KDE is by far the kings of customizing i love tinkering whit my look and feel it never ends.
Excellent introduction to the murky realms of KDE customisation. There is so much you can do in both functionality and visuals but it is quite intimidating when you first look at it.
Thanks so much for this. I've got so many wallpapers I've collected over the years I use the "slideshow" feature. Love seeing something different every few minutes.
You should add a medium blur effect to the theme. The amount of transparency on the theme sometimes makes it hard to see the menu on the background.
Default kde is beautiful enough for me
Such a great video! I've just returned to KDE after many years with XFCE, and a LOT has changed, especially the customisation. Your tutorial has made it so much easier - thank you.
Glad it was helpful!
For me personally kde is most familiar when it comes to using it and customizing it. Over the years many things changed in kde bringing much needed improvements. I like kde's insane customizability.
Thanks for the nice ideas and the simple explanation.
Normally I use XFCE but this video inspired me to give KDE Plasma another try, and so far its great. Thanks!
I've tried XFCE once after KDE, and people who use XFCE amaze me, how can you use such uncomfortable desktop? You are heroes.
Always wanted to know how you customize your Desktop. Great video!
Glad you liked it!
Great video Troy! Thanks for sharing it with us!💖👍😎JP
Thanks for the video. I think a part 2 of KDE customization like a pro with a docking app (plank / cairo/ latte) on the bottom and nice customized panel on top and maybe some other customization would be a valuable addition for those that want to customize even further but aren't too knowledgeable on other stuff they can do with KDE.
A KDE customization video series every week or maybe twice a week would be another good idea I suppose, since you have spent alot of time using KDE. I'm sure folks would appreciate you sharing your knowledge and tips of stuff that can be done. EVERYONE has different tastes, but you could further shows why KDE is much better and more customizable or functional than Micrsoft windows or Mac ever could be. JUST a thought. Loved the video!
Thank You, Knowledge is power.
Indeed it is!
WOW Great explanation. I love it. I will follow it on my master machine. And as always Greetings from Germany
Very good video, as always!
much appreciated man!!
Thanks Troy 👍
Excellent tutorial! Clear and concise!
Glad you liked it
I love how coustamizable KDE is. I used to used gnome everytime, but not anymore!
Great vid for beginners.
Very Kool desktop! 👏
I collect pics I like- and use them as a SLIDE SHOW in kde-- so it's always different.. and if I get gnome- will use Variety..
Troy, I wholeheartedly congratulate you on 15K! Bravo!
Thank you so much my friend, I remember meeting you at 214 subscribers. LOL. You have been there pretty much since the beginning with great advice and support. You will never know what that means to me. I hope you and your family are well and thank you again my friend.
I really love latte dock...
I think saw a brief glimpse of an anime girl in the splash screen list. I like that one :D
Very good video. I always hold back from customizing as I am unsure of how to revert them. I am looking for an easy way to reset all customizations and revert to the default settings. Is there an easy way to revert to the default, factory settings? Can you give a set of commands to execute and/or remove files or folders to revert to default? This way we can reset to default and start a new customization from scratch.
Quark is good splash screen. I use floating panel with reduced size. I had a bad experience installing ksmooth dock. Latte, Cairo, Plank are good but not new docks are there.
Great video! The floating panel is awesome but when you maximize a window it gets defloated is there a fix for that
THANKS-- I like this kind of video-- helps me do what I like- and don't know how... :)
I totally agree. I enjoy how to videos on KDE and Linux in general.
For wallpapers I highly recommend wallhaven which is the updated version of wallbase (for the old timers)
Good one.
great video
KDE = KREAT! KOOL! KOOD!
Kustomization
How do you get floating anel on KDE plasma 5.24? it doesn't have the option mentioned in the video?
What is the difference between Neon and Plasma?
I have had more fun customizing the hell out of my desktop than I have done anything else. I'm not used to being able to do that coming from windows
Great video!
Is it possible to enable sound effects like, windows open/close/minimize/maximize/restore, etc... as the old Kde 4.x series used to have?
I am actually going to be covering that in a video I am doing next week...
@@eBuzzCentral Cool! Hope it is not too difficult...
Thanks for your videos
Nice video! :) But 8:29 how do you get the "Configure Icons-only Task manager" option when you right click your Panel?
I am new to Linux and KDE! Just downloaded and install Kubuntu from KDE website a few days ago!
If you are talking about editing specific icons for applications you will want to right clip on the app launcher icon and select edit applications. Then do a search for the specific application and when it pops up, click on the icon and then you can change it. Once you select the icon you want be sure to save the changes before exiting.
@@eBuzzCentral thank you for your reply! :-)
Makes me want to switch to KDE from Xfce. Though I'm not sure if that'd be a good idea with just 4 gigs of RAM
kde and xfce are almost the same in ram consumption these days.
i run kde on my old 4 gb ram laptop, and honestly, its fine. its more about your usage, really (like not keeping 6 tabs open at all times)
How store exporte kde config
Great guide on how to customise the KDE desktop! There's so many themes, icons, wall papers you could spend days searching and trying out.
I gave the layan theme a go and don't mind it, but didn't like the hiding min/max buttons. So just went back to regular breeze for the windows decorations. There's some great KDE plasma splash screens out there too.
One thing you glossed over with the app launcher icon was you can add whatever icon you like if you hit browse. I'm currently using Manjaro, so downloaded a couple of different coloured manjaro style icons to compliment the theme I'm using.,
Thanks, but where is the "like a pro" part?
14 minutes about changing the wallpaper, icons and visual theme.
You didn't touch any of the actual advanced customizations that KDE allows the user to do.
I tried that EXLIGHT distro-- TWICE-- on VM and actual install-- and it would NOT boot past an entry screen- asking for name and password-- and I put what they had written in the instructions -- "user, live" and it would NOT accept it-- so I couldn't get any further.. looks good and I'd love to try it-- but can't. All the stuff goes by so fast when it's loading and is small and I can't see wht to do..
Bottom left, choose x11 instead of wayland
What can I do about that screen that comes up during BOOT that has the distro name and advance and couple choices- and it waits several seconds or I hit enter then it goes to the regular sign in screen with name /password.. ? Like an EXTRA screen that comes up first and waits.. can I get rid of that- so it goes directly to sign in??
@̇ THANKS-- just wanted to be sure I wasn't messing with the wrong thing.. :)
@@davidwayne9982 There is an app you can download called "grub-customizer". Just be careful when making changes if you do.
@@LiveLife378 THANKS- did that- and got the seconds on the screen down to zero- so it doesn't show.
This is great but naga naga.
this is a "Pro" desktop customization? too basic and ugly
