They can! 😉
They can, if you are willing to put in the money and time. You need to show them you are comfortable with them eating your food, at the moment they've learned (quite correctly) that humans are not okay with that. Once you show them you're okay, they will react to your food as a reward system and are very capable of being trained.

I just love on how they do so many crazy stuff and rats are actually cleaner then us if you didn't know, they clean themselves constantly and we only clean ourselves once everyday so you know I'm just saying my opinion but I respect yours. :)

if you do decide to get one, make sure to get at least two as they are social animals and need the companionship of other rats. they are great pets though, little joys :)
