Well, to be fair, I honestly don’t know if Thermae would have made the list even if I had demoed it. It’s one of the most intense love/hate relationships I’ve had with a pedal. One day it’s the best pedal ever and the next day it’s the worst. It’s difficult to get the same result twice with that pedal, which it took me some time to accept. But I’ve sorta learned to roll with its randomness. There’s beauty in that as well. But the sounds it makes are 100% gorgeous and super unique 👌
Could you advice some good lonely firms, like Hunhry Robot or Fairfield Circuitry ? Will appreciate that a lot, want to create some not-normal sounding guitar setup)

You made the menris sound so much better than other youtubers. Not trying to blast them, but sometimes a pedal requires more than slapping the pedal on, dialing randomly, and force feeding pentatonic runs. It sounded really nice

Great list! The Dweller and the Parabola, ate on my top 5 to get list, at the moment. I love the Meris pedals, and would love to have any of their line. Great year! Hope you have an awesome holiday, and a shredding New Year!
I'm going with the selfish version. My favorite pedal releases of 2018 were each time a warehouse released a pedal to be shipped to me. And each time, there was much rejoicing.
Congratulations on another great year brother on the pedal zone brother. I don’t see all your episodes but when I do pop in it is a real treat....Some of my favourites for the year: in the above 300 dollar mark (Aust dollar) “boutique” pedal world I’m really digging the Mr Black Twin Lazers. I know you love stereo mode pedals so this one should be on your list to check out. In terms of a 200 dollar more run of the mill pedal I’m in love with The Keeley Verb o Trem. It’s compact, it’s tight, but man it packs a punch. Although it doesn’t have a useful plate reverb, it’s 3 trem/vib settings has meant it’s replaced my Flint at least temporarily. With so many plate treats in the last years, I probably just need a break. The other pedal to mention (and I’m not sure when it was released) but I bought it this year, so hey I’m down, is the digitech Freqout. What a pedal. In terms of pedal disappointments, I’m gonna have to go with the Stone Deaf Kliptonite. Perhaps I needed to spend more time with it, but I found it inconsistent and as such limiting and annoying. It is also very big for a pedal that ain’t gonna get much use for a set. A case could be made for having it as a worthy studio tool. Cheers pedal freaks - see you down the dusty pedal track sometime.

I think Enzo can be as simple or as involved as you like. If you just stick to what you see on the front to begin with, and ignore all the hidden ALT controls, then it's pretty simple to grasp what everything does and how they affect each other. When you have that under control, you can begin to mess with the ALT controls. But yeah, Enzo can be a bit like learning a new instrument. It's worth the time investment though. Just such a great pedal. Happy you like it ❤
ThePedalZone I’m looking for some kind of ambient/ethereal pedal (so something very similar to the Afterneath). Maybe an OBNE procession or darkstar? I’ve already got a Polymoon, so I’m not sure where to go next
Sure, OBNE Procession and Dark Star are great textural reverbs. Procession is more airy and open though, whereas Dark Star is very "dark" and drone-like. So it all depends on what flavour you need. Could also be worth checking out the EQD Transmisser, if you want something a la the Afterneath but a bit more modulated. You could also go all the way and get the Meris Mercury7. Was born to be paired with the Polymoon ☺👍
Stefan, as always your enthusiasm is contagious, you get me so psyched to do weird things with gear. I was lucky enough to score an Enzo, and I agree- its lights out. So many amazing pedals out this year, it must have been very difficult to pick just ten. I really want to check out the Dweller, the fact that it's a whole new effect is compelling as hell. The Tensor deserves mention, as does The Thermae. I would also really like to get my paws on that Parabola, that preamp sounds so freakin good. I can only imagine how great it would sound driven by the pre-amp of a Deluxe Memory Man. An honorable sleeper mention, for me, is the EHX OP Amp Muff- my kind of muff and really hard to find a good vintage one, so the fact that I got the reissue for about sixty bucks was so rad. Really need a windfall of cash to even get a quarter of the cool new pedals being put out.

2 phasers in the top 3? That’s crazy stuff. Flanger>Phaser. I would go with 1. EQD Pyramids 2. Enzo 3. Caroline Parabola They make less popular guitar effects *extremely* easy to swallow. Awesome video, awesome list.
Hehe. It’s always been the other way around for me. Always preferred phasers over Flangers. They give me that swirly movement that I actually like in Flangers, but without the harshness and metallic sheen. But Pyramids have definitely made me more open to Flangers in the future. It’s a stunning pedal. And I would almost say that there’s no phasers on the list. Sure, the Dweller and Horizont can do various phaser sounds, but that’s not where they stand out. They shine as magical soundscape devices. They are so much more than just phasers 😊 But your list is great, dude! Love all of those pedals to bits. Happy you enjoyed the video, my friend ❤️
ThePedalZone my only issue with phasers is that I feel they ‘filter’ too much. Too much phase can be overbearing, but most every flange box has a mix knob. I’ve only played the MXR phase 90, so I should probably broaden my phase horizon lol. KMA has some sweet stuff, and there are so many options on the phaser that it might do for me what the Pyramids did for you. Phase can be so tasteful, usually when it’s paired with another effect. That’s exactly why I’m saving for a polymoon. Delay, Phaser and Flanger- the best of all worlds.
Happy to hear you dig the Westwood as well. And don't get me started on the Night Wire. Best and most inspiring Harmonic Trem out there, at least in my book. It's cool you mentioned the CIOKS DC7. That power supply has got to be the new standard for excellence. There is nothing else on the market with that kind of versatility and power in such a compact unit. Hopefully more companies will see this aggressive move from CIOKS and try their hand at pushing the envelope too. Competition is good. I think it's pronounced 'Chocks' though.
I totally agree. This is the best PSU currently on the market. Extremely high quality and so full-featured. And yeah, you're right about the pronunciation. I've just always pronounced it like it's spelled, and it's a hard habit to break 😉
I would like to see a top 10 for pedals for Zzound. I have to get pedals on their affordable installment plan. I think this would wake up Zzounds to the pedals you showcase giving you a greater reach to pedal buyers who are more on a budget like me. How hard would this be to put the best pedal reviewer at the feet of someone who can make them affordable? Great work and I will keep watching your reviews!!!

I would have to say that the Red Panda Tensor is my favorite this year. I bought the Enzo about a month ago and I like it more and more every day. But the Tensor is outstanding!
I also really want a Tensor. I only tried it briefly when I visited EQD back in August. Jamie Stillman had it, and it seemed like it was a lot of fun 👍 Happy to hear you dig Enzo as well. Such an inspiring device ❤️

I really was glad to see the Gamechanger Audio sustain pedal. But when I saw it was $329, I was content with me Freeze pedal. If the price was half that, I’d put it in my top ten of the year.

I really hope you get your hands on the Electroman Mkii from Solid Gold FX. It's my favorite delay of the year, as it has the effects of the Kilobyte, with more options, and a great mod option.
@@hardcorewithin I honestly know very little about pickups. I just try to get the most out of my guitars stock. If I need some tone shaping, then I use drive or eq pedals to get there :)

Didn’t think it would be fair to put it on the list since I haven’t given it the full rundown yet on CZcams. But it’s on my honorable mentions list, which you can find pinned to the top in the comments section. Regarding gateway Flangers, I would highly recommend the EQD Pyramids or the OBNE Flat Light. Best Flangers I’ve played, and I like that they have a ton of textural features, which makes them perfect for my musical style 😊👌

Edit: My favorite pedal from 2018 is probably my new Keeley Java Boost. One of 60 that they made (that I know of), it uses a Russian germanium transistor in place of the OC44. A wonderful sound that has gotten me addicted to treble boosts. Pete Cornish is going to have to be my next stop, unfortunately for my wallet!

Well, to be fair, I honestly don’t know if Thermae would have made the list even if I had demoed it. It’s one of the most intense love/hate relationships I’ve had with a pedal. One day it’s the best pedal ever and the next day it’s the worst. It’s difficult to get the same result twice with that pedal, which it took me some time to accept. But I’ve sorta learned to roll with its randomness. There’s beauty in that as well. But the sounds it makes are 100% gorgeous and super unique 👌

You made the menris sound so much better than other youtubers. Not trying to blast them, but sometimes a pedal requires more than slapping the pedal on, dialing randomly, and force feeding pentatonic runs. It sounded really nice

Congratulations on another great year brother on the pedal zone brother. I don’t see all your episodes but when I do pop in it is a real treat....Some of my favourites for the year: in the above 300 dollar mark (Aust dollar) “boutique” pedal world I’m really digging the Mr Black Twin Lazers. I know you love stereo mode pedals so this one should be on your list to check out. In terms of a 200 dollar more run of the mill pedal I’m in love with The Keeley Verb o Trem. It’s compact, it’s tight, but man it packs a punch. Although it doesn’t have a useful plate reverb, it’s 3 trem/vib settings has meant it’s replaced my Flint at least temporarily. With so many plate treats in the last years, I probably just need a break. The other pedal to mention (and I’m not sure when it was released) but I bought it this year, so hey I’m down, is the digitech Freqout. What a pedal. In terms of pedal disappointments, I’m gonna have to go with the Stone Deaf Kliptonite. Perhaps I needed to spend more time with it, but I found it inconsistent and as such limiting and annoying. It is also very big for a pedal that ain’t gonna get much use for a set. A case could be made for having it as a worthy studio tool. Cheers pedal freaks - see you down the dusty pedal track sometime.

I think Enzo can be as simple or as involved as you like. If you just stick to what you see on the front to begin with, and ignore all the hidden ALT controls, then it's pretty simple to grasp what everything does and how they affect each other. When you have that under control, you can begin to mess with the ALT controls. But yeah, Enzo can be a bit like learning a new instrument. It's worth the time investment though. Just such a great pedal. Happy you like it ❤

ThePedalZone I’m looking for some kind of ambient/ethereal pedal (so something very similar to the Afterneath). Maybe an OBNE procession or darkstar? I’ve already got a Polymoon, so I’m not sure where to go next
Sure, OBNE Procession and Dark Star are great textural reverbs. Procession is more airy and open though, whereas Dark Star is very "dark" and drone-like. So it all depends on what flavour you need. Could also be worth checking out the EQD Transmisser, if you want something a la the Afterneath but a bit more modulated. You could also go all the way and get the Meris Mercury7. Was born to be paired with the Polymoon ☺👍

Stefan, as always your enthusiasm is contagious, you get me so psyched to do weird things with gear. I was lucky enough to score an Enzo, and I agree- its lights out. So many amazing pedals out this year, it must have been very difficult to pick just ten. I really want to check out the Dweller, the fact that it's a whole new effect is compelling as hell. The Tensor deserves mention, as does The Thermae. I would also really like to get my paws on that Parabola, that preamp sounds so freakin good. I can only imagine how great it would sound driven by the pre-amp of a Deluxe Memory Man. An honorable sleeper mention, for me, is the EHX OP Amp Muff- my kind of muff and really hard to find a good vintage one, so the fact that I got the reissue for about sixty bucks was so rad. Really need a windfall of cash to even get a quarter of the cool new pedals being put out.
Oh yeah, everything KMA does looks fantastic.

Caroline Meteore reverb was a great addition to my rig this year. Used tastefully and sparingly, it's an awesome secret weapon!

Hehe. It’s always been the other way around for me. Always preferred phasers over Flangers. They give me that swirly movement that I actually like in Flangers, but without the harshness and metallic sheen. But Pyramids have definitely made me more open to Flangers in the future. It’s a stunning pedal. And I would almost say that there’s no phasers on the list. Sure, the Dweller and Horizont can do various phaser sounds, but that’s not where they stand out. They shine as magical soundscape devices. They are so much more than just phasers 😊 But your list is great, dude! Love all of those pedals to bits. Happy you enjoyed the video, my friend ❤️
ThePedalZone my only issue with phasers is that I feel they ‘filter’ too much. Too much phase can be overbearing, but most every flange box has a mix knob. I’ve only played the MXR phase 90, so I should probably broaden my phase horizon lol. KMA has some sweet stuff, and there are so many options on the phaser that it might do for me what the Pyramids did for you. Phase can be so tasteful, usually when it’s paired with another effect. That’s exactly why I’m saving for a polymoon. Delay, Phaser and Flanger- the best of all worlds.
Polymoon truly is the best of all worlds. It even does reverb when you crank up the dimension knob. Just a flawless ambient device.

It's cool you mentioned the CIOKS DC7. That power supply has got to be the new standard for excellence. There is nothing else on the market with that kind of versatility and power in such a compact unit. Hopefully more companies will see this aggressive move from CIOKS and try their hand at pushing the envelope too. Competition is good. I think it's pronounced 'Chocks' though.
I totally agree. This is the best PSU currently on the market. Extremely high quality and so full-featured. And yeah, you're right about the pronunciation. I've just always pronounced it like it's spelled, and it's a hard habit to break 😉
I would like to see a top 10 for pedals for Zzound. I have to get pedals on their affordable installment plan. I think this would wake up Zzounds to the pedals you showcase giving you a greater reach to pedal buyers who are more on a budget like me. @@thepedalzone Chris from Jptr Fx is a really nice guy, I dig his stuff! I hope you'll get around to checking all his pedals out, especially the Super Weirdo - that thing is crazy. :D EAE is well worth your time, aswell, I'd say. The Sending is easily among my favorite delays ever.
Honorable mention I forgot earlier: Dwarfcraft Devices Grazer, though I'm not sure it was released in 2018. Might have been 2017. XD
Can you pleaaaaase make a review of only analog pedals? Like a favorite 10 list for analog gear of each type of effect? That would be super dope as most of the digital stuff I hear just hurts to listen to personally. My favourites from this list were the parabola and the navigator, never heard either but now I’m very interested.

I would have to say that the Red Panda Tensor is my favorite this year. I bought the Enzo about a month ago and I like it more and more every day. But the Tensor is outstanding!
I also really want a Tensor. I only tried it briefly when I visited EQD back in August. Jamie Stillman had it, and it seemed like it was a lot of fun 👍 Happy to hear you dig Enzo as well. Such an inspiring device ❤️

Oh dude....I can’t believe I forgot about the JHS Haunting Mids?! Dude, I run it before my fuzz and drive pedals and the amount of sculpability it gives to your favourite gain pedals is unbelievable. Get it!!!!
A mid-booster is always a nice thing to have. I use my EQD Arrows for that. Just tightens things up and makes everything more present 👍

I really was glad to see the Gamechanger Audio sustain pedal. But when I saw it was $329, I was content with me Freeze pedal. If the price was half that, I’d put it in my top ten of the year.
I was very impressed by the Sending Delay pedal by EAE.

@@hardcorewithin I honestly know very little about pickups. I just try to get the most out of my guitars stock. If I need some tone shaping, then I use drive or eq pedals to get there :)

I freaking love the Rêver. Just haven’t had the time to demo it yet. Will happen next year. Didn’t think it would be fair to put it on the list since I haven’t given it the full rundown yet on CZcams. But it’s on my honorable mentions list, which you can find pinned to the top in the comments section. Regarding gateway Flangers, I would highly recommend the EQD Pyramids or the OBNE Flat Light. Best Flangers I’ve played, and I like that they have a ton of textural features, which makes them perfect for my musical style 😊👌

Like I said in this video, Pyramids was my gateway into the world of Flangers, and I actually like the effect now. Next to Pyramids, Flat Light is my second favorite flanger. If you don’t want the expansive possibilities that the Pyramids offers, but still want a unique Flanger with a textural twist, then Flat Light is the one. It’s awesome 🤘

Thanks, man! I have a couple of Squiers, so not sure which one you exactly mean. But the white one is the Squier J.Mascis Jazzmaster, and the black one is the Squier Jazzmaster Baritone. Both are excellent instruments. Real bang for the buck. And heck yeah, dude! Get those youngsters into the game quick. Teaching them to love music will be the gift that keeps on giving ❤️

Edit: My favorite pedal from 2018 is probably my new Keeley Java Boost. One of 60 that they made (that I know of), it uses a Russian germanium transistor in place of the OC44. A wonderful sound that has gotten me addicted to treble boosts. Pete Cornish is going to have to be my next stop, unfortunately for my wallet!
