I highkey miss lore lady telling the lore with that old style story telling with the scroll ;(
guess she will never come back, because this comment is almost as old as baba yaga...and hi-rez doesn't seem to realize it xD
I don't think it's so much a nostalgia thing, but I would personally get more cultural significance from the old style of videos using the pantheon's music throughout the gameplay and ancient looking art work for the lore. Even if it wasn't always the best edited, there felt like more heart put into introducing the new character to the game.
i mean it's LORE, they should explain the freakin lore
same. that style is much more effective at telling lore since it is told like a story. This new way of lore where the god's monologue briefly is awkward in my opinion. Kinda like when you are asked to introduce yourself...lol Hi I am Baba Yaga and I'm a witch...soooo yeah I'm in the game now...lol
It seems like the developers are now assuming people already know about these characters (since most of them are suggested and voted by community), but still there are old players like me (somewhat lol) who played Smite because of these mythological beings whom I did not know about and find them interesting to learn.

@@techiedreyn3621 i think it's because smite started implementing their own lore now with the odyssey and other events. Their narrative is taking place now over the lore of the gods themselves

@@SuperAmaton lots of magic users such as witches like baba yaga,wizards like Merlin,and bokors(african/voodoo name for Animist) like baron samedi use there magic depending on how they feel or the situation.
personally I'm a bokor like baron Samedi. Meaning people who practice voodoo or other animistic Caribbean,creole,and african magic and religions. Of course since most of Africa's traditional religions like voodoo revolve around animism this means that bokors most deal with spirits,ouangas,fetishes(zumbi/zombie),spiritual mask,and voodoo dolls.(there's more but I don't feel like typing a whole essay about magic users)

For those, who wish to know her lore: in origin slavic folklore, Baba Yaga is the witch, living in a woods. She's neutral, but creepy powerful witch. Her house is always chicken-legged house, hidden in deep danger woods. All the main heroes in folklore find her to ask for a help when there is nothing left to do with. Excluding her own house, Baba Yaga moves sitting in pounder with broom. When heroes come, they always repeat the same phrase to enter the house: "Hut the hut, stand backward to the wood, but in front of me". There is no folklore stories about this witch, she's always a creepy strange neutral witch, that helps the bravest heroes to find their way. Mostly she gives them a ball of thread, that rolls by itself, helping to find what the hero wants to.
The only film I've seen this exact character was the halfassed mediocre and overall bad hellboy reboot
I know people are going to say bring back lore lady. She's still here. I'm actually fine with hearing the actual god tell their story

it's creepy how much you guys froth over this lore lady.
Let's be honest CGI trailers are far more expensive and rare so when they finally do one of course they're gonna use it on videos lol. Besides characters added now are based in the smite story lore not just own lore so they're going all in on that angle I guess.
It takes away some of the mysticism of the "god".
But then again, it's mostly because of how some of them are voiced.
Baba's VO is really rough, sounding like it was done in one take.

And for Halloween we might get a haunted house skin with Baba Yaga as a more modern witch. Green skin and all.
Props to HiRez for having over 100 gods in the game and still making really interesting and creative characters. (Kinda sad that Overwatch only has 30 something and the new characters feel like rip offs of older heroes)
Edit: Not saying that Smite and OW are the same type of game, just kinda disappointing to see OW dropping the ball on creativity compared to Smite for example.
Ye i understand what you're saying cus i play a decent amount of both games but you cant be too harsh on overwatch cus 1 hero can change an entire meta so needs more time to develop but other than that i agree

it's because Smite's model and stuff are much cheaper and less quality, where as OW models cost more money to make, OW is just a more quality game so harder to make lots of heroes

I'm from Bulgaria and I've heard so much about Baba Yaga. Might as well begin to play Smite again because of this.
This actually a pretty creative character, good on you Smite.
I picked up the game again after over a year not playing, so I didn't know any of the new gods. I remember I lost sight of Baba for a second and when I looked back she had transformed into a house. It was very startling when she started chasing me.

I hope the same, but then I saw one of her pts video that the house can almost entirely blocked the narrowest path in the map, and you can't control its location, so I guess this size is pretty reasonable.
If it was bigger in its default state you risk screen blocking etc

I remember thinking Terra was stage where gods were getting too needlessly complex but now we're at abilities acting like Tetris blocks in both directions and access lol. Great design and kit though, best we've had in a while.
Though I do wish her wild magic didn't spell out "YOLO" 😩
@@sammy3212321 I also wish her wild magic was actually wild. I know it makes sense to give the player a chance to plan out an attack with it, but wild magic is magic that the user cannot fully control, and therefore spices up gameplay
@@notsurewhy3263 that doesnt exactly work in a competitive game, I'd rather not have an ability that I have to basically throw out and pray, it has to be telegraphed to both the player and and enemy or else it feels bad to fight

I think baba's escape Is one of the most fun escapes in the game. It has suck a cool but fluent feel to it

It was an interesting coincidence that, a month or so ago, I was actually looking into the Baba Yaga lore for a short story I'm composing... who knew she was able to come here to Smite, and with her Chicken House nonetheless XD

I just hope for god they fixed the ultimate bug. When you enter the cabin sometimes i wasn't able to shoot those fireballs ._.
Szuna Loneheart Not as bad as a bug I encountered today, Sometimes cancelling your two with an already stored potion glitches your two and making you unable to throw either potion. Completely getting rid of the ability entirely I found no fix throughout the game and went the entire game with only 1 3 and ult

@@kylewhite6014 sadly they didn't solve the Ultimate bug so far i know. had to deal with it yesterday a few times - makes your ultimate just to get a shield and the initial damage from the house itself, fireballs still wasn't shootable and idk how this could happen. i didn't even could jump when i had this issue and the only solution is to die..

I miss hearing the lore part of these reveals. But then again, I want to hear about Baba Yaga's lore from those who actually grew up with those stories.

The servers also just suck, and with quarantine going on there’s also a large number of players returning to smite or trying it for the first time so the servers are also stressed
I thought I was the only one... Recently lag has been waaay more common and had really made trying to level up the battle pass a real chore since most games stutter

I had this problem for about 2 weeks and come to find out that some how my servers changed from America to another country and that was the reason i was lagging maybe check what servers your on.
