It’s been so hard to get a cab view video these days. Glad you got one, and kudos for standing during the entire ride.
Finally, a full ride cab view. Kudos!
I really liked the view from the cab. Great work man. Your channel is really growing fast because of the hard work you put in your videos. Fantastic work once again
Very true
wow a lomg ride and great views - well done ION
i don't know why but im now a HUGE fan of 100% low floor tram-trains such as the Flexity Freedom and the Citadis Spirit
I really like the Citadis Spirit. I like it even more than the Flexitys (Flexities?) and the Siemens S70. It just has more character - a cooler-sounding VF drive, a higher top speed, a much longer length, etc. I hope Alstom have fixed the many problems it had in Ottawa so they can have a successful rollout on the new Toronto LRT line.
So beautiful i would love to visit soon
I love the train ride
#respect and kudos!!!
congrats on the new line, although, i'm surprised that it is not green track...
This is by far the best quality video of the new SLOW LRT.
Yes
Yeah, I noticed that too - this line seems really slow, especially considering it’s in its own right-of-way for pretty much the whole route. If they want people to use it as a competitive alternative to cars, it needs to go faster than 25 mph.
It was the first day at time of recording dumbass
Therefore it went slower
For the reason they go so slow at start is so let people get used to it on the streets, starting slow then increasing speed over time
It’s a nice vehicle I’m excited to see it on crosstown will it sound different though
Nice! Im sure some people in Toronto who are watching this are saying "hurry up already!" regards Eglinton Crosstown LRT lol. Sure these are made by the same manufacturer that built the TTC streetcars, Bombardier, but never expected a Waterloo LRT to have TTC style door chimes
Bombardier seems unable to deliver on time and in budget.
@@chuckwin100 blame their shitty part suppliers
Some have noted that the speed seems disappointingly slow. Typically new light rail lines start out slower than the ultimate designed speed to allow the public time to become accustomed to the presence of train cars. Although this line seems to be on a dedicated right of way it does have street crossings. Therefore its for the benefit of drivers (and pedestrians) to become familiar with potential hazards intersecting with trains on their customary routes.
Sometimes this breaking-in period can be as long as a year especially if seasonal differences are important.
This past Monday we had 2 collisions involving the train on the same day. In the city. What more can you do to slow it down and get it noticed? I'd say not waste the time building it in the first place. Nobody benefits from the train. And it's only an excuse to build more high end super expensive housing. But we cant build affordable housing? We cant just build up the existing bus routes and drop it to an affordable price?
As of right now expenditures are over budget and I am not at all surprised. This lrt is the laughing stock of the world right now and it's a shame. I would like to live in a city that is actually aware of what is needed and do something about it.
This is a joke and disgrace.
It's easy for me to boycott using this train and using the bus is actually faster anyway. No matter what.
The latest claim is that ridership is down. No shock.
But will increase when university students come back. That's good right? Well.. no. Students pay for transit pass within their tuition so they are not financially supporting the train. There is nothing to be gained by serving a straight line route that busses already had covered.
I am fascinated by following the news of waterloos lrt because I have never seen a city make a debachary this huge before. It is just unreal the lack of understanding how useless this train is. What a shame.
But every time so.ething comes to light, they double down and try making wild claims to back up the assertion this train has its place.
10 active trains on the line now moving to 12 in Sept. That means for frequent forced stops on the main roads such as fairway. More train presence along all roads.
There is a section dow town on Charles where the train train is cross from right side to the left. Just.. right across the road. And you are trying tell me it is on drivers to be aware of their surroundings?
How about making a route that actually makes sense. There is a start.
Even just look at a map of kw waterloo. Its built on an angle! How do you do that?
How many businesses have been shut down because of this trains construction? I can point out an entire city block gone because of it. In the name of progress at 5 km an hour.
What a joke.
@@snaketeeth2229 Sigh. The thing has paid for itself already and ridership is up. I guess you must like suburban sprawl. And being wrong.
@@KenBreadbox yes. Because when I want to get from east to west, i think about taking the north and south running train line.
It having paid for itself does not validate a need for it. If I need to get to waterloo you know what I do? Take the already existing 201 that goes to university just fine.
It's such a silly useless system. Somehow we can afford a train, but we cant afford to give bus passes to those on welfare who would benefit from having transportation even available to them. No no. Let's just worry about those who can afford a luxury that isnt neccesary.
@@snaketeeth2229 See, what you fail to understand is that the train replaced the busiest bus line in the system (and it wasn't even close). Therefore, it just makes sense that's where the line would go. This city runs north to south. Besides, the idea of the LRT, and this has been explained countless times for 20 years now and people still refuse to listen, is to LIMIT SUBURBAN SPRAWL. Busses encourage sprawl. Fixed systems discourage it: development densifies along the fixed route. That was the whole point. That and the fact the trains hold 200 people as opposed to 78 for the busses.
@@KenBreadbox It's electric and it got a bunch of busses off the main line that ran every 3 minutes on the busiest roads. This is every 10 now and more capacity. Growing pains are still being felt but in the long run it will benefit the region.
This cool for way home 🏡
Did Bombardier sell off the lrt manufacturing along with its rail division to Alstom
Great job on getting this on film. Timelapse soon?
Just set the playback speed to 2X :)
Is this the same Ion featured on the Crippled News?
Dear TO, I will be visiting Toronto for a weekend in August. I will not have a car, and it looks like if I have any time to go out to Waterloo, it'll be on a Sunday. Do you have recommendations for the best way to go out and back? I realize that GO trains don't run to Kitchener on Sundays.
@KW BentRiDer But not directly from Union Station?
Why are there tracks at some of the stations that are offset a bit?
The ones that are offset or have four tracks at them are on sections that are used for freight traffic at night, the tracks are called gutlet tracks and are designed so that a train can pass by without being near the platform for the LRT.
When are you doing a Grand River Transit Bus route
Bus Routes have been modified. Check their website for the changes.
Congrats on the new LRT! It’s about time some form of progress happens, too bad it’s not the TTC... 2 things. Why are the tracks offset at the rail corridor stations and why is it so slow?
The offset tracks are called gauntlet tracks. They’re needed because a freight railroad shares the tracks with the LRT in certain places. At stations along the shared tracks, the gauntlet tracks route any passing freight trains a little further away from the station platform to allow for the larger clearance of the freight cars, and when the LRT is in service, the tracks route the trains right along the platform to reduce the platform gap.
As for why it’s so slow, I’m not sure. It’s a really inefficient system with speeds that low, and hopefully they can be raised in the future.
If that’s the horn at 12:10 I’m not impressed. It sounds like a car horn. It needs a commanding two-tone like the Belgian Kusttram.
What happened at the beginning? Did the train derail a bit?
No it stopped at the red signal because the switch wasn't set back to the correct position. If it had derailed, it wouldn't have been allowed to continue.
That sound you hear, are the Sanders kicking in, to add traction in braking. Happens when there's moisture or anything that could degrade braking
You should consider changing the font of your graphics as it looks very dated
Turn signals? Interesting...
First
I like your video, but it seems like a strange route to me. Eventually I felt like it was trying to avoid picking anyone up. Once it gets past Cameron there isn't much action.
Can you imagine ,Neil Reitzel, Frank Moskall & Murray Allen, Spinning in their graves with beards permitted. Back in their day, sideburns were not permitted and the uniform was para-military. And... God Forbid !! Turbans ??? Back then, the service was called PUC. ( Public Utilities Commission.) I was a transit operator then and was ahead of my time. But, that was then and this is now. And, I outlived them all and feel vindicated!
The proposed route through North Cambridge is very controversial. They did their studies but didn't consult the community while planning it.

I'm a bit disappointed by its speed. Why bother to build an LRT if it is not faster than number 7 bus?
Yea I have to say I'm thinking that too. The design speed of the line seems to be ridiculously low in way too many places. But, it does have its advantages. Its own right of way, so no waiting in congestion, and a higher capacity than a bus.
Think of it this way. It continues thru the whole route with no delays. It’s basically a subway.
It doesn't look like they have the signalling quite right. Hopefully they can fix this.
@@duffyy1 16:20 train does a full stop. goes into station. Takes full minute and half to get back up to speed which is still low because it is within traffic. That is no delay to you?
Bus stops at the stop. People get on and off 10 seconds then it moves. To where you are going. Like you need it to.
@ 23 minutes train does a full stop again. While at what appears to be a set of both green lights and red lights. Who knows what that means.
This new LRT has chocked the city for traffic. The city planners had their heads up their ass on this project. The counsel who voted this in were paid off, and now retired. Taking city streets that had four lanes with decent traffic flow and cutting them down to one lane so that a train that runs at a snail pace can get through.... BRIALLENT ! Our hard earned money is going to pay for this mistake for decades to come.
Take this train and you don't need to worry so much about traffic.
@@KenBreadbox T-take the train????? But the train is for po-poor people REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬
They copied the TTC chime. Oof
With all due respect, i supposed most people in Canada were white not brown. (I'm not from Canada, and i have nothing against brown people, it's just curiosity.)
Canada is extremely multi-cultural especially Toronto. In Toronto we have nearly a neighbourhood for every culture. Even a small Tibetan one
I love the train ride
