- Steam and Diesel Excursions around Carlisle:
Black 5 44871,
Diesels 57601, 47805, 47810!
17 Feb 24
As well as some of the usual scheduled trains, we see two excursions plus a light engine move.
Black Five 44871 hauled the Winter Cumbrian Mountain Express with 57601 at the rear. We see it at Carlisle Citadel Station and heading south on the S&C at Cotehill.
Also at Cotehill, and later at Brisco, just south of Upperby Bridge Junction on the WCML, we see the Settle & Carlisle Circular, this time from Leamington Spa. It ran via the curve from London Road to Upperby, thus avoiding the Citadel station.
As a bonus we have 56105 heading to Carlisle Network Yard after a run out to Doncaster.

ThexBlack 5 looks so natural in the scenery on Settle line. Wonderful filming
They are definitely at home around here
The Black 5 looked straight out of the 50s/60s a wonderful sight . Congrats on 5k subs and another great video
Thanks! It really sparkled especially with its Scottish Region smokebox numberplate.
Love the variety of equipment. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks!
Lovely video of the older locos in the wonderful scenery Les.
Glad you enjoyed it
It's quality footage such as this that's earned you 5k subscribers.
Thanks Stephen!

Thanks 👍 I was lucky with the weather
A fine mix, but those pastoral shots are the best. Nice 57 in Carlisle and beautiful steam and 47 out int he country especially! Excellent work!
Thanks Anthony. I thought you'd enjoy the rural views.
Great captures Leslie awesome share some cool catches at the station enjoy those trains
Thanks!
Very nice spot out in the country you found Leslie. Great bit of filming. Nice to see a Black 5 having a go too. All the best.
Thanks Tim
Lucky the rain held off long enough to get the good views of the charter trains in open country. It poured down all the way home, I got more wet on the bus with its leaky roof though.
It was starting before I left cotehill and light rain at Bris o. I managed to get from my car to the station when the heavens opened!
Another great video Les. Thank you.
Thanks again!
Great video! I was also at Carlisle last Saturday.
Cool! It was a good day
Super video!
Thanks
The 2 tone green 47s looked great. But the Black 5 looked better!
It looks great - its first trip up here this year and really sparkling.
Seeing 44871 today carnforth to Southall WCR
Cool!
Great video, as usual Leslie. Whats the best day to visit Carlisle for more freight, is there even a better one. Also good to see some proper 47s, rather than that horrid whiney thing masquerading as a 57. Just thinking of having a dodge over. Havent been to Carlisle in a good while. Thanks for sharing the video , young sir.
Yeah, lazy 4 stroke Vs busy bee 2 stroke
Thanks! Best days are during the week but it can vary from day to day as some of what were daily freights are becoming 2 or 3 times a week or not running at all. As to times, there are gaps but the regulars are early morning, mid morning, midday, mid afternoon and then through the evening
Lol
That day's weather went to hell in a bucket, didn't it. I was amused by the kids waiting to board that TPE service to EDB. I'm not sure which set I prefer, the maroon or the Pullman. A full rake - all the same colour - does look good.
The weather did turn! I agree that a uniform set does look smart
Congrats on 5k
Thank you! 😃
