To be honest, I don’t care at all about the time signatures and tempos and the construction of the song if it is so Cool and massive that it just hits your brain right away and wants it many many times after. There aren't many songs like this on my playlist. This is an unambiguous masterpiece of heavy music. I've been listening to this band for over 15 years and have loved them for a long time, but with this song they amazed me again
Love Amorphis since the 90's and saw them live a few times, the concert ground felt like a space rocket got launched with Tomi's growls, was awesome, loved it 😎Tomi Joutsen does both vocals, they have many great songs to list but one to check out *On the Dark Waters* Thank you for the reaction and review. Song Meaning
a member of this band has confirmed that this song has to do with 'Kalevala' (which is a Finnish national epic compiled from old Finnish ballads, lyrical songs & incantations that's part of Finnish oral tradition). This song is about the hero Lemminkäinen dying and being sent to the river Tuonela (the underworld) & his mother going to fetch him back. His mother sews his body back in one piece and the sky god Ukko sends a bee from the heavens to blow life back into him. Also, their song 'Silent Waters' is about the same thing, but mainly from the mother's point of view.

Amorphis is an absolute amazing band, songs for all metal tastes...I was hoping for you to get to know it. They started in the 90's and "Black winter day" and "My Kantele" are great choices from that era. "Shades of grey" and "Majestic beast" are heavier songs, and the hole new two albums are amazing. There are 30 years of great music for you to dig in now!
I like that you get tougher on scoring. It was an issue, even lot of 8.0-8.9 songs we're in old score system.
I very much grew listening Amorphis, Sentenced and Nightwish in my youth. Possibly living in Finland hadsome effect on that too. 😂👀

Amorphis probably has to be my favorite current bands. I've been listening to them since around 1993 and have had the privilege of watching them change, progress, and evolve over the years. It's hard to paint them into one category. They are death metal, progressive, folk...with a few other elements thrown in for good measure. They are very "proggy," especially when it comes to time signatures,and you certainly picked up on that. I'm hoping you give them another listen or two. They have a huge catalog of great songs. I would recommend Silver Bride, Death of a King, Wrong Direction, The Moon, Amongst Stars (with Anneke VonGiersbergen on guest vocals), Sampo (my personal favorite)...and honestly too many more to list. Tomi Joutsen is the lead vocalist and performs both styles of singing, switching from one to the other flawlessly. Esa Holopnien's brilliant guitar work and unique pedal selections help to create Amorphis' signature sound. Every member of this band, though, contributes something that makes this band uniquely what it is. I appreciate your take on this song, especially going into the reaction blindly and from a musician's perspective. I agree with some things that you said and disagree on others, but music is subjective, and your take on this song is your own. Thank you for reacting to this. I hope you react to them again!
One of my fave bands since i ever heard them in 1992 i guess. Band had some poor times, but "The Bee" isn't one of them, it's a nice "hit" which you can hear by the constant modulation (how high can you modulate?).

I've been waiting for this song for a while. A bit disappointed by the reaction, not because of the score (like or don't like it is subjective), but mainly for the focus on the wrong things like tempo and keyboard, while the rest of the details are just perfect (guitars work for example, but the composition in general). I had the same feeling with the reaction of Ghost of Perdition from Opeth... A feedback for you David, better to spend more time on the analysis instead of the scoring system explanations. You lost so many details that deserve to be commented. 😢
I prefer no scoring system. It’s subjective and dumb.
