If you guys don't understand Landowner tags, read the regs. Landowners are provided some compensation for all the elk they are feeding for us the public. They can use the tag themselves or gift it to a friend. They are still hunting public land, adjacent to private land, its just a guaranteed tag for the landowner and they don't have to enter a draw. Good to see the family hunting together. Hopefully, the little guy and join you next time.

That was a great hunt and a heartwarming video. Being able to share the love of the outdoors together strengthens the bonds your relationship. My wife has long been my hunting partner and I was able to be present when she took her first antelope, first deer and first elk. The memories of those occasions will never be forgotten. As time and age limit the amount of trips we can make together I still cherish every moment we are able to spend.

Congrats Kristin and beau great job. Great hunt. For all of you haters that don't under stand the Tage is the same as a public Tage. We ranchers feed alote of game animals and they cause alot of damage they don't care if private or public.
It’s just fine for land owner tags to hunt anywhere, animals eat there crops and when you get a land owner’s tag it ain’t for the farm fields that animals eat it’s the none farm land.
I know people who get these tags that is how I know what land the tags are given for.

@FRESH TRACKS please explain hunting public land with a private land owner tag, shouldn't they be hunting the private land the tag was issued for?
Some areas allow it some don’t biased on the local managing biologists. Some have both private only and unit wide, all decided by population quotas and goals.

Some weird rules in western states. It amazes me how much country out there is devoid of animals, too.
Do not agree with being able to hunt public land with a private landowner voucher.
The biologists in this area allow it for a reason
It’s only for the unit that the landowner owns the land. They get as many tags as the biologist sees fit for how many animals are on the land eating their fields. I highly doubt they get very many tags but it allows the land owners to recuperate lost money from the damage the elk do. I don’t know how I feel about it either I just hope the right people are in there running this stuff
As much as I understand your original thought it is shortsighted. You speak from a place that doesn't understand how much damage elk do to crops and fences. If you hunt you also know about elk habitats at different times of the year. Just because they cross private at one point doesn't mean they will be there when hunting season comes around.
Private land tags violate the public trust doctrine
I’m with you but where else are you seeing heard of bulls only! I mean every heard they seen had many bulls!
Why are you hunting public land, with a private land voucher? Shouldn't you be hunting the private land the voucher was issued to? Is it a unit wide voucher?
Private tags should stick to private lands, so they actually push the elk off the private and give the public land hunters a chance.... only in a perfect world right?
I got a private land tag some years ago and was wishing they had issued public land tags to push the problematic elk onto the private ONE ELK was killed first day and that was it out of 50 tags issued so I will never do that again stacks right up against depredation tags rip off so if legal go for it
Exactly. If a landowner is issued vouchers those vouchers should only be valid for a specific tract of land like a gratis license is.
They should do what the local biologists that manage the unit require and allow to manage the herd.

Just because a biologist decided one thing, doesn’t mean it’s right, but also doesn’t mean it’s wrong. That’s why you should actually make a point rather than trying to bury your head in the sand…

Don't agree with this episode. Fresh tracks to me has been about public lands for the general publc. For me personnally, this crosses your brand boundaries. I still believe what you do, but this episode probably shouldn't be been filmed
Let down. Fresh tracks is the “Bozeman” of hunting tv and meat eater is the actual personification of the deterioration of the hunting you are giving to much publicity to.
