it's her teeth, not her lips 😭 i also think it's a reference to ohaguro, the old japanese practice of painting your teeth black. some historians believe its purpose was to hide or mask one's emotions from the public. they did this along with plucking their brows and painting their faces white to appear like masks/dolls. (which adds to the symbolism of being silenced by society and how people treat women as dolls)
