  • Hello Folks.
Thanks for tuning in. In this video we investigate a noisy lifter, check valve lash, lifter pressure and more!
With flat tappet cams and lifters you have to be very selective and careful with how you build or repair the engine, which is why we left it be for now.
I didn't want to risk wiping out the cam with a new lifter and having to pull the front cover off again.
When it get's a full engine rebuild I will replace cam and lifters as a set... The right way!

Makes sense to leave it for sure, if not exhaust then run a higher octane fuel to see if tick at higher rpm improves, looking at the valves you might have some predestination due to cylinder carbon build up. I have ticking as well but only at idle and only when warmed up, enjoyed video so thanks for posting 👍

Yeah. I didn't want to risk wiping out the cam, so I'll deal with it until I can do a full rebuild.
I'll try running premium, but it sounds more like a tick than a ping.
Good point on the valves. I didn't think about this.
I also tried pining the exhaust back flow valve in the open position, but that was not the culprit.
Next would be to do manifold gasket's, but the bolts are rust welded on lol.
Again, would probably be better doing this on a stand versus having to drill and tap broken head bolts while the engine is still in the truck.
Your's might just be lifter bleed down? I have a 350 SBC that does this. It has a lifter tick for like 15 seconds until it builds up oil pressure.

Sounds like we will both end up with engines on stands lol good luck with yours and I look forward to any updates you may do ok 👍 @@Harry_Dawg.

They came off a Jeep FC. Bought them from a guy on the Fullsize Jeep Parts / Rigs for Sale Facebook group.
I actually prefer the Amber "Cat's Eye" lenses, but mine were cracked and I couldn't find a reasonably priced replacement set.

Sounds like manifold leak to me

That is what I'm hoping for at this point!
I was telling another fella, the exhaust manifold bolts are rust welded on, so I'm going to wait until I pull the engine to fix this.
Maybe I will use my stethoscope and poke around the manifold to confirm this is the source of the noise.
      Thanks for watching!
