This was an amazing tutorial. My coach was telling me this exact thing but it’s so great to be able to see the mechanics in detail.

You are totally amazing Kevin the way you have explained the racket drop together with your other video. You are so gifted as a great teacher. We are so blessed to have teachers like you so willing to share your knowledge in a way that can be understood.

At 150k view, this is till underrated. Took me many years as a recreational player to realize imagine throwing the elbow (up n forward) THRU the contact point is what makes a solid serve. Different people may have different preparation/serve postures but this is key. Thanks Kevin for making this video. Would have saved me years of trial and error if this video had existed!

As you swing, try to imagine that you are gripping the racket handle with the tip of your elbow, rather than your hand.

@@jfollas698 Your fore-arm should pivot around your elbow joint, much as if you were swinging the far end of a nun chuck at the ball.

I have video of a serve from almost 3 yrs. ago when I was a 63 yo youngster. It was around 110 mph based on frame count and on where it hit the fence. That was an outlier as I tended to max out at about 105 back then and of course my typical flat serve was less than that. The previous day I’d hit a couple around 105 so I tried to figure out what I needed to do get back to the age equivalent. I worked on staying side on better, but wasn’t getting quite there. Then I realized I was tossing too much to the right and my swing was going out that way. I moved the toss more directly in front of me and hit 105ish again. Now I have to get the slider working with that toss.

its not elbow up, its shoulder up and elbow being in shoulder-line.

The great thing about tennis is that if you're fairly athletic you can work this out for yourself just from practicing and watching people play. You can work out the steps in the kinetic chain just from watching and then emulating the pros.
