This technically happends in Half-Life: Source as well. Because unlike Half-Life. Security guard can't flinch while shooting. So instead of playing flinch. It plays shooting animation instead each time he's injured.
By using command to change health. It's possible to see them shoot pistol faster than a SMG as long he's constantly taking injuries while attacking. (they never reload after all in either HL or HLS)
