    (I'm a beginning bassist, so please understand that this question may be kinda dumb) What kind of tuning are you in?

      Hope Ezell The tuning is called "solo tuning," which is a whole step higher than the regular "orchestral tuning" (i.e. E A D G becomes F# B E A).
      To tune a whole step higher, you will need strings that are designed to be tuned to those pitches, so I do not recommend tuning the strings you have up to this tuning. Doing so may break strings and/or damage your bass. Just in case you were thinking of doing that, because the thought crossed my mind when I was starting out. XD
