    Best and most powerful twin cylinder a “Double Lunger” John Deere ever produced for its time! And came with a 72” mower Deck!

    • @WorkshopRebuild
      @WorkshopRebuild  Před 22 dny

      Yes it was the super garden tractor from back in the day and the 72" mower deck would've been crazy to mount on this thing. Almost a little bit overkill for 20hp considering, most of the power was being used to power the rear end...

      That's awesome!! Even though these tractors are about 45 years old now, they can get still get a lot of work done. If you are doing a full rebuild or if you just want to get it running again that's up to you. Either way enjoy the process and if you ever have questions, feel free to reach out. Regards Andreas

    Cleanest John Deere 400 I’ve seen!👍🏼 I recently purchased one myself too in hopes of restoring it as well. Your videos will definitely help a lot.

      Thank you Gerardo! It took quite some time to get to this point, but it's well worth it. I'm glad to hear you saved a John Deere 400 and if you have the opportunity to restore it, you will have a bunch of fun. These tractors are very neat. I hope they do and if you ever have any questions, let me know. Best regards

      Thanks a lot, Bryan! That's exactly what I wanted to do. I believe this way the John Deere 400 will last a couple years longer. Hopefully, it can live to see 100years! Best regards

      @WorkshopRebuild  Před 2 lety

      Thank you very much! You have a really nice ongoing restoration! I've never seen a 322 in person, but they sure are nice machines on paper! I hope you enjoy your restoration process and have fun with it once it's finished. That would be a great thing to do, as the JD400's are getting a bit more rare even though they made a few examples. Best regards

      Thanks a lot Dave! I'm glad I'm not the only one. I initially purchased one of the for my 317 and thought it was great. So the JD300 and 400 have the same one now. Maybe I'll add the Deere sticker on the seat pan in the future. Best regards

    How about a same period matching trailer for your 400? Do you have that in mind as a restoration project?

    • @WorkshopRebuild
      @WorkshopRebuild  Před 2 lety

      A trailer to match this JD400 would be an awesome and at the same time a very fun project! To be honest, I haven't seen many John Deere items for sale lately, maybe since it's cold. I will be keeping my eyes open if I find a good deal on something green! My plan is to bring in two rototillers and work on them. One will be for the 300 Series and the other one is for the JD400. I am open to working on anything and I do have some other projects lined up, but I cannot reveal them just yet. Best regards

    Why didn’t your repaint / replace the high & low knob and the hydrostatic lever knob?

    • @WorkshopRebuild
      @WorkshopRebuild  Před 11 měsíci +1

      The knobs were repainted off-camera and I also added the rear fender pan sticker later on, as I did not have it in time for this video. Good eye!

    Can you add the model of the seat?

    • @WorkshopRebuild
      @WorkshopRebuild  Před 2 lety

      I just checked the box it came in and it's a BECO universal farm tractor seat (yellow). Here is a website where I was going to purchase one, as they ship throughout Canada and they have the exact same one: bit.ly/3KQmVbM Luckily I was able to find one locally, so I did not bother to buy it online. I hope this helps. Best regards

    absolute class,in my 400 the left cylinder isn’t firing what should i do ?

    • @WorkshopRebuild
      @WorkshopRebuild  Před 2 lety +1

      Hello Sonny, check these components from first to last:
      1) Sparkplug (build-up, corrosion, gap, tip)
      2) Sparkplug wire (check continuity, 10'000-12'000 OHM per foot of wire)
      3) Ignition coil (check both leads up to sparkplug wires, clean with scotch brite if dirty)
      4) Ignition coil (check 12V coming into ignition coil, usually red or orange wire)
      5) Points (check points gap, clean with fine emery cloth/ sandpaper)
      I hope this helps and let me know if it did!! Best Regards -Andreas

    Looks great. I have one and would really like to do this. This series has been great. Where did you get the seat?

    • @WorkshopRebuild
      @WorkshopRebuild  Před 2 lety

      Thank you JJ! If you have some time and patience you will be able to restore your JD400. I will have an upcoming video about the Cost- Breakdown and Time-Breakdown. This will give you a better insight on how much I actually spent and how long it took me to get to this point. This is a nut & bolt restoration, but in some cases this is not needed! I'm glad you enjoyed this series and I hope you were able to get a better view on this tractor. The seat was purchased at Princess Auto (Canadian Harbor Freight) and the seat brand is BECO - High Deluxe Seat (at least that what is says on the box). Best regards

    @hunter7476 Před 2 lety +1

    You got any attachments for this if
    You do keep them they are very rare and almost non existent because this tractor doesn’t share attachments with any other model

    • @WorkshopRebuild
      @WorkshopRebuild  Před 2 lety

      Yes, a 48" rear mount rototiller. It is shaft driven by the PTO conversion kit and it hooks up to the 3 point hitch in the back. That is correct, I keep my eyes open for attachments but they aren't always for sale! Best regards

    • @hunter7476
      @hunter7476 Před 2 lety +1

      @@WorkshopRebuild nice I’m surprised rototiller for those are hard to come by it’s handy for gardening I’d like to buy an old garden tractor with one in the future

    • @WorkshopRebuild
      @WorkshopRebuild  Před 2 lety

      @@hunter7476 I haven't seen one yet for sale, so they must be! It almost looks too big for the machine as it's 48" and it sticks far out back. I wonder if I need counter-weights up front when it's mounted to the tractor...but I'll see once it's on the tractor. Maybe you can find one for your 318, there should be enough of them around and theu are usually 40-42" wide, which is very nice for a garden.
