I love how this show is giving highlights on Mateo as a Filipino like the scene where they speak Tagalog.
Ezekiel Cerillo Mateo has been speaking tagalog for a bunch of scenes throughout the series, it was just highlighted when Jonah (A white guy) spoke tagalog too.

We have a word in the Philippines called "balimbing". Its when a person gets two-faced when they are asked about what they truly feel about a topic, towards something or someone. There are alot of traitors in the Philippines since the dawn of the Spaniards. Duterte is hated. Yet alot of people backout when they are threatened. Superstore is calling out personalities like Ethel Booba, Harry Roque and all other hypocrite celebs and politicians who dissed Duterte and took it back. This is common in the Philippines. I love how Mateo was supposedly a "straight Latin guy" but then they chose Nico and the story just switched to that angle. It particularly hit me during the 4th season finale and I'd get why he felt like he had to shut up later during this episode with what's going on in the Philippines today.

Mateo has that typical awkward contradiction moment with himself. Filipino-Americans tend to blend in or steer clear from a situation. Raise your hands. Instead of speaking out his opinion about the situation in his mother country he chose to remain silent. Simply put he didn't want to be judged or that he was just scared.
