You are not crying alone, I'm a fan of ABBA, I grew up with their music and I consider the end of this song to be one of the "best song ending in the history of music" as I call it. Don't worry about emotions...that's why we have music...
This song always makes me cry too. At first through letting out pain, then through the sheer joy the song brings by the end.

I am 65 years old, have heard this song a hundred times, and each time I react just as you did.

I am from Mexico and Spanish is my mother language. Let me explain the term "chiquitita" to you:
1. It all starts with the adjective "chico" (masculine) or "chica" (feminine), which means small. When referring to a person, it means a young boy or girl
2. In informal Latin American Spanish, we add the "ito" or "ita" ending to adjectives to minimize their meaning. So, in this case, we add "ita" to "chica" and it transforms into "chiquita", meaning an even smaller thing. When referring to a person, it means a small girl or little girl but the "ita" ending also adds the meaning of affection to it so it means a young o little girl for whom we feel affection.
3. By adding an additional "ita" to the same adjective we keep stressing the meaning of small or, in the case of a person, the meaning of a little person and even more affection. So the word "chiquita" becomes "chiquitita": a very young or little girl for whom we feel a lot of affection.
4. We could keep adding "ita" endings to keep stressing the same meaning but the word starts sounding too exaggerated: "chiquititita" or "chiquitititita" (meaning really tiny in the case of an object), but in the case of a person it is too exaggerated so it starts making no sense. So the BEST word to express love an affection for a little young girl is "chiquitita", the song name.
5. "Chiquitita" is NOT a name, like Laura or Maria or Susan. It is an ADJECTIVE.
So in this song, the singer is talking to a very young and little girl for whom the singer feels a lot of affection and whose heart has been broken. For me, it is a song about hope, motivation, and resilience. It is a song about support and about finding the strength to move forward in life even when we feel devastated. The last part of the song, the piano solo, is my favorite segment because I interpret it as the moment when the chiquitita, struggling to find energy and will within her, finally gets up, wipes her tears off, and starts walking again.
It is a beautiful song that also makes me cry every time I listen to it, at the beginning because of the sadness and then again at the end because of the hope it conveys.

I understand getting to the lowest of lows. I have been so low I never thought I would ever come out of it. I remembered advice I had heard from time to time that if you ever feel there's no hope of things getting better talk to someone. Even if you don't feel it's possibe. That is what saved me and you did the right thing by talking to us. Never apologize for your emotions. We are here for you so you never need to be alone. I totally agree with what you said about how sometimes you go through things that there are no words to describe. That is why I love music as it expresses our emotions for us. Abba is able to do that but they also go further than that. They heal us with their words and music such as in this song where they empathized with their friend's heartache but also gave her hope and reassurance that things will be okay once again. Always remember that things will get better. You are a beautiful woman and deserve so much happiness in your life. I am sending my love and prayers your way 🙏❤️.

"Chiquitita" proved to be one of ABBA's biggest hits. It was featured in a 1979 UNICEF charity event, the Music for UNICEF Concert, broadcast worldwide from the United Nations General Assembly. As a direct result of this event, ABBA donated half of all royalties from the song to UNICEF.
"Chiquitita" was a No. 1 hit in Belgium, Finland, Ireland, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Spain, Switzerland, Mexico, South Africa and Rhodesia. It was a Top 5 hit in ABBA's native Sweden, the United Kingdom (peaking at No. 2 in both countries where Blondie's "Heart of Glass" was occupying the top spot),Australia, West Germany and Norway. This makes it the most successful single from the Voulez-Vous album in terms of global charts and one of the most famous charity songs ever.
To this day, 50% of the proceeds from the song go to UNICEF in recognition of the "International Year of the Child" in 1979.

Im from Sweden (the home of Abba), never listen much to them. But you have open up my eyes and ears of this fantastic band. I remember when I grew up it was a band for nerds, girls and gays, as we thought among my friends. So we laughed at every boy that listened to Abba. So wrong we were, its a fantastic band who probably was bigger abroad than in their homeland!

I grew up with all the fabulous music from the 60's - 80's. ABBA was one of my favorites. They had lots of hits & I owned many of their albums. I can't think of a bad song by them. Some of their best are "Gimme, Gimme, Gimme", "Thank You For The Music", "Does Your Mother Know?", "Waterloo", "Money, Money, Money", "The Name Of The Game", "Super Trouper", "I Have A Dream", "Voulez-Vous", "Fernando", "Take A Chance On Me", "Mamma Mia", "SOS", "Knowing Me, Knowing You", "Dancing Queen" etc. Nice to see that they are back together again recording after all these years.

This song in particular just has a motherly tone to it. It feels so nurturing and uplifting. Especially since my mother used to play this song in the kitchen while making dinner.
I’m a grown adult and working overseas and when I feel like I’m struggling, I play this song, idk if makes sense, but it feels like I’m 5 years old being covered in hugs from my mother telling me everything is going to be fine.

My grandma dedicated this song to my family before dying of Cancer, now I'm in the same situation and not only do I dedicate this song to my own family, but all those whom are struggling.
