- In this video I will be installing a S&B Cold Air Intake Part#75-5106 on my 2013 Ram 1500 with a 5.7. This cold air intake has much larger inlets allowing more air will to get into the engine. I am installing it in hopes it will improve acceleration when towing our big camper and possibly get me a MPG or 2 more.

I did put this air intake in my Amazon Affiliate store if you are interesting in buying one for your Ram. I do make a little bit off each purchase made from my store. Here is the link: www.amazon.com/shop/fabautomo... - Auta a dopravní prostředky
Nice clean look. Love the newer cold air intakes are clear where you can see when you need to clean the filter
I think it is a clean look also. I’m not a flashy guy and thought the all black with a clear cover would be fine. It sounds awesome too!
Great video Brian! Looks much better than stock & with that extra diameter it should definitely breath better👍 Hope the detail this weekend turns out well👌👌
Thanks! It definitely breathes better and sounds great when you get on it now. Detail is going great just have to finish tomorrow.
That is a good looking set up! Enjoyed the video
Thank you brother!
Install turned out good ..looks cool.. Cheers!
Thanks!
Love the look of the air box.
Thanks I do too!
Looks awesome cannot wait for the update.I was looking at them last night on stage 3 i think or JC pony.
Thanks! I will do an update at 500 miles for the intake and oil catch can.
Big thanks for the video! Definitely helped to put video together with the written/picture instructions that come from S&B.
By far the biggest pain was getting that CCV hose routed over to the snorkel connection and seated on there securely. Had to trim the hose length down, and it's such a fine line between too long and not long enough! Not completely confident it'll stay, so might have to end up rigging up some sort of coupler type deal...
Other than that, thanks for the video! The shortcut for the wheel well was a definitely time saver!
hoffm1179 You are welcome! Yeah the hose to the box was to long and I to was hoping I didn’t cut it to short. All in all I am very Happy with it.
Good install FAB! Hope it turns out to be worth it. Keep us updated. I just had 3 Bosal converters installed on my Acadia and had a heck of a time dealing with getting them correct. But I guess that’s what happens sometimes. Hope everything goes well for ya!!
Thanks brother! I hate dealing with converters.
Great informative video💯definitely wasnt too long or boring, hope it improved performance wise. Been trying to decide from s$b nd k&n
Thank you! It helped on accel and low torque when pulling. MPG hasn’t really changed. I really like this S&B it’s very well made.
Looks cool. Nice, clean install. Sounds good too. For a funny you could have dubbed in some audio from the idle of a top fuel dragster testing in the pits when you first started it. :)
Thanks! That would have been funny to do.
Lovely Jubbly, good to see something apart from detailing.
paul taylor Thanks! I enjoy working on them and making them shine.
I like your video. Very well done. I want to know if there is a video that shows how to clean it. I was told it should be done at every oil change to maintain performance. Can you please help me? Thanks
Sweet video brother! Intake looks awesome man! Idc what anyone says you will feel it in the butt dyno😄😄 I agree I think they should have had 2 more bolts in the airbox lid. But still looks great love the box and looks.. great video man! Hahaha I was gonna say someone needs an exhaust stud kit🤣🤣 LOL nice clean install. Time for some 🍕🍕🍕🍕
Thanks man! I definitely feel a difference in power. Yeah the exhaust drives me nuts. I just ate some pizza! 😂
@@FABAutomotiveDetailing hahahaha I had a feeling you were eating pizza! My taco senses were going crazy. It was then I new you were eating pizza LOL
PapaSmurf918 Man those tacos really heighten your senses. 😂
I left the bottom bracket of mine off because it was causing a very annoying metallic vibrating sound while driving. Also when I took the bolt out, it stripped the hole and nothing I did to try to fix the issue helped any. So therefore, I used the bolt that came with the kit to bolt the air box up at the top into the fender and then of course, the two smaller bolts that attach it to the fender liner. There's honestly no need at all for the bracket because with those other bolts in, the air box does not move at all.
Nice I was going to get me one for the 1LE but $400 ? That's a steep price for an intake so I decided to spend the money on something else. Use to have one for my 5th gen and loved it
ZoutlawSS Thanks! Yeah they are expensive but worth it if you plan on keeping the car.
good video long time watcher but the truck already had a “cold air” intake on it ,if the manufacturer though it could be better they would have done something different its all for the look and sound . on a truck like that mayb 5-10 hp gain on cool days u cant feel that kind of power gain on a 5k lbs truck but i can see how adding expensive parts to your car to make it your “own” suffice .keep up the good work
Looks great! Interested to see if you see a performance and efficiency difference. My '12 Silverado All Star Z71 came with a factory "high flow" air intake but I replaced it with a Stainless Steel K&N cold air intake and over the 7+ years its been in, my mixed MPG has been consistent 17.3, great acceleration and overall great sound from the factory high performance exhaust. Also being SS it really dresses up the engine. money well spent.
Thanks! I ya e already noticed a difference in performance but MPG’s so far haven’t been any better for me. I will make an update video at 500 miles on the intake and oil catch can.
Nice job. I hate engine covers! Will you need to do something with the ECU so it will properly deal with more air coming in and add more fuel?
Thanks! I might just take the engine cover off. As of now the ECU should be fine.
Looks awesome man!! I like it..
One question.. the more air coming in might need a bigger opening going out..
It is now totally justifiable to buy a new exhaust system😎👍🏼
Thanks! That is true but the factory exhaust is 3 inch and I don’t want it louder so it will ha e to do.
FAB Automotive Detailing Same size just less restriction
I'm getting one of these soon. Where'd ya get the light bar for the hood?
I bought it off a tool truck at my work. You can get it off Amazon. I believe it’s in my Amazon store. There is a link in the description.
Brian the intake looks good. I would look to add larger exhaust within emissions regs. Magnaflow? Maybe Mrs. Fab can get one for Father’s Day? Can I ask, what did you spray on the grommets?
Thanks I love the look also. I don’t want to make the exhaust louder because I don’t want to have to listen to it when towing. It just some 3m multi purpose spray lubricant.
FAB Automotive Detailing
Understand. Would be louder. Intake sounded good when revving. Definitely could here the air flow increase. Good luck.
Great video man I've been look for a short ram for my truck I just cant bring myself to pay for it.
Thanks! I would not use a short ram intake because it will just suck in hot air from the engine.
@@FABAutomotiveDetailing unfortunately I have to a cold air intake would suck in water when it rains because of how its ran. A short ram intake in a box (I'll probably build my self on a budget) would work best in my s10
Michael Campbell Ok I understand. As long as you can make a box a box that would be good the.
What's the verdict? More power, better MPG, any update you can make here would ne awesome.
Is it necessary to retune the ECM as you are pulling in more air now of does the stock ECM adjust for this?
The stock PCM is fine and will adjust for it BUT a tuner would allow you to get more power out of it.
I added the S&B on my 14 Ram along with a 14" Magnaflow muffler. Nice deep throaty music for my ears!
I also added a pedal commander, a bit pricey but well worth it. Goodbye throttle lag!
CAUTION ⚠ you will burn the tires up on sport +, +4.😂
It made my exhaust come to life with just stock exhaust. I plan on a pedal commander just don’t tell Mrs FAB. 😂
@@FABAutomotiveDetailing getting rid of that big can makes a big difference. Like you said, air restriction in, same way out with stock.
Mike Bankowski If I could find a muffler that is low noise like the stock muffler I would do it but I don’t want loud exhaust when pulling a camper up the interstate for hours.
@@FABAutomotiveDetailing look into magnaflow 22"
Bo L Thanks I will check it out!
😎
More air coming in?? So what about the air coming out? Does the exhaust needs to be modified?
I don’t think it needs to on this truck! It has 3 inch exhaust from the factory.
Have your Ram dealer run your last 8 digits of the VIN and they can tell you if the manifolds are still covered under warranty. I work at a CDRJ and Ford dealership and we replace them all the time.
Awesome man thank you so much!
@@FABAutomotiveDetailing You're welcome Brian.
Doesn't the truck have to re-programmed to take advantage of the intake? Great video!
Chris Hayes To get the most out of it a tuner and dyno would be necessary. I can tell you it has made a substantial difference on acceleration just the way it is. Any extra cool air you can get in will make a difference although sometimes it’s a slight difference.
Thanks for the info
Do you think that this intake can fit a 2008 dodge ram 1500 4x4 hemi?
I don’t believe so. I believe this one was for 2011-16.
It's weird my 2012 has a removable cover on the wheel well cover directly by the second inlet for the s&b
Pw Pw That is weird! I wish mine had that.
@@FABAutomotiveDetailing useless because I live in Arizona. So by their recommendations i should keep that thing on.
Pw Pw I was in Arizona in October for the Turtle Wax event and man I don’t know how you handle that heat. That wasn’t even the hottest part of the year for you guys either.
@@FABAutomotiveDetailing October is not hot lol you don't get use to it but you do find ways to put up with it . It's not even a thing until it hits 110
Pw Pw When we were there it was 98 but that dry heat gets me. We get in the 90’s and break 100 every now and then in Indiana but it’s not a dry heat like that.
Hey Fab... Looks like a nice clean kit. Plexiglass is cool just wonder how durable it will be from getting marred up. You know the OCD wont allow for that to be scratched..lol. As a fellow auto tech I wouldn't debate the pro's and cons of a cold air kit either.. its cool so screw the naysayer's..
Thanks brother! I hope it doesn’t get scratched up but it may be hard to keep that from happening. I definitely won’t debate it with anyone but I can tell you I have noticed better performance on acceleration.
@@FABAutomotiveDetailing I know it..28 years working with Dodge I had cold air kits on every vehicle I have owned. Now I'm with the Federal Government and drive a Bolt EV.. Still in the auto end of things tho..you would love our shop.
Chicago Mike I’m sure I would like the shop.
Why do the current S&B instructions not mention removing the engine cover?
I have no idea
@@FABAutomotiveDetailing you’re saying removing the cover is required?
@@DetroitMikeVids Yes it is
@@FABAutomotiveDetailing oh you have a 2013! Sorry! I have a 2023
Any noticeable noise difference while getting on it driving???
From a dead stop and a rolling start yes it definitely pull harder.
@@FABAutomotiveDetailing thanks..i ordered one for mine thanks for the reply
For some reason my ac line is pushing against the airbox on my 14 Ram.
Bo L Not sure why it would be but you should be able to move it over slightly by loosening the clamp.
Ive taken it completely lose. The line still pushes down a good bit on the housing. Gonna try this weekend again. And thank u for the response.
Bo L You are welcome!
@@FABAutomotiveDetailing the spintech 9000 & magnaflow 22" are the best sounding mufflers i think. Deep rumple.
Bo L Are they loud though? I don’t want to listen to them for hours while towing the camper down the interstate.
It is a screw if it is screwed in. It is considered a bolt if it uses a nut to secure. Just FYI, don’t take as me picking on you.
It’s all good man! I know the difference but sometimes my brain just goes with the wrong word. 😂
@@FABAutomotiveDetailing my point was that you actually said it right and then thought you needed to make a correction. The only difference between a hex head cap screw and a hex head bolt is the way that it is fastened.
Manifold leak might be under warranty still.
I will have to look into it. I really don’t want to mess with it.
Throttle body spacers dont do anything at all for a fuel injected engine. Just fyi.
