Festive 500 Cycling Computer Road Test // 8 Days // 8 GPS Units Tested
VloĆŸit
- Äas pĆidĂĄn 15. 06. 2024
- For the recent Festive 500 challenge (500kms in 8 days from Christmas Eve to the last day of the year) I took the opportunity to use a different cycling computer / GPS / head unit for each ride. I thought this would be a good way for me to spend more time with each unit to get my head around the ins and outs / the pros and cons.
The units I'll be talking about in this video are:

Dude from that thumbnail I thought you had them all on at the same time.. well done, I'm still laughing
hahaha me too!
Thank you for the great reviews. In 2018 , I upgraded my Edge 25 for a Edge 130. Rode all last year (2019) and just loved the little unit. I upgraded, because I needed a head unit for a power meter. The bread crumb navigation is no issue for me. It was a toss up, whether I'd get the Edge 520 or 130, but I found the Edge 130 on sale at Christmas (2018), 40% off, and grabbed it. I really like the way I can customize the screens, too. KB
Thanks for a great video, very informative,my thoughts are with you for what is happening to your beautiful country
Wow, awesome comprehensive review of so many contemporary units! Nice!
Awesome video, thank you! I have recently purchased the Garmin Edge 830 which I really like.
Just commenting to say that Shane is a bloody legend
Shopping for a unit and was thinking about the Garmin 130. Was happy you enjoyed the unit.
Great review mate well done, Iâm very happy with with my Wahoo Elemnt Bolt it has been very reliable and very easy to use
Now THIS is a comparison! Good job Lama!
Got a Hammerhead Karoo over Christmas and absolutely love it. Features are still a little limited and lacking behind Garmins and Wahoos, but operationally wise itâs miles and miles ahead. Love it and navigation is super cool and easy to use!
I bought the bryton 420 yesterday and was a bit anxious going into your Video. But now I am really happy you have put it on the third place :D
I always love your backdrops when doing reviews like this. :)
Great video, perfect for those of us shopping for a new head unit!
I was hoping you used all 8 on the same ride to address any discrepancies in the data recording.
I'm so jealous about the weather you could enjoy on your Festive500 :D
Epic effort using all them!!
Hi Katie đŽđ»ââïž
Great rundown of devices Lama!
I bought the Hammerhead Karoo for itâs iPhone fast screen and processor. I love the device and the after sales support you get from the Hammerhead team. I donât miss the beeps myself but I know thereâs a feature to connect your tethered phone over WiFi for turn by turn audio prompts. I would agree that this is second best to an integrated speaker for those who need it. It remains a stunning device in my book. đ
Great comparison of all those units. Would have loved to see a summary matrix of features compared :) Cheers
Love my Karoo, incredible unit that is so user friendly and stable. Navigation is stellar. Canât beat the screen. Could not recommend enough. FYI, there is a Karoo 2 coming out soon, that will probably correct the downsides Shane mentioned. Worth the wait if you can, as the Karoo will be hard to beat if it corrects a number of those things.
Clay Slocum do you work for Hammerhead? You comment so positively on all cycling videos in favor of Karoo.
Being about the same age as your dad (or so I would guess), I would say the biggest thing the head units need is a "Geezer Mode". This is where the fonts are big enough to be read with out reading glasses. It is bade enough getting slower and weaker, but when you have to get readers in your sunglasses so you can read the head units just hurts.
The Wahoo units win here (Elemnt/ROAM). MASSIVE fonts and easy resize with the side buttons.
I bought the hammerhead for this very reason - i wss very happy using my smartphone and connecting my sensors to strava but, as you likely know, they pulled that ability from their mobile app. Hammerhead really heavy? Please give me a break!
@@mikewells1070 I stand by the claim the Hammerhead is heavy, because it is. That's fact. :) Relative to every other head unit out there it's a hippo. đŠ(that's opinion) ;)
Hi Shane - i am not disputing it is heavier- just that in the scheme of things (i.e. overall bike weight) who cares! We are talking what - 50 grams?!
I got to be honest we all love cycling videos this is just what I need to get it going the blood I love it. I always watch these before I go out and get my body moving. I love when I always watch one of these, and then put up my heavy playlist I love like Delta Parole and then I just go haaaaard!!!! Tactic hasnt let me down yet.
Your ears are part of your situational awareness safety system.
I went bike touring this summer and brought my Wahoo Roam, and a Wahoo Elemnt. I learned the hard way that it was a BAD IDEA. There is hardly any point in having a backup unit if it's from the same brand as the main unit. During the tour, Wahoo sent out updates that wiped out the maps, and updates that made them crash a lot. None of which is fun when you're in a foreign country and the head unit is your map, and of course, when they sent out the bad updates to the Roam, they sent the same update to the Elemnt, which left me somewhere in the German countryside with two useless units. I'm pretty sure this wouldn't have happened if I had brought units from different brands...
Anyway, thanks for the test, it sounds like I'll take a close look at the successor to the 1030, whenever that shows up!
Casio watch from the 90's - Brilliant haha!
They were great, and practical. Also 20 years ago.
@@gplama You mean more like 30 years ago :D But yeah, those Casio watches are legendary.
Hey, dont snark my Casio from 20 years ago, still working
One thing i would like to know is the orientation of the screen polarizer. My Wahoo Bolt got a 45 degree screen polarizer and so it darkens with polarized sunglasses. How are the others?
Interesting - currently have an Edge 520 and it's never let me down; however I've wondered about a budget unit for a back up. The 130 looks tempting, as does the Wahoo Elemnt Mini unit.
As for the Casio watches - they're still making them........
Thanks Shane! My 820's battery is only good for 2 and a bit hours these days so I'm looking for a cheap replacement to cover those longer rides. Bryton 420 is 'looking' like a good option. đ
I had the same problem with the Garmin 820 (in addition to many more problems with the touchscreen and routing). I replaced it with a Wahoo Elemnt which has been much much bettter...
Bryton for long tour is the best. I have garmin 820 and 1000 but always use bryton for long trips
What about Cateye Padrone smart plus? Is this a good one to put on the bike?
We carry the Hammerhead Karoos at Naples Cyclery!
I recently bought the Edge 130, very happy
im thinking of buying it too
Loves mine! đ
im gonna get one to. I only need it for speed and power so i dont see why paying loads for a bigger one i can just use my phone if i get lost :)
Me too
Love mine
Touchscreen only units are a show stopper for anyone in cold climates. Full gloves require buttons. I also feel full colour backlit screens are overkill, that's what makes some of these units heavy - fitting in a battery that can run a huge screen for 8 hours+
Previously had Edge 820 and now the Karoo. It does everything better then the Garmin and the navigation is superior to any other unit. And that why I use such a device. Loving it.
Ik ben van een Garmin Edge 1000 overgeschakeld naar de Karoo en ik ga nooooooooooooit meer terug naar Garmin.
I absolutely agree! Had a 820 as well, worst garmin device ever.
@@kaatdebusscher4522 ik wacht nog even op de karoo2
I use the Bryton on my Gravel Back for long trips so I don't have to even think about re-charging (I have done several 20+ hours rides with no issues with this one), plus I don't look at it for much other than to see how far I have gone/or have to go! I use my Wahoo Element on all the other bikes as I want to see more data without having to slow down so I can squint to see those small #'s also the other bike rides are never > 12 hours... So for me the Element has been fine charge wise on those!
Yes Bryton for long tour is the best
I have a Bryton Rider 330 and I'm quite happy with it.
The Best of all is ever the Wahoo Elment ROAM
the one and ONLY
Shane, how many Km's does that farm field road go? Looks like a decent stretch of road and nice pavement! Happy New Year! Thanks for the video wahoo all the way!
There's 1000s of kms of long straight farm roads around here. It's not bad. :)
Hi Shane, which Go Pro do you use to record your riding video? Thanks, nice videos, keep up the good work! ;)
The HERO 8 Black for this video.
About the Hammerhead: side load (for example) Droid Watch for the BT connectivity with the phone for data/messages. And use a BT headset (bone conduction) for the alerts.
i've been using the Garmin 130 for my daily commutes for the last year. Great and dependable unit. Cold sucks battery life, though.
It's a general problem with any small electronics and you can't really do anything about this. I have small light that can work for 3h in summer but if it's below 5C, 30min is max working time
Good to hear battery life on the 130 is likely to improve for summer. The unit died on a recent ride, I thought it was half my fault as I'm used to having watches that I only wear for workouts lasting a long time. The other half I was fearing the 9 month old 130 was defective or maybe all are deficient. Summertime I need it to last at least 5.5 hours.
I chuckled at the Zoolander reference :)
Is this a head unit for ants?
I currently have a garmin edge 1000,, would you recommend the 830 garmin or Bryton unit ? Happy New Year from Colombia
Hi Shane, cool video! Short question - do you use the K-Edge XL with both 830 and 1000? Does the 830 look ok on the XL or does it stick too far out up front?
Yep, it sticks out a little further. No issue for me.
That Garmin 130 is the baby yoda of units
Oh that deserves a photoshop of some kind!
For most recreational cyclists, it is all you will ever need.
I have a wahoo element roam. I like it a lot. But recently I bought a cicliq fly12 camera and it interfere with wahoo gps precision. Pretty annoying.
I donât know why Wahoo just doesnât make their units Garming mount compatible. The Garmin mount is like the GoPro mount. The stand...
Its easy to adjust the Garmin mount to fit Wahoo - turn through 90 degrees and shave off 2mm of the inner ring
Due to injury (running ,I am not a legend )I have started cycling ,spent ÂŁ500 Sterling last year on bike and never used ,but have done now and absolutely love it ,it so cool ,have got undulating country roads next to me /can just about do 12 mile hour for two hours ,there are no issues ie no sore back or neck ,I think I will start x training ,I am trying to run marathon under 4 hours when 60 yrs ,8 yrs training to go any tips especially relating to endurance woukd be aporeciated
Wicked Pissah Cool đ
Well that's one way to get a group ride in.
username similar, just saying.
Thumbs up just for that awesome thumbnail showing all those head units on at once :) unless you photo shopped them in ;) -- Now to actually watch the video :)
They were all mounted on the bike with mounts. That was fully rideable. (It was a pain to find all the o-rings too!) :)
So glad I didn't jump at the Karoo. I Looked good on face value but yeah absolute show stopper with no alerts.
The Sigma looked good when it came out but want easy to get your hands on (hate shopping online) however now I have a Radar strong pass.
Garmins are reliable, not much to discuss there that hasn't been discussed other than turn off the nutrition crap.
Wahoo just works but you lose some analytic capabilities. I run WKO5 to get around that.
Pioneer no idea but seems to be basically a Luzern(sic).
Garmin 130 that's just adorable.
Garmin 1030 that daddy. Dat Weight though. Saw a dude doing loops of the road nats KOM course with one and the battery pack. Good for weight training.
Bryton is your go to for ultra endurance stuff. Sick battery life off memory.
I would love to be on a ride and see Shane or dc đ§ pull up on a bike with 8 head units
The sound from all the auto-pause beeps would be deafening!
The Sigma ROX 12 lacks an absolutely indispensable feature: support for street numbers!
The Centre for ANT+ made me guffaw.
How far we've come from the days of wrapping a computer sensor wire around your front brake cable and measuring your tire's circumference...
Cup & Cone haha, I still use that on my commuter, which depressingly is my most ridden bike!
I still do
hi there, great video !! btw, im considering between edge 1030 and 830,can u tell me more bout these two cycling computer?what r d main difference between them?and which one u will recommand?which modal have a faster processor? thanks in advance :)
The sales pitch is up to Garmin. Just quickly - The 1030 is an older unit than the 830.
Karoo full review soon? Asking for a friend. Curious your overall thoughts. I burned through two units before I sold the third on Ebay, Water ingress on their screens, it as real issue. TEARS! Converted to Wahoo and I haven't looked back. Thanks for the content as always.
Running both the Wahoo Elemnt Roam and the Garmin Edge 830.
Love some of the training metrics on the Garmin however it tries to do too much and is a chore to set up but does seem to allow for better post ride analysis. Some reason don't hate the Connect ststem. The Wahoo Elemnt Roam solid easy to set up just seems to work. The rerouting is the best I've seen this far too.i just wish for the day wahoo are able to upload to Garmin Connect. Hate file management.
New bike with the SRAM Force AXS eTap DZero is gonna be running the wahoo for sure.
Old bike with the Fav Assiomas can roll with the Garmin for those cycling dynamics which wahoo support is not ideal.
All I know when the new bike arrives the kickr , the Assiomas and the quarq dzero are going through a llama lab test.
Wahoo was able to upload to Garmin - but Garmin closed it - so it's Garmin fault (Others say a masterstroke from Garmin)
@@macb.631 yeah I know wahoo are pretty agnostic. I can see garmins standpoint though. Why should we house your files when you didn't buy our device.
My pick (as of today) would be the Hammerhead Karoo 2, followed by the Absolute Cycling One and the older Karoo, then probably a tie between the Garmin 1030 and the best of Mio, then a tie between the Jespr J-2, the Sigma 12 ROX, Bryton 750 T, the Trimm One, etc. Also of interest are devices like the Beeline, SmartHalo 2, etc.
Reports of high battery drain in the K2 is concerning.
@@gplama A shame... I hope, they resolve the issue in the imminent firmware update.
So, with 8 head units, is that the Festive 4000?
I love my Edge 130
Have you tested Ride With GPS app on a phone?
Used it on my iPhone for years and itâs great. Secured with a Quad Lock.
Over 11 hours on my iPhone 11. Phone has a far better screen than any bike specific unit. Connects to wahoo HRM and Stages power meter. Itâs waterproof. Get turn by turn directions. Etc
Rides sync with Strava (new feature from Dec).
And I always carry my phone so Iâm saving weight from not carry a bike specific unit too.
No idea if it supports Di2 though.
Not recently. Iâll load up the latest version and take it for a spin!
Great Vid as always Shane.
I have edge 830 and cannot get text messages for the life of me!! Tried everything and still no good. So tempted to go back to a wahoo as they just work (I have Vectors and Varia hence the Garmin head unit). Have you had the same issues with text alerts on the 830? Any tips?
I assume you're on IOS 13 and have given the iPhone correct permissions to send messages over Bluetooth?
@@gplama Yep and Yep.
Have re set up the device a number of times (inc Garmin connect) and whilst the social media notifications work (as do calls), no text messages. Have contacted Garmin and that was next to useless. I think the issue might be with connection as the phone is quite often disconnected or disconnects when in my back pocket. Very frustrating but......It is Garmin!
@@glennsullivan7177 Argh. All I can offer then is "Hmmm. Damn it."....
getting lost is hard with so many devices :)
Wow !
Thanks for the nice comparison! Really good, because I'm looking for a GPS Cycling Computer with Navigation. My personal focus is the navigation. That's why I was considering the Garmin Edge 1030 and Sigma Rox unit... but you called it HUGH! So I did a quick research on google and found out, that the unit dimensions are almost the same like the Garmin Edge 1030! My question.... is it really that hugh? Can I trust the numbers I found? This is the Garmin 1030: 58 x 114 x 19. And this is the Sigma: 59 x 115 x 18.
Thanks for your help!
It's huge, yes. And with a huge form factor and small screen, it looks even bigger. Grab one in person if you can.
@@gplama Got it! Thanks again! I will try to make a side by side comparison.
Which K-edge mount is that? Looks super sleek with the Garmin130.
I use the combo mount and combo XL for the Garmins.
Not much mentioned about battery life. This is a area where computers such as the Garmin 1030 excel. Yes, they did have to make the screen less brilliant to achieve the long battery life but I don't find that a issue.
One 2hr ride isnât really enough to know about battery life. Something thatâs best left to more in-depth coverage when I do those.
Hello. Iâm doing high rpm interval sessions & Iâm regularly maxing out the 180rpm cadence limit of my Garmin 810. Is the Garmin 1030 capable of higher maximum achievable cadence, or was there another smart computer that had higher maximum cadence ?
Many thanks
Phil
I have no idea to be honest. 180 is in the stratosphere of cadence numbers... I'd need a motor to hit that to test it :)
Yap.. Using My old Xperia Z5 compact as a bike computer, smashes these devices in most categories, just Strava on it, no bullshit heređđ . (Don't forget the price difference)
Hi Shane, would the Garmin 530 be a good upgrade to my old 800, My 800 battery lasts about 3 hrs if I'm lucky, very slow to re charge etc, I don't currently have a power meter so only need HR, cadence, Maps all the other basic stuff etc, your thoughts would be very much appreciated, many thanks
The 530 isn't touchscreen.... but feature wise it's x10 times the unit than the 800 is.
Regarding Karoo, I believe the navigation/ routing is average at most. It does ok when you plan ahead on Dashboard (which is also average), but rerouting is just appalling, it is I believe mostly due to poor map updates. Also "point and ride" navigation on the device was the tipping point form me. No ride profile means you can't pick the type of surface to ride on, which means that it is all a lottery.
Yes, I know they release updates frequently, but for 400 Euro I want a complete device, not a beta version with a bunch of promises...
I haven't used mine properly yet for routing but I understand from others that is a strong point and the re-routing is excellent but as I said I have not tried it yet
A quick qu... the combined sensor thingy the Karoo does you list as a con... will anyone not âdeep divingâ data actually notice on their Strava/TP etc? (Not jumping ship from my Garmin 820 (even with its little weirdness every so often) any time soon for full transparency)
No. But... it's something that bugs me. Who knows what kind of analysis/tracking people want to do in the future. If the data isn't correctly recorded at the start, it's junked forever.
Listing device IDs could also be used as a security/owner tracker by services such as Strava too. Stolen devices could be blacklisted or tracked via device ID.
It's more a case of doing it right at the start to ensure the best use options/compatibility in the future.
I ride in heavy woods and my cell phone GPS is spotty. Does GPS on these things work better than a cell phone?
I love my bryton aero60t
For American viewers...took me a second or two to realize what Shane meant, but "Show Stopper" is equivalent to our expression, "Deal Breaker." Ironically, the expression "show stopper" in America has a positive connotation. As in something/someone did something so amazingly great that it "stopped the show" for prolonged applause.
buying the 130 tomorrow since my 3 years old 520's battery only lasting around 7 hours with only GPS and power sensor connected
If you're after longer battery life (>8-9hrs) the 130 won't help much. The 530 would be a better bet, although it is more expensive.
Shane Miller - GPLama I was reading about that too, seems the claimed battery life is far off to the real world testing result, I yet to get out to test it my own due to the stormy weather in Scotland at the moment. The size was the main selling point to me and I always carrying a power bank in long ride so it should not be too much of a problem to me as it is able to record data while charging.
when you try OMATA :)
I still havent found a real reason for not just using my phone. Battery life is decent enough for regular 1-3h rides, and for long(multi day) rides i carry a powerbank either way. The phone can do anything those headunits do, and most of the stuff (touch screen, route planing, ease of use, conectivity, etc) even much better. and nowadays, you can buy one that will comfortably work in the rain, too. and if you want/have to bring the phone anyways on top of the cycling computer, its even the lightest option, too. plus i dont have to stuff it anywhere.
Hardware maybe. Software, nope. There's no phone app that'll do anything close to what a dedicated GPS unit does. It's a challenge to even try.... look at Strava pulling out of the sensor support game recently. For general distance/time a phone will work.
@@gplama there are dozens of apps out that are higly customizable and will display any sensor you want, log them, show them graphicaly etc. - and a phones screen is big enough to show 9 or 12 tiles on the mainscreen and get anything from power to cadence and distance in one glance. you can even splitscreen with a navigation app.
it will not work 100% of the time out of the box and can be a bit of a fiddle, but for me it works fine and i much prefer the power, big display and responsiveness of the phone over the cycling computers.
if they would release one that doesnt feel like an archaic plastic toy i might switch for the convienience, but somehow they dont.
Which cycling computer will let you customize the race a segment page. So when your on a segment you can customize whats on the screen. REALLY WANT TO KNOW PLEASE HELP
Wahoo eco system of Garmin? I ride as a hobby, but like numbers and stats. I have wahoo cadance and speed sensors.
If you're throwing all your ride data up in to Strava, Training Peaks, Today's Plan, or even Trainer Road - The Garmin Connect offering loses a little value. Wahoo sensors work with everything - ANT+ / BLE.
are you using a 38 cm Bar or shorter btw?
I was wondering about this question all video.
38 on the TCR, yes.
38, same width as his shoulders.
@@Hunter_Bidens_Crackpipe_ not sure, but I use 38cms too, don't need wider. All these riders with aero wheels and helmets, yet 42cm bars...
i miss seeing the country vic roads.. now im stuck in texas :/
I would've thought Texas would have similar roads. Lance relocated to Colorado from Texas.
He probably rides more elsewhere, incl Co.
6:50 yeah, but most modern smartphones have hotspot functionality with it, so you can connect the Hammerhead using wifi. I've grown to use this very often as I have a Bryton 530, and I sync my rides using hotspot because it's SO MUCH faster than syncing with bluetooth.
Great video nonetheless. Thanks GP.
the other con with the hammerhead karoo is that it doesn't support structured training plans.
If it's a little chilly out you can cut those Garmin 130 battery life hours in half. Seriously. You can't ride a full century in the cold (with HR and cadence) and have a hope in heck of the Garmin 130 battery holding out for the entire ride (without battery backup)
With the Edge 130 not giving the full suite of power data, is the Rider 420 more of a successor to the trusty Edge500 for those that just want the numbers without the âfluffâ?
Hmmmm. Good question. The Rider 420 does show L/R balance on screen. It's a 'maybe' from me on this one. The 'edge' the Bryton units have are price and battery life.
Shane Miller - GPLama As well as L/R, the 420 also does NP, TSS, IF ... which is important for anyone who actually âusesâ their power meter.
I donât mind the Casio watch interface on a numbers-oriented head unit - the data is just there to help pace my ride and guide my training. The colours are all around đ
Would love to see a more in depth rundown of the unit... đđ»
Which unit is the best for Mountainbiking?
How do you side load apps on the Hammerhead Karoo?
Jump on the Karoo forums. They should have the details.
A much as my failing eyesight likes the look of the 1030 I just donât think I could go back to Garmin after having zero problems with my Bolt. Like the look of the Roam just not sure the screen is sufficiently any bigger than the Bolt. If Wahoo made something similar to the 1030 in size they could take my money.
Grab a hold of one if you can and check the size. The ROAM screen is pretty big.
Shane Miller - GPLama Yeah thatâs something I need to do to get a side by side comparison. If only there was a CZcamsr I knew that could do it for me........đđ
Your Roam buttons will likely fail soon.
Worth noting the Karoo supports Bluetooth speaker/headphones - so able to produce sound for radar and turn by turn. Not a speaker still ... but a step forward.
here's a link blog.hammerhead.io/audio-alerts-new-to-your-karoo-d1852b55571
Handy for those running on-bike BLE boom boxes. It's handy... but they really really need to rethink the hardware for v2.
I grabbed the Bryton Rider 320 and I am having some pixel ghosting issues. It is really noticeable when I am reading my power data. By ghosting, I mean the pixels are slow to switch on and off, so for a brief moment it has both the old data number and the new data number overlaid, so I just end up looking at a blur. Did you notice that on the unit you used?
I didn't notice this on the Bryton unit, no.
@@gplama thanks for the heads up and the great vid
Iâm a wahoo user now but one thing that I miss from using a Garmin unit is that it registers actual laps rather than counting laps in pre set time. Do you know if there is a way to se Wahoo to count laps when you arrive to your original start point of your ride?
I've not seen that as an option for my bolt. There is a big lap button, but I can see how an automatic lap function is much more useful
Thatâs the only thing I miss about having the garmin
No Bolt? The crowds are booing!!
Plenty of reviews, why does it need more?
@@MrBJPitt Why have two Garmin GPS in the test? Why have the Roam represent Wahoo? The Bolt is the best bang for the buck GPS on the market hands down. In fact, I have seen review videos of all these GPS units so why did Mr. Miller make the video in the first place? I want to see a video on how these units do in extreme weather? I had a friend's Bryton just fizzled out in 41 degree heat in Southern Australia. My Garmin 800's touchscreen went black in 38 degree heat in Japan. On the other end of the spectrum, my friends Stages head unit froze up in -3 degree weather. Show me that video please Mr. Miller.
@@kenmiller5106 because those are the new garmin units. Roam is the new wahoo, with better map abilities, what else do you need to know about the bolt that isn't already known????
Shane explains in the video that this was just a simple test to see what they are like in a simple ride. This is not a deep dive so I can't see why you are so bent out of shape....
And how is Shane going to make a video of him riding in - 3 degrees in a ballarat summer??? đ Geezus some people are never happy.
@@kenmiller5106 and as a bolt owner, I think the garmin 530 is best bang for buck anyway. I'd happily switch with anyone who'd take my bolt, even throw cash their way.
@@MrBJPitt Bent out of shape? You replied to my joke with a serious post in the first place, it seems you are the one who is bent out of shape. And that last comment must have been a joke. When people want to test things to see how they perform in the wind, do they wait for a windy day? NO, they go to a wind tunnel. I think he could perform a test to see if the connectivity or how touchscreens on the garmin 1030 do in a walk in freezer. My edge 800 always lagged when the temperature went under 5 degrees and my friend who has the 1030 says the same thing. And dude, you seem pretty uptight, go ride your bike and take a deep breath and come back when you are not so serious.
Lezyne computers are better then Bryton computers imo in terms of features. The only thing missing is the radar support but excellent value for money regardless.
Agree. Hoping Shane would have tested. Connects to my PowerTap pedals, auto sync to strava, turn by turn when connected to phone, etc for well under $150.
Interesting review thanks .... I currently have a Garmin 1000 - very poor battery life and overall just a sh!t unit - just can't trust it on long rides and using it for navigation, previously had a 800, failed twice warranty, the 1000 has failed once, warranty.
Won't be buying Garmin again and really don't see much that I'd buy as yet. Something I've noticed and would have been interesting in your test, elevation inconsistencies between units (and iphone, Android), as well as inconsistencies with segment times on Strava. Then you have the most dismal mapping on the Garmin units, and the hopeless navigation even on the 1000. And don't get me started on Heart Rate and the drop outs even with different units and new batteries. Just not good enough!
Is the GPS performance/accuracy of the Roam better than the Bolt? Iâve the Bolt and it really sucks in that aspect.
Never had an issue with either. Lots of big open sky views here though.
With the Bolt Iâve occasionally completely wrong slope and speed values and also the total distance does not match at all with the reality despite the speed sensor which measures the wheel rotation (I checked the correct circumference). My old Edge 705 was a lot more accurate... so, I really regret buying the Bolt.
Hi can you test the Mio cycle 605 head unit as no one has a proper test, thanks Alex
I had a Mio 605 and sold it a few days later. I now have a Sigma ROX11.0 which is a better device for the enthousiast. If cycling is your passion I don't recommend Mio.
@@indysbike3014 I've got a 505, not that good, battery in winter only last 2hrs.
Does the Roam & the Bolt use the same K-Edge mount puck?
It needs to be swapped out on the K-Edge, or you can use the adapter.
Shane Miller - GPLama More expense đ«I guess they arenât too much though.
Just bought a bike with a Quarq power meter and i want a budget friendly computer that will sync too and maximize the power meter...any recommendations?
That's a nice setup. Don't go too cheap and ruin that experience! :)
Don't understand the LAP Button on the Roam (2:26). Did a cyclist ever used this? At my first try with the Roam i thought it was "Page back" until i read the keys caption.
Lap = Extensively when training and doing intervals. The Edge units have a nice summary screen that'll show a number of laps and average speed/watts/etc in a table. That's neat.
@@gplama On the Garmin Edge Units i did use "Auto Lap Trigger by Postion" for Criterium Races. This way i got automatic Laps for every race round. But for training i never used. Never want press buttons in training intervals.
if you need someone to check these all work well in the northern hemisphere feel free to send all 8 to me and i'll test them for you!
bryton 860 looks decent
Can you review Lezyne mega C
If I can get a hold of one, Lezyne have been.... well... absent in the email reply arena.
