When BC started 0 and 5 in 2011 they did not fire Wally Bouno. They fixed the situation by getting Arland Bruce. I am an American who deeply follows the CFL and NFL. When coaching is the problem you get rid of the coach when it's the players you get rid of the players. If the Spurs fired Gregg Popovich before David Robinson & Tim Duncan than there would be no historical coach Pop legacy to talk about so I wish organizations could decifer the difference one day whether it's the coach or the player and act according instead of blaming the coach all the time.
None of this was Chris Jones's fault he did not tell Nyles Morgan to commit a face mask penalty @ BC in the 4th quarter. Chris Jones did not tell Boris Bede to kick the ball out of bounds so that Ottawa could start on their own 50 yard line. These gaffs are by the players. If the Elks continue these bone head mistakes they will lose @ Ottawa on Friday nothing is going to change until the players on the Elks knock it off. The only thing I blame Chris Jones for is not starting Tre Ford this season. MBT is not Tre Ford it's ironic how the Elks won 3 games in a row last season when Tre Ford started. If Bethel Thompson keeps playing the way he is the Elks will continue to lose regardless of the coach. MBT is a good QB but Tre Ford is a superstar in the CFL and why he continues to be on the sideline is moronic to me.
His record wasn't just 0-5, it was 8-33. How bad do you have to be as both a GM and coach to be responsible for that?
@Billyum53 it's the players, not him in the CFL. You need a QB to push the ball down the field until #2 Tre Ford starts playing your team will continue to lose. MBT is way past his prime in the CFL. Yes he can still make plays but he does not put any pressure on the defence like Tre Ford can. If anyone thinks Jarious Jackson and Geroy Simon are going to do better than what Chris Jones did for the Edmonton Eskimos / Elks there nuts. In 2015 Edmonton won a Grey Cup with Chris Jones as the HC. It comes down to players. You need players who play smart and play with common sense. A coach cannot teach common sense to a player. An 8 and 33 record with a majority of those losses coming in the final few minutes is due to idiotic play by the players. The Elks have the talent at WR and RB all they need is somebody on the coaching staff to realize what Tre can do. Last season the team was worse and Tre Ford steps in
@Billyum53 HC Chris Jones is still a solid coach he was no different when he led the Edmonton Eskimos to a Grey Cup in 2015. It comes down to players. Bob Dyce had a terrible record last year and many called for him to get fired was against that as well. Fast forward to this year and now you know why you don't fire a coach all the time. You get the right players and you come from there. Until Tre Ford starts games for the Elks they will continue to be Medicore at best.
@Billyum53 As I told you before the Edmonton Elks will not consistently win games again until #2 Tre Ford starts starting games. It's not Chris Jones . Chris has won multiple Grey Cups in the CFL and even has NFL coaching experience. The man knows what he is doing he just had a terrible roster the last few seasons. Tonight with Jarious Jackson and Geroy Simon it made no difference they lost again..Once Tre Ford starts playing the Elks will be much more competitive. Jackson. Is not the answer as their future HC either.
Until Tre Ford starts playing every game they will struggle. Losing these games was not Chris Jones fault..Players who continue to make defensive errors and commit penalties at the end of games is not the ciaches fault. Unfortunately Chris Jones was the fall guy. However if the close losses were wins this year than he would still be the coach in Edmonton. So it's not the coaching in Edmonton it's the players honing in on their assignments there is nothing Jarious Jackson or Geroy Sumon can do. It comes down to the players it's there decision if they want to win or not. Until Tre Ford starts playing every game the Elks will continue to struggle. Last year you saw the results with Tee Ford in the lineup. What are the Elks waiting for. Next year lol.
Jones was obviously a terrible judge of talent as a GM. Anyone who would bring in a virus like Duron Carter has no clue what he's doing! Will make a good high school coach in the US.
