Sweet to see you teaching, working, and giggling with your daughter -- The security of her daddy's love is the foundation to her life-long spiritual and emotional well-being.
Planted some fruit of love for Mother's Day good for you. thnx for sharing and I love that your getting your kids out there with you that's wonderful teaching them these things. Stuff that will stick with them forever and making memories with them. Dad remember when we planted these bushes on Mother's day that year? great job Dad!
Food for future thought, leave at least an inch between the newspaper and the shaft of the plant other wise you run the risk of root rot. Especially with trees. You also may need to add some organic store ingredients to make the ground a little more acidic the first year and maybe even 2. After that you should be fine as long as you keep adding the mulch every year for the first few. Keep at it and love the videos of Paul's place. That man is my hero too. GOD bless. If you have access to pine needles they can add the acidity needed for blueberries. Use them in the mulch anytime you add mulch to the blues as well as some green fresh ones in your with the mulch already down.
do you have any planting or update videos for these hillside strawberries - wondering if you had any grass or rocks and how well did wood chips and strawberries helped prevent the soil erosion?
Dude...just some constructive critisizym...Isnt the newpapers (wich are not in the forest cover) blocking the nutrients from getting below them like a whick? Yes it kills weeds but it seams to me the dirt under them seams are hard and is unfirtile.Would it be better to not use newspaper and to just cover the earth with wood chips 6 inches high every year for like 3 years. Did the Back to Eden Garden start with newspapers all over his garden? Can you please ask Paul about that? Becuase I dont think it's best to plant over or under the newspapers. I kinda thinking there should be no newspapers at all... thanks for your vids...Paul. C...:)
It would be better to 6 inches deep every year for three years then plant and Paul has said you can do that if you want. Paul did his orchard with 18 inches of woodchips when he started it. People want to plant today which is why Paul teaches to put down a layer of cardboard or newspaper then cover with the woodchips. The nutrients and minerals will still be able to get to the ground through the newspaper and the newspaper will decompose more with every rain.
I moved from the house to the desert of Eastern Washington then, started over. Watch this video from a couple of years ago to see how well 2 feet of woodchips composted. czcams.com/video/r_o0sl3bems/video.html
I think you should have watered in your new blueberry plants before you put your paper and mulch back. I also don't think your layer of chips is deep enough. It looks like more like 2 inches than 4, but maybe the video is deceiving. Its nice to se you getting your daughter so involved in helping you !!
with all the chip and compost mulch the soil should be PH 7.0 or over have you done something to get the PH down to 4.8 ish? Did you test the PH of the soil before planting? I have mine growing in barrels while I try and amend my soil from 6.0 to 4.8 with flowers of sulphur have you or paul got another method?
Nige NZ Paul's ground has been tested many times by many people. He has a PH of 7.0 He plants alkaline plants right next to acidic loving plants and they both do great. My blueberries were doing great, so great that someone decided that they wanted them and pulled the bush right out of the ground while we were in Eastern Washington during the move.
ah =( so don't worry about the PH as long as the soil is healthy? Ive planted mine straight into peat moss at the moment while I condition my soil over the winter
You should plant 3. Also the fist year or two you may need to add to the soil and mulch to make it more acidic. After that mulching should be plenty. Pine needles in the mulch around them if you have access to them.
Enjoyed watching father and daughter bonding. Great job dad!
Wonderful to watch the two of you planting. You are a patient father and she is just adorable!
It's great seeing a video of some actual planting through the newspaper/wood chip method.
kids love gardening!
Good stuff. Baby Girl is a natural at this. :)
Thanks for sharing.
She's so cute! :)
She knows it too.

Ain't it interesting how B2E style doesn't require soil acidification..? I wonder how they did, they still alive?
How deep is the soil now in 2022? How long does it take this method to create a foot of good topsoil?

Could you teach us about the newspaper technique?

i was told to plant at least 3 blueberry bushes so they can cross polinate. i only did 2 and they both died. i got bad luck with blueberrys lol

Portable
How far apart did you plant your blueberries. what climate zone are you in.
how long do you leave the newspaper under the wood chips?
... the paper will disintegrate over time ...
