The INSANE story of Jack Ma, and the story of Alibaba. Today we know him as Jack Ma, but back in 1964 when he was born in China, he was called Yun Ma, and it was a foreign tourist who suggested he use the English name Jack Ma. However, Jack Ma's beginnings were extremely humble - so the story of how he built Alibaba from nothing and grew the company to be worth billions of dollars is incredible. In fact, Alibaba had the largest IPO in history when it began selling shares on the stock market. And Jack Ma's other company, The Ant Group (Alibaba's fintech sister company) was also due to have the largest IPO in history - however events in China meant that was abruptly cancelled. And instead people began to ask: where is Jack Ma? This is the crazy story of Jack Ma & the rise of Alibaba! (Aka the rise & fall of Jack Ma). We'll also be looking at how Alibaba became a conglomerate, including its initial funding from Goldman Sachs and Masayoshi Son (Softbank) along with their launch of Taobao and business battle with eBay. The story of Alibaba is pretty crazy, and I hope you enjoy.

Lately I’ve been posting more regularly (not difficult given I used to post like once a month 😅!) but in case you missed it, here’s my video from earlier in the week about Rolex: The most secretive company in the world: czcams.com/video/IbwYuT8_c00/video.html ⌚👀
Also I know my voiceover audio needs improving - I’m definitely working on that for future videos. 👍
And finally, don’t forget to check out AppSumo (it’s genuinely really useful): social.appsumo.com/magnatesmedia-tidycal - if you run any sort of online business, you’ve probably noticed you end up with a bunch of different software/subscription payments every month, right? Well with Appsumo you can get lifetime deals at ridiculously discounted prices (like sometimes 90% of the normal price). I’ve got multiple deals from here myself which is why I reached out to them to be a sponsor. And if you use my link you get an EXTRA discount on top of their normal discount (the discount applies to any product, not just TidyCal). Only for the first 100 people though so be quick!

    • @keeptryingtop
      @keeptryingtop Před rokem +215

This is a very common practice in China. yet we see American workers whine every day about 8 hour shifts and how the capitalist system oppresses them. Let them live in beautiful communist China, where the state literally owns you, where you have to work for 40 years to buy your home (at the same time, after buying you only get housing for use for 75 years, after which the state takes it away), and where for any criticism of the ruling parties in the social network, the goverment will deprive you of any privileges. Your standard of living directly depends on how unique work you are doing. A cashier at McDonald's has a shitty life under any regime and in any country. I am not trying to describe here the solution to the current problems of capitalism. I just wanted to say that his alternative in the flesh will be much worse, because we have had and still have examples of how the communist concept is slipping into dictatorship, repression and restrictions on human freedom.
While people in the West swear and argue with each other endlessly, China is conducting a covert expansion of the Western world, planning to completely subjugate the world market and the global media space in the next 30-40 years (and they are successfully implementing their plan with applications like tik tok or discord and with endless cheap production. That's why they need Taiwan, because the latter produces almost all microelectronics in the world). Russia has already put the whole of Europe on a gas and energy needle and, relying on it, does what it wants. As a result, the "modest East", which does not endlessly talk about idiotic topics like the oppression of transgender people, but works together for a common goal, successfully takes the entire West hostage. And, judging by the ongoing stratification in the Western bloc, this does not bother people at all. If only gas was cheap, tik tok videos were funny and goods from aliexpress arrived faster...
P.S. And for those who like to oppose the property tax in the United States - China has it too. This is how any city in any country works. Without taxes, there will be no one and nothing to serve its entire infrastructure, develop new directions, repair roads, sidewalks, etc. And yes, under absolutely any regime there will be a stratification of society into the poor and the ultra-rich. It's inevitable, it's human nature.

The fact that you can start a small makeup business complete with customized branding and design your own products is amazing and many people in different countries use that feature. In fact, some claim that Alibaba is government-owned when that is untrue and accuse Jack Ma of being some kind of spy for the Chinese government. Now you want to say Jack Ma has always been an inspiration? Give me a break. Growing up in the USA, anyone who was Chinese was labeled as a spy, both Chinese overseas and Chinese Americans. That "sense of smell" when investing is a very real thing. Just watch Shark Tank, a lot of times they invest in people instead of products.
In 2002 I just graduated college and was living with my parents while working at one of the larger investment firms. I remember when ipods were getting popular, and when my mom saw I had them, she said "do I need one of them?"
It's a story often told in my family, but the next day I started investing a portion of my paycheck into Apple stock (via my Roth IRA). From 2002-2008 I put approximately 3% of my disposable income into it, which turned out to be a smart move. Didn't know any of the fundamental or technical analysis, it just passed the smell test 💯✌️

Jack Ma’s criticism of the Chinese government is perhaps the most intriguing part of this entire arc. Surely he must’ve known there’d be some severe if not dire consequences.
So either a) he is kinda that dumb, or b) that was his way of voluntarily stepping down from the company because he was done. I’d like to believe he knew what he was doing, but we may never know.

First of all, i think you did a great coverage of Jack ma and his background, but there is something that you didnt know, or maybe didnt dig hard enough. Jack ma family is not as poor as u say, his father is the chairman of music & art association back in zhejiang china, even before that, he is a famous artist and calligrapher back in those days. Jack ma has access to computer & internet way ahead of many people at that era which give a huge head start before anyone else. Secondly, if you are talking about ANT group, what u cover is probably half of the story...the second half of the story is that he is trying to manipulate the market with just 3million RMB and leverage to a crazy amount of 1000X or even more...which will be jeopardizing china economy if anything goes wrong...Even he did not make the speech about chinese finanical oversight & making critical statement about the regulations, he will still be pegged down as he will create financial bubble and making new ways for foreign capitalism to come in and control chinese investor wealth...when that happens, chinese government will have a hard time to solve this problem. I am not a PRO-CCP but that the government is doing is to prevent capitalism taking over the country. To be honest, look at US government and congress, guns and fire arms banning movement has been said and even promote to a country level which wish to make it happen for a long time, but what they do not see is the wealth and profit that is linked to all the governors and senators. so you tell me if the chinese government has do anything to give a false accusation to their own countryman?

Actually... what really happen is the fact that Alibaba grown too big for its Holders to truly controlled it.
And there were many small-time bad share holders were using the company footsteps to cover their corrupted deeds.
Like Zhao Wei for example, a China Actress. The only actress in China to became a Billionaire.
When she was questioned, it was simple, her money came from her investment in Alibaba, she had like a 1% or 3% share of a small branch of Alibaba but branch itself was inactive or ghosted. So basically, there shouldn't be any money coming from it. Upon following the footstep of her money, it had shown that her billions didn't come from Alibaba. Thus she was banned from Stock Market and any online investment for 10yrs. Because they suspect her money comes from something else. Currently, she is banned from all China Platform. Even her names & works & achievement is erased from Chinese Entertainment Industry.
This open a full blown investigation to many people who had use Alibaba's legal footprints to cover their money laundering business. It's simple, all you need is a 0.001% share in Alibaba, if people asking you why you're making so much money, you can say I made from Alibaba, same way Zhao Wei did.
This investigation was actually the true downfall of Jack Ma, he opened his doors to many bad people who abused Alibaba.
When I was young, my country recently had a few "Super Markets" and it was like a "Disney World Theme Park" for my country. Everyone goes there... EVERYBODY goes there. From the get goes, it would looked you'd sell 10,000 cups of coffee per day but the truth is, people bring their own water & coffee in. No one bought in super market, we simply can't afford it. Everyone is window shopping. No one could really afford those things. These were back in the 2000s. Minimum Wage in my country back then was $50-$75 per a month. How would someone afford a $4 cup of coffee?
But you see, I was dumb-found to why people would hire those expensive spaces in Super Market to sell shoes, bags... From the look of it, they never had sold a thing... All money goes to staff, renting the stores... It would be a Waste & Waste no matter how I looked at it. Because I was a gaming kid then, I'd spent hours in super market gaming, if I ran out of money, I would watch other kids and stay there for like 10hrs a day on summer. And I would pay attention to all these shops that seemingly have no customers and even the staff is half asleep all the times and I wonder, why do these owner keep the shop operating, it would just be wasting money, they didn't make any sales.
As I grew older, I became to understand it's all about money laundering. They do other things to get money... and they had these "Upfront" stores to wash their dirty money and to legalized their money. Because with the store up & running, they could create their own Textbook and fool everyone on how much money comes from the store while their money comes from somewhere else.
Yes, you make 1 million dollar from Drugs illegally, while writing in you account book that you made 1 million dollars sell from your Prada Store even though you didn't actually sell even just 1 bag.
