will work for me.
Thank you, this is a great and lasting project! We have a lot of workbench plans, just google "Ana White workbench".
THIS LOOKS SO AWESOME!!!
+Izzy InMiami Hi Izzy, it's pretty great! Thanks for watching!
Great idea. Pretty and smart.
Beautiful Ana I love it
+Ana Rodriguez Thank you Ana!
Great project, I will do this myself too in the future
GREAT!
wow! this is wonderful...planning to diy this....thanks for the tutorial :)
Great little project.
this is beautiful but i think i might have to adjust some of these plans because i just don't have access to these tools. im looking to make one that's half way set inside of a hollowed out door in the bathroom with the mirror on a hinge
That's a fantastic build!!
+Gevedon Thank you for watching!
Hi Ana, I love when you make projects like this one! Could you please make one like this for jewelry? Thanks❤️

Ana White thank you very much, love your channel.💕
Such a great idea with the sliding feature. Thanks Ana :-)
+Slowvannah Farms Thank you!
Love this! I'm going to build this with my fiance for her to use. She has the same hair dryer too lol
Awesome!
Awesome! How clever!! ❤️
That is so awesome! I'm excited to make one in my master bedroom closet for jewelry, skin care products, etc. Love, love, love it! Can the slides be switched around to slide right instead of left?
They sure can, thanks for watching!
great stuff Ana
+Nouser Unrecognizable Thanks!
I would love to make this, but with over the door hangers for daughters dorm room. I know this is an older video, anyone know what the weight would apx be finished?
Awesome idea!!
Thank you! 😊
@@AnaWhiteDIY I love how you use tools and machinery. There aren’t enough women in the trade so it’s really refreshing to watch you. Thank you for what you do.
Justo lo que estoy buscando. Thank you so much z
Thanks for the visit!
That’s fantastic
Great idea! Any tips on how to mount to the wall?
Through the back of the shelf into your studs in the wall.
@@AnaWhiteDIY hello, I had the same question. What do I use to attach at the back? Do you know if any videos I can reference?
Great for the UK where we build sturdy homes with brick
That is pretty awesome
+Ana White This is absolutely beautiful & so functional for so many uses! As usual great job! I'm planning to make this for my powder room but I don't think a mirror would work for the spot (in front of the toilet) where the cabinet will hang. Are they any changes or a different method that need(s) to be considered for adding a plain door or a door with say a glass or chicken wire inlay instead of the mirror? Thanks
Ana... This was a fabulous project and a great idea!!! Definitely want to build one for sure!!! I just have one quick question: How do you prevent a pocked-holed piece of wood from "sliding" when you're driving the screw into the opposing piece??? One option I do is to glue the two pieces together first; allow the glue to dry; and then drive the screws through the pocket holes. Granted, I get an even stronger joint, but it means that I have to wait for the glue to dry first. How can I pass on the waiting??? Appreciate the help...
Clamp the piece to the work surface
Can you do one on a mirror that slides up? I want one for my vanity that faces my window. I want the natural light during the day. But when I want to use it I can slide it up from behind the desk
I'm also interested in this! I'm wondering if this same approach could be use with the mirrors turned on its side? Robern makes an "Uplift Medicine Cabinet", but its $2,000 - $4,000 =(
Julyssa I am working on making own vanity inspire medicine cabinet. I love one that would slide up
Apply those silver things along the sides??
That came out amazing. Had to fast forward through a bit of it since I'm at work but will come back to watch it all the way through. 😉😉😁😁 you think this would be nice for outside up against a wall with plants? 2:14
Wow!! Great idea thanks for share it!
+Bianca Aguilar Thanks, I love it!
This is great! I'll have to make one for my wife. Thanks.
+jdrew500 So glad you approve!
This would be amazing in a tiny house.
you are awesome! thank you so much for posting this
made this for the wife, she loves it. I actually put this on the back of the bathroom door. this is position in front of the bathroom sink mirror. so she likes the fact that she now have two mirrors to do her hair. also, she like she don't have to bend down under the bathroom cabinet to get supplies.
+A. West Such a great idea, sounds like you have a lucky wife! Thanks for watching!
I'm a little confused on the drawer slides... I have the same exact mirror height and width... Your website says to use 14 inch and on the video it shows 16 inch... So which one do I use? Thanks So Much!!!
Sooooooooooo cooool and smart!👏
awesome...will make it for my wife...thanks for sharing
Excellent, she will love it!
Happy days just received my mini pocket hole jig :))) I will post on your blog my creation. Thinking somehow to build in so lights too ;) dunno yet ;)
that so cool but I can't find a video on CZcams of how to build a pull out pivoting closet mirror yet. I've seen just videos for like commercials for a website that sells it but I want to build it myself. so if you can figure out how to do it let me know. thank you
Do you think those slides could hold the weight of a full length mirror for the front of a closet
Cool project!
+Aaron Martinez Thanks for watching Aaron!
This is brilliant!
+The Random Station Thanks for tuning in!
Gonna make it now.. thanks
Yes!!! I do love it. I will make 100 for my wife to put all her stuff in them! lol, not that many, we'll see how many I can make.
+Heavyboxes HA, a room of mirrors! Fun, be sure to share!
I want to do the same but to be kept on the floor. I can't hang in my rent house. I was thinking of inclined base
🙋🏾♀️🙅🏽♀️🇸🇷 greetings and new sub here. Being in my 60thy I am going to look for the tools to build me one. ❤
Do you end up with a 1/2" gap (btwn mirror and cabinet)? Someone else asked this question. The drawer installation video for Liberty Hdwr (that you provided) dictates a 1/2" gap between the drawer and the opening (in the cabinet), on each side.
Awesome, thanks ana.
+Khalid Alkharusi Thank you!
Hi Ana great project! What kind of glue do you use to attach mirror?
What a great idea!
Thanks!
nice i like it
Hi Ana! Could you please provide the exact sizes of the wood that you used? I'd love to recreate this!
Free plan www.ana-white.com/woodworking-projects/full-length-mirror-sliding-beauty-storage-cabinet
Could you have dropped the cabinet between the studs for an efficient use of space?
im from Russia and this nice idea for my coutry) thanks )
Thank you!
How did you attach the mirror to the frame? Thanks!
ann can you please tell us how you pasted that mirror that's one part missing, its a beautiful design
Since this is on an exterior wall was the any type of insulation or special backing added?
Good idea! Thank you
+Raimis Pavardenis So glad you like it Raimis!
Love it!!!
Thanks Maria!
