- The Dream SMP Disc Saga finale was insane! I felt really inspired to write a song about Dream's character. There were so many chess references made in the stream, so I decided, why not make a song with a ton of chess references? I'm no pro chess player but I do know how to play, so I used my knowledge of chess to make this song. I hope you enjoy! Big shout out to my friend and producer, Grace Thygeson! She has been an immense help to me for so long, always there to help me out with her amazing piano and production skills. She produced this song, along with several other songs of mine, and is currently helping me with my musical and album as well! She is so talented and an amazing person. Once again, thank you!

It feels as if Dream is talking to Wilbur here. This certainly doesn't feel like he's talking to Tommy; despite the line about resigning, Tommy is not one to play games. He is no chess player, having never purposefully manipulated people as pawns like Dream had.
If Tubbo is a pawn, couldn't Tommy be Wilbur's king? Wilbur had made his moves before his death; his actions continue to affect everyone despite the passing of time, affecting everyone's moves. The one most affected by this seems to be Tommy, who still questions Wilbur's motives and hears Wilbur's voice in his head.
Unless Tommy is unintentionally playing this little game of chess through the attachments he festered in people. He unwittingly created pawns for Dream to use, as Tommy lacks the desire for absolute control Dream has.
When he says “It’s time for you to resign” he might be talking about Wilburs death.
Ah yes! People tend to undermine Wilburs death, but it’s still effecting characters and how they act- Attachment, Mindset, Morals, Blame etc. are still being caused by his death!

Another fun fact with this that I noticed is at the beginning of the song it says "sometimes you have to leave a knight behind" Guess who's the knight? Shlatt, one of the two people who have permanently died so far, or a piece that dream had to leave behind, or kill off. The attention to detail with the song and the artwork is incredible

I thought of this theory while watching this, it’s elaborating on the theory that Dream planed to go to prison
In dream’s eyes, Tubbo is a pawn.
If a pawn reaches the other side of the board it can become a queen, and he gave enough time for Tommy and Tubbo to “say goodbye” when he could have intended for them to get help and for him to go to jail. He wants to bide his time so Tubbo (or anyone else who is considered a pawn) can get enough time to reach the other side. He may have seen ranboo as a pawn in the past, but he burned down George’s house and has memory issues, so ranboo “made it to the other side,” so he is a queen, vital to survival as is Tommy. his memory book is really important to him. Dream got the memory book so all he needs is enderchest (the cat) to have full control of both sides of ranboo. Ranboo cares about others, and since tubbo may stay a pawn, he could threaten to kill tubbo in front of Ranboo so Ranboo can give up enderchest, once he breaks out of course.
The egg may play a part in this metaphor. When Dream breaks out of prison, he may strike a deal with the eggpire, as long as the egg approves.
If the egg approves:
Dream will help from the shadows, as if Dream is promoting the eggpire, then people will be even more drawn away from it. Someone may find out what Dream is doing and will tell people. The egg may make BBH (or anyone who may be influenced in the future) to kill the snitch, but if the egg doesn’t know, then there will be a whole plot line maybe egg-xtending
seasons like l’manburg did.
If the egg doesn’t agree
Dream will be on the run, will run into someone and may manipulate them into helping him, if he fails then he might get Ranboo to help, if not then he’s gonna get George (though he may sleep through the whole ordeal)
If tubbo reaches the other side then he can manipulate him, as we know that he can take advantage of so many people, and if he fails then it’ll be the same thing as of the egg doesn’t agree with the plan.

this song is so perfect. the way the song is paced feels slow and deliberate yet fast almost like the song is in slow motion. the fading drums like a ripple as his moves effect everyone else. the way he controls everyone comes across with the undertones in perfect harmony with the rest, like he is controlling the rest of the orchestra. then the echoing voice and repetition in some parts being like the way he forced history to loop as he split up friends and alliances. easily my favorite song you have made.

I think a beautiful part of this, is that when chess and other professional board games get to higher levels, it's less about making the right move and rather its a game about breaking your opponents rhythm and flow. Dream is doing an excellent job of this with ranboo (currently and tommy in the past) and the connection you have drawn with this is 10/10 beautiful work

@@stafey7659 even with numbers on their side, they lose. The first revolution was a loss for L'Manberg. Tommy gambled one of his discs to pull it back and lost. L'Manberg only became a nation because Dream allowed it in exchange for Tommy's discs.
Pogtopia overthrew Manberg with ease and when the forces of Pogtopia rook over L'Manberg, it was destroyed by Dream, Techno, and Wilbur (armed with Dream's TNT).
Techno took out half of L'Manberg's Butcher Army before Quackity took Carl hostage.
Mosy of L'Manberg *knew* that they were going to lose on Doomsday, despite only expecting 2 individuals: Techno and Dream, in the opposing force. Even with Philza, it only 3 men to destroy the nation. The nation was fractured to the point of collapsing even before then. Half the nation sat out from the war, or even actively sabotaged it.
L'Manhole was a joke.
@@Nerdnumberone agreed, they lost in early game resulted in checkmate like me and classmate playing chess recently, even though my classmate has a lot of pieces, he lost to a pawn. Sacrifices are necessary. He kept pushing my defenses and I intentionally allowed it. 😂
I know enough about chess to know "your king in check" presumably means whoever's the most important person to whoever he's talking to, since checkmating the king ends the game for your opponent and checking someone's king also gives you a level of control over the game, so probably meaning Tubbo or Tommy because of how the disc war finale happened (though I also think it might be on a broader level about everyone on the dsmp, with the vault of attachments and all).
But also I couldn't help but think about Eret. Thinking about how Dream manipulated Eret, called Eret a figurehead and said all their power comes from him, it makes the phrase literal: "I control the king". Not sure that's intentional, but it would be a cool double meaning.

This oddly calm and beautiful for a Dream song. Despite the menacing lyrics, talking about how everyone is a pawn and he has a master plan, there's almost a sense of sadness to it. Like Dream's flaunting his genius and manipulative abilities, to hide to sorrow at the ties he had to cut to get there. This is especially shown in the line, "All of my moves are deliberate! They are supposed to stay ignorant!" and the repetition of "They think I'm insane." It's all evidence that everyone rightfully thinking he's a psychopath is starting to get to him.

I think this actually pretty much sums up dreams psychopathic and sadistic tendencies, it does it really well, he doesn't care about others' feelings, just absolute power. "They all called me insane, for how I played the game." It's a really great line because to dream, life is just that, a game. He only cares about control, complete control, and a monopoly on everyone. It's all a game to him, and he wants to win. Really good song, btw, I love it.

random thing i noticed with the lyrics "i all ready have your king in check" this could just be dream referring to the fact Tommy and Tubbo have lost, using the word check (as in checkmate the ending move in chess) however i see this as a possible reference to Eret the actual king of the smp who until the pogtopia arc (and possibly farther on) was under dreams control . idk just a random thought lol

It’s as if you predicted dream escaping and what happened as he actually wanted to go into prison. It’s like when it says in the song ‘people call me insane for how I played the game’ basically saying dream like sacrificed himself going through that torture, losing his cannon lives. Also one I like ‘I already have your king in check’ I’m taking the king as Tommy here and after Dream escapes he traumatises Tommy soooo ye. All of the lines kinda link to the first thing I said. I find it cool how you can include references and almost predict what happens

This is one of my favorite songs so far. I love all the chess references, my brother is a huge nerd about the game so I'm sure he would appreciate them. The lyrics are, as always, absolutely immaculate.
And the art. I've been following The Channel Without A Name for a while now and they're so absolutely talented, and this piece is no exception. I love how each chess piece has a characteristic of one of the other SMP members, and how he's holding the ones that I believe represent Tubbo and Tommy. It's so well done and detailed, the artist clearly put so much work into it and it turned out beautifully!

Cause not only did he kill Tommy he gained complete control over the one thing he cared most for and got a key to his prison by reviving him for all we know he could do this nonstop to Tommy to the point where Tommy is either begging to stay dead or begging for him not to kill and revive him again
Dream has total power over everything involving the one person who thought they could beat him if anything I will be surprised is he doesn't try to some how turn Tommy into nothing more then a pet due to his twisted personality and a message to everyone that sure you can defeat me but I will always have power over you in the end
