Acting coach Anthony Montes introduces the Meisner Technique.
This Q&A is the third part of three videos of the same class, where are presented the history and principles of the Meisner Technique, as well as the basics of the repetition exercise.
Sanford Meisner was one of the greatest actors and acting teachers of all time. His technique is about listening and reacting truthfully, moment after unanticipated moment. It is used by most serious actors these days, as one of the fundamental approaches of this craft.
Anthony Montes is an award winning actor, writer and producer. He is also an acting coach who studied Sanford Meisner's acting technique (at Playhouse West) and the Strasberg Method (at the Actors Studio).
Among his teachers were Sandy Meisner, Charlie Laughton (Al Pacino's friend and coach), Bill Alderson, Susan Peretz, Barbara Bain, Bob Carnegie and Shelley Winters. He has been teaching in many places around the world, including James Franco's Studio 4 in the recent years.

    WHO AM I
🤓 I'm Octave, a former cognitive science student and musician living in Paris. I got back into acting to improve my stage performance when I was singing at Open Mics, and ended up creating an acting school around my research (Paris Meisner Studio). I also studied different approaches of therapy and coaching, especially NLP and ericksonian hypnosis in which I am fully certified, and now in a long Gestalt therapy training. I got into film production firstly to document the work we were doing at the school and to produce students scenes. I have now just produced and co-directed our first short movie which will be out in the summer 2022. I do photography as a hobby and to practice composition and colour correction.
    PARIS MEISNER STUDIO
🏫 This is our acting school & research center in Paris. I developed it over the years, at first in order to train for free, and fly acting teachers (Meisner technique in particular) from all over the world to bring quality training where we were. It now hosts an original research program called "Meisner & systemic coaching" that mixes Meisner approaches and other acting techniques with tools from therapy, coaching, meditation, and scriptwriting and production principles.

When I was in acting school the teachers said we were brave and courageous...and they were so proud of us because we were so brave.....and they felt blessed to have us in the class.
When the course was finished the combination for the locks was changed and our access was over...

I guess its part of the plot haha. Everyone can act if they can mimick an emotion no need for lessons. Just practice

I was overwhelmed with running my acting school in Paris (Paris Meisner Studio) and getting into film production.
But new videos are coming soon, and more regularly.
Hopefully first one in 2-3 weeks max.

Can anyone help me out? I understand that the Meisner Technique helps you build your listening ability so you don't think and speak but listen and speak, but how will we remember our lines if we are listening to our co-actors speak?

    • @thenameisalexia6209
      @thenameisalexia6209 Před 2 lety +2

I just recently started studying this method and, for what I understand, the getting out of our heads to listen to our co-actors and the memorizing our lines should work together.
One of the components of this method is emotional preparation, when we analyze our characters backgrounds and the emotional spectrum that they're experiencing in their stories, in the particular scene.
When I think about it, memorizing would be the first step, then bringing in the emotions, studying this spectrum and then letting go; because when we really understand our character and know what they have to say by heart, it comes naturally, we don't have to think about it; only then we can get out of our heads and focus on the moment.
That's what I'm getting from this method so far; or at least is the way it's been working better for me!
Honestly, as actors we should take what resonates and leave what doesn't. Remember not every method works for everyone, we need to find what works for ourselves!
      I hope this helps!
