Monitoring can make or break a performance, and high-quality monitoring often comes with a high price tag. In-ear monitoring has taken the performing world by storm, but the cost to supply a band with stereo in-ear mixes can be astronomical... and that's where this beauty comes in!
The Behringer P1 solves many issues and is an incredibly useful tool in my kit. It not only can supply a high-quality, stereo monitor mix to a performer, but it does so at a fraction of the price of a good wireless in-ear unit like my (also amazing) Shure PSM 900. True- this is a wired connection, but do you always need wireless? Sometimes it may be worth having less freedom on stage to forgo the hassles of wireless. Plus, at such a low price, its also a handy back-up if wireless ever goes down.

23 seconds into this video clip I saw you were right.
I have put this on my list off things to buy the next couple of months
thanks for the detailed description and real-world scenarios. Great vid.
Thanks!
A step up from this IMO is the solution by Jump Audio. Similar in principle buy allows you to transmit both guitar and a stereo mix in one cable. Much more practical for using as a belt pack!
We have the ME1 mixers at church. I’ve blended my headphone out from my headrush prime and me so I can hear the much better quality sound of my guitar in with the front of house mix, which really crushes my tone. I used a simple y mini cable route to my in ears. I can vary the mix by adjusting my channel down on the ME1 mixer.
Sounds like a good set up!
Great video. I was looking into this option and tour video andwwred all of my questions. Ny gial is to take the wedge XLR and put it into the P1 for better audio and control.
I apologize for all of the spelling mistakes. I should proofread from now on.
I use the Donner equivalent. It has combo jack stereo ins. And it’s rechargeable via usb c. Scott Uhl has a video comparing the two.
Your channel its amazing feel me 2001 vibe when im born in 2001 in 18 april i think its a sign i love USA and pop rock music i 🌟⭐🎸🎸🤟🤟🌟⭐🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸⭐🌟🌟😊😊
I use a Behringer Mix2USB. It's a monitor mixer (multiple ins and outs) and has a built in headphone amp. Great stuff too.
I can’t find that product (Mix2USB). Could you please send a link?
Thanks
Sorry it’s monitor2usb
Thanks but you completely forgot how to connect it to the sound mixer and I'm really struggling here.
All you need to do is run a line or (2 if stereo) from an Aux Out into the inputs of the P1
Great informative info on the P1. Thanks. What about the P2? What would be the pros and cons of using the P2 instead?
Pros of the P2 is the smaller size easier for wearing on a belt. However, the P2 is either mono balanced or stereo unbalanced where the P1 utilizes balanced audio connections for both mono and stereo applications. For that reason I prefer the P1
@@mathew_dale P2 also takes up less ports/slots and is cheaper. I will probably try both. Thanks.
Hey. Thanks for this review.
I have a question. Will this work with plugging effects pedals directly into it for use without a mixer in between? Or it needs an amplified signal from a mixer preamp beforehand?
Really depends on the pedal output. If the pedal you are using is sending line level (like an HX Stomp or other modeler can) then plugging straight in works great. If it's sending instrument level it might be a bit too quiet but worth a shot.
No 1/4" input makes it a no go for me.
But can you plug a stage mic directly into one of the inputs or would you need a separate preamp to get line level?
Yes if you wanted to plug a mic into it directly you would need a preamp. What would the purpose be though? There might be a better way.
Nice video! Question, if I put a stereo monitor signal in one of the XLR inputs (for instance with a jack adapter) will I still have a mono sound?
Yes, if you are only using one input, the sound will be mono, and using a jack adapter might cancel some of the signal (phase canceling with balanced audio). A better option would be a headphone to XLR stereo breakout seen here... www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/HMX006Y--hosa-hmx-006y-pro-stereo-breakout-rean-3.5-mm-trs-to-dual-xlr3m-6-ft?mrkgadid=&mrkgcl=28&mrkgen=gpla&mrkgbflag=1&mrkgcat=drums&percussion&acctid=21700000001645388&dskeywordid=&lid=58700008695999512&dsproductgroupid=&product_id=HMX006Y&prodctry=US&prodlang=en&channel=online&storeid=&device=c&network=x&matchtype=&adpos=largenumber&locationid=9022843&creative=&targetid=&campaignid=21161059670&awsearchcpc=&gad_source=1&gclid=CjwKCAjw1emzBhB8EiwAHwZZxYr7EYgRNFAuz2W-Bhhl8X_Ej8b0Bc-UROP9AXW30m0NIQ2krerx_hoC_2QQAvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds
@@mathew_dale Thanks! I’m currently considering the LD Systems HPA 1 though, as it has an additional aux-in (mini jack) for my metronome app.
Hey! Mathew, I'm a solo gig live singer and I would like to know what do you think about this Behringer P1 in comparison with the Behringer P2?
I prefer the P1. It's nice that the P2 is more compact, but you can only run a mono, balanced line in, or a headphone (unbalanced) stereo line in. the P1 has balanced mono or stereo ins. Yes, it's a bit bigger, but has better I/O and ( I think) is a bit more robust.
Is the P1 able to be used in a daisy chain config like monitors (wedges) can?
No, it's really only meant for one set of in-ears or headphones from an aux send.
@@mathew_daleso if your using a monitor out port of the bands mix, how does everyone get a feed? (Mixer?)
@@marktime61 Monitor out on mixers generally is used for a pair of speakers at the FOH desk for the solo bus and PFL, and not meant for performers "monitors." Wedge monitors or in-ear monitors for performers are usually supplied with an aux output with a separate mix to each performer. The number of unique aux mixes limited to how many axes your board has. The P1 is used to replace a wedge speaker or a wireless in-ear unit at a fraction of the cost while providing either a mono or stereo mix to a performer's ears. What kind of mixer are you using and what are you looking to accomplish?
@@mathew_dale Thanks Mathew, just trying to understand the use case for these in ear monitors. In a professional setup (which we are not) I understand wireless in ear monitors or stage floor mounted monitors would be the general approach. We are a bunch of old timers who have got together with limited budget. Guitarists have their own Small Amps and we have just go an old Yamaha PA which has c. 10 channels ( 4 Mic/Line, others are Line level). Often I (drummer) can hear the mix well especially bass. So I was wondering how/where to connect this device for best use. Also if other s had one (each) how this would be connected to a simple set up like ours. We have no fancy mixing console yet and have tried one floor monitor but dont have space or the budget for one each. This may be an affordable device IF it can be connected on mass (5 or 6 people). Nowhere on the websites or CZcams videos does anyone show how this device is cabled up - Thanks
@@marktime61 The P1 wouldn't really work in your scenario. The Yamaha 10 ch. mixer doesn't have any aux outs (only the mains, and I'm assuming the "monitor" outs copy the mains). A better option for your set up would be a headphone amp with multiple outs like the Behringer 8 ch. Connect the "monitor outs" to the "main in" on the headphone amp and you have stereo in-ears for up to 8 people mixed off the mains from the mixer. I'll link to it below...
