    as a resident of san francisco i've always liked how the arcade version of rush 2049 shows what district you're supposed to currently be driving through on the lower-left of the screen. also, despite everything about the city basically being completely changed and "futurized" in this game, rush 2049 actually does a much better job adhering to san francisco's actual geography, layout, and landmarks than the original san francisco rush did. go figure. also it's still pretty easy to find this game (the special edition version, even) in arcades here. (:

      I noticed that but didn’t even think it was real places lol. It must be cool to see stuff and recognize it. I often see things from LA on TV or in movies and think “I’ve been there!” And then realize I’ve only “been there” in GTA V hahaha. It’s nice to know the city embraced the game, that must be where they all are. I hope to buy Rush the Rock and Rush 2049 arcade cabs eventually.

      @@KillerArcadeGames i see both arcade machines on craigslist out here fairly often yeah. pretty sure atari games was still located here when they made each game in the series, though they were also a subsidiary of midway at that point.
      the whole rush series is still one of my favorites, and so underrepresented on youtube. i love that you keep playing them on your channel! i don't own a car (the irony of a racing game set in san francisco is most SF locals don't drive - it's a very public-transit-centric city like new york) - but sometime when i have time on my hands i've thought about either renting a car or just taking a scooter and driving / filming the closest real-life routes to the tracks in the first rush game and posting the recordings on youtube to compare the real city with the tracks in the game. the most physically accurate tracks in the the first SF rush / rush the rock are probably tracks 5 and the n64 version of track 6. for the latter, i never understood why in the rush the rock arcade version they added that overpass at land's end that is absolutely not there in real life - the n64 version is more accurate to actual SF. go figure.
      and yes, the names in the corner of the screen on rush 2049 are the actual districts of SF you're supposed to be driving through, and the track selection screen in that game is superimposed onto an actual map of the san francisco peninsula (as opposed to the original SF rush where it's more of an approximated / heavily modified map). i'm way too nerdy about this whole series and notice more of this stuff living here. ha.

      SF Resident here also. That`s what I always liked about this game also for the same reason. I just played it at the Santa Cruz Beach boardwalk 2 months ago only to find my skills have rusted. I like the SF setting, but its not my favorite.

    19 years old now, grew up playing this game at my local arcade and absolutely loved it because you could get 5 races for the same credits as 1 race on the modern machines. Was devastated to come back one day and find it replaced with some motorcycle game

      You got one! Congrats on it. I just saw someone near the Katy area on Facebook…maybe it’s the one you got. I’m doing my best to come up with a space for real arcades. Once I get that worked out, I’ll probably pick up several whenever I find the right deals.

    I remember playing this game in PS2 as a kid. I kinda like the PS2 version a little bit more because you could customize the car before you race; you could change the tires, handling, the engine, and there was even a Battle mode!

    You're missing out on some special objects that show up when you complete a 3-lap race that don't appear on 2-lap races. For example, in your very first race in this video, there's an extra ramp that appears past the finish line.
    You also unlocked a paint job after the first race that you didn't seem to notice. :p

      I don't know this game nearly as well at the others in the series. I may end up buying the full sized cab if I find one at the right price. For now, I'll just keep playing MAME. Maybe I need to bump the laps up to 3 to see all of this other stuff.

  • @Sleepkirby6472
    @Sleepkirby6472 Před rokem +2

    Funny enough the rock does NOT show up in the console ports. Probably because they could not be bothered with putting both the gold and silver coins on the track for a 3rd time after how much they had to put on the track in Rush 2 Extreme Racing USA. (Which was a N64 exclusive title)

    • @KillerArcadeGames
      @KillerArcadeGames  Před 2 lety +1

      That would be very cool. I think the problem with that could be down to the original code being lost. I can't say for sure about this series but I know some old classics original coding was long lost.

And only one of them enjoyed playing games or watching me doing it. Sadly, now i'm single, but i'am still playing NFS Underground. • @KillerArcadeGames
      @KillerArcadeGames  Před 2 lety +1

      I'd consider paying $1200 for a perfectly emulated SF Rush collection with force feedback. It would need to have a bigger screen though and it has to be a decent sit down cab. People would have a fit over the price but if they can start really replicating the look and feel of sit down racing cabinets, it would be worth it. I have a real Hydro Thunder cab and its massive! I have to leave it in my garage. If I had smaller versions of it that I could lug up stairs, I'd be willing to spend the money on it. Arcade1Up seems to be heading that direction more with every release but there's still stuck with those 17'' monitors and cheap controls.

      I actually played it after this comment came in. I still have my Dreamcast hooked up. Its not nearly as good as I remember it. @@KillerArcadeGames thanks for the reply! I only played the Dreamcast version, never the arcade… But when I watched your San Francisco 2049 arcade recording on my tv, it looked quite similar to the Dreamcast. But I guess CZcams also makes things less pretty. I did notice the engine sounds on the arcade are much nicer than on the Dreamcast. will try to find a Mame version, if I can buy a PC!
      Will it run on older second hand PC models as well or do you need a really powerful one?
