54 year old me sitting here smiling knowing what’s coming for you and waiting for the look on your face while I try to relive my first time hearing these old Metallica songs. It makes me so proud that these are still just as good today as they were way back then. You must see them live! They are so good live. They may not run around the stage quit as much as they used to but they are still amazing live.
That part.
52 here saw them in 86 with cliff rip
45 yr old me, knowing what's coming 🤘
Absolutely agree. Metallica changed things in a big way and seeing them live was amazing. 51 year old me had 'Metallica' embroidered on my highschool jacket back in 91' lol
I am 54 years old and you took the words out of my mouth. Smoke one for me bro!
What’s crazy is that these guys were in low 20s writing these masterpieces.
This song has one of the most dynamic and epic solos of the entire band, it sounds electric!
Ride the Lightning is arguably one of Kirk's best solos.
Whole album is his strongest solo work IMO.
the solo from "One" is right up there with this one however.
@Janaesp12 absolutely.
@@Janaesp12no not even close
@@nachocheez9690 Even close. and objectively true
Can’t wait to see “ Trapped Under Ice “ 😮💨 gonna blow your mind
Arguably Kirk's best solo 🤘👍
If I'm not mistaking, Kirk was taking lessons from the great Joe Satriani during this time
St angers solo was better. Jk.
Arguably a top 10 all-time solo in metal.
@@GeekFuriousyes
Obviously you weren't there....but to hear this album as the FOLLOW-UP to Kill 'em All was quite an experience. It was when the metal community KNEW there was something special here, something that would eventually change the game. This was the soundtrack of my freshman year in high school.
I love Metallica.. this is the album in my opinion...that is my favorite... FAN4LIFE🤘🏽😎
My favorite Is AND justice for all AND garaje inc it is 3ir album😂😂😂🤟🤟🤟🤟🤨
Mine too
Yeah dude! This is my favorite album to! Might be my favorite album of all time? It's that good! Blew my fifteen year old mind when I first heard it in the 80's. Still blows my mind.
They were younger. Likely 21 years old at the time. This song gives a good description of what it would be like sitting in the electric chair. Cliff died during Master of puppets tour / their next album. Trapped under ice is a great song which also describes very well what it must be like to fall through ice and not able to get out.
Trapped Under Ice is a great tune! Probably my favorite off of Ride the Lightning 👍
I love Trapped Under Ice. "Austrian Death Machine" does a very competent cover of it. Check 'em out on CZcams. For a parody band, they kick some serious ass, and I actually like their version of this song almost as much as the original.
Ride the Lightning was their second Studio Album, they still sounded a little like Kill 'Em All, meaning a younger sounding voice, and Master of Puppets was after this album and the first album that they sounded much more musically and vocally mature. So, technically you're listening to them "Grow Up" as the albums get released.
Hey Mollyboy... can't go wrong with first three albums man...this is 1984... puppets is 1986. Cliff died on 27th of September 1986 while on the puppets tour.. we all miss him greatly.
dude their 90 stuff was also excellent just a bit more commercial but still raising cain nonetheless
Cliff Burton was the bassist on the first 3 albums . Kill 'em all , ride the lightning and master of puppets. He was a great bassplayer and is still missed bij millions.
I love that album!! You should listen to "Trapped Under Ice", it's a masterpiece 🔥🔥.
P.S. I really enjoy your reactions i can't wait to see that one, ride the lightning is also a big masterpiece 🤘
Someone, anyone, take this kid to see Metallica!
We're going to drag him!! My 28 yr old daughter said!! I said.. I dont think we've got to drag him!!
Too late
@@samuelsuiter3673 Did I miss something?! Has he gotten to see them? Does he have tickets? I seriously wanna know lol
He probably said to late because they are trash live since approximately 1997. Lol
@@joshuamasserant8215 I'll love them to the end.
“MollyboyTV: “How many of you are going to hate me if I rewind that whole thing again”
Me: ROTFLOL 🤣🤣
Aye man sorry for being late, the order is like this:
-Kill 'Em All (1983)
-Ride The Lightning (1984)
-Master Of Puppets (1986)
-...And Justice For All (1988)
-Black Album (1991)
That's their 5 first albums, and yeah, they began in their very early twenties, so James' vocal maturity was really noticeable later on.
Not to mention improved production quality.
Man i said it to you early on in your Metallica journey, every song from the first 4 albums are absolute classics and you should listen to them over and over again to appreciate them fully, they will bring you happiness everytime. they still give me goosebumps even to this day.
Very, very....agree🤘🤘
Call of Ktulu. They still give me chills all these years later. They are my favorite band in the universe. I birthed my child to the song, Orion consistently on a loop and it was magical. so glad you are being blessed with this beautiful music!
that is the most hardcore thing I have heard LoL
Yes another great album. If you haven't noticed by now all metal bands are compared to Metallica..... They're the best to ever do it. Their first 4 albums just may be the 4 best metal albums of all time. That's how legendary they are.
Nope - that would be the originators of the form ... BLACK SABBATH!!!
The first six Sabbath albums or the first five Metallica albums… both legendary runs.
Agreed with all above statements
Bs done 4 great thrash albums . Then turned to pop .
Not even close!
The first heavy metal acts are considered to be Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath and Deep Purple, often referred to as the “unholy trinity”. Led Zeppelin released their self-titled debut in 1969, while Black Sabbath and Deep Purple put out influential records in 1970.
Metal began to branch out into sub-genres, with glam and hair metal acts like Motley Crue and Poison spearheading the movement. Thrash metal became huge, with bands such as Metallica and Megadeth reaching ever larger audiences, thanks in part to metal acts being played on MTV, which started airing in 1981.
Metallica owes it all to the iconic early metal innovators!
Kill 'Em All released in 1983, Ride the Lightning in 1984, Master of Puppets in 1986, ...And Justice for All in 1988.
Watching your reactions is almost like revisiting the first time I ever heard all these songs 30 years ago. It's bringing back a lot of good memories, brother. Keep 'em coming. I recommend Fight Fire With Fire from this album next.🤘

You left out the $5.98 EP Garage Days Re-revisited. Released between Puppets and Justice. All covers but well worth the $6 at that time.
@@justindavis5259 Ah, yes. I did forget about that one. It was released in 1987.
Its crazy how far your channel has grown. 10k subs in 2 months
Cliff Burton played bass on the first three albums, Ride the Lightning is their second album.
Cliff died while on the Master of Puppets tour.
I have to say they are also the best live band I’ve ever seen and I’ve seen hundreds of bands.
Check out Seattle 89 for live versions of songs, this is when they are in their prime.
Seen them 25 times and met them twice(great, friendly guys)
So jealous! I’d love to meet them! I’ve seen them maybe half a dozen times over the years. Once while cliff was still alive! They have been my favorite band since the first time I heard them around 1985!
@@susanconstable2113 same, first show I saw was Ride the Lightning tour with Cliff. They were opening for WASP.
@@danmclachlan3648 same here! Also with Armored Saint on the bill. 3 great bands, and 'tallica was the best of them. Met them before the show, they were so unknown here (Montreal) at the time, they came out for drinks lol.
Bleeding Me. I don't care if you don't like it. I love it, top 5, along with Blackened and 3 others I haven't decided on yet
It's fun to revisit these albums. They're all great in their own way. Thanks🎉 this band will never let you down.
In 1983, I was 14 years old. I listened to The Eagles, Boston, Heart, Aerosmith.....then a friend gave me Kill em all. A metalhead was born. It does my heart good to see you enjoy the music of my youth and young adult years. You truly appreciate music. Genuine reaction. You are my favorite channel. 🤘🥰
Debuts just as I finish work! Looking forward to it, probably my favourite guitar solo of all time 🤘🏻
Next, you gotta check out "Fade To Black" from the same album. It truly is a masterpiece!
The reaction already exists.

Best Metallica song EVER!
Yes, Fade to Black is my favorite Metallica song! You will like it, I promise you😊
This is the 1st Metallica song i ever heard, it was In the late 80s, i was hooked ever since,
1984
@@penguin82875 I think they mean that the first time they heard it was the late 80s
@@brettkenschaft4239 You are correct, 1st time was in the late 80's '87" right before the Justice album came out, is when I found MetallicA family
You mentioned the solos. I love the solos in The Outlaw Torn & The Day That Never Comes
My absolute 2 favs live versions only!! I have like 10 top songs, but those 2 are Fire!! The Outlaw Torn is James n kirk solos n vocals are insane!! And The Day That Never Comes ...omg live in Paris France is my fav, they just kill it!! Live is better though imo.
Janes though on the Outlaw Torn, is amazing...ive seen him play solos but this ones just freakin amazing!! 🎸🤘
"If you think there's a Metallica song you think I won't like, let me know and I'll check it out."
St. Anger has entered the chat
I thought the same 😅
Top 5 of all time from them!!! Kirks solo is fantastic.
Excelente reacción hermano. Tantas canciones y bandas tan buenas que tienes por delante. Sigue así hermano espero disfrutes del Metal como todos nosostros. Saludos desde México 🤘
Ride the Lightning has always been my fav metallica album. The guitar tones...james' youthful voice...incredible solos...
I actually got to see them Live on this Tour...Life Changing!
OMG I haven't listened to Metallica nearly enough. Big thank you for your reactions!😍🤩😘🔥🔥🔥
You're absolutely correct, we don't mind if you rewind the solo guitars.
I was a fan from the beginning we were lucky to have a passionate metalhead record shop in perth Western Australia, Twilight Records, Stewart would import brand new stuff from around the world so I can say we were some of the first people in Australia to hear kill em all, ride the lightning and master of puppets....
I remember listening to this when it first came out.....
Brilliant....
🤘🤘
Watching Kirk play this live is still amazing to this day…
It's nice to see you enjoying these...glad that you found these guys
hey man, good to see you on your journey! I'm sure I had the same emotions back in the 90's when this music was EVERYTHING
You know what I’m gonna subscribe right now just to see your reactions to rest of this album. In I opinion the best album because it sounded so raw
You’ve got hear their cover of ‘Astronomy’ by Blue Oyster Cult on ‘Garage Inc’ album. It’s absolutely incredible.
Ok, bro. I have watched all of your Metallica reactions multiple times, along with several of your other videos.
I must say that you have perfected the art of the "reaction" video!!
Im 43 and your reactions take me back to the first time i listened to them over 30 years ago!!!
59 years old...and I smile because you gonna get a great experience ...
easily my favorite metallica solo. a minute and a half of pure bliss on guitar. i could listen to this 100 times in a row and it wouldnt get old
One of the things I love about your channel is that you rewind the solos. You really appreciate their skills as a musician, and it seems like you’re a natural metalhead too. Glad to see you enjoying the genre thus far!
The chefs kiss perfectly summed this song up😃👍 really enjoying your channel mon amie👍
was having a bad boring day, but when i see you post a new metallica reaction vid makes my day sm better
That means a lot, I’m glad I could make your day better
Can't wait for your reaction to the solo in this one. Amazing song. 🤘🤘
Also, my second stab at suggesting Make Them Suffer - Widower.
Your reactions are so good, you really get it, I can tell. I’m a Metallica fan since 1993 (age 13). When I discovered that stuff my head was exploiting, it was the first metal band I got really into as well since up to that point I was mostly into classic rock. I remember telling to myself “wow metal kicks ass” and yes it does but I didn’t realised that was not just some “good metal”. That stuff is beyond legendary. I literally can’t find the words to describe my emotions. 30 years passed and every time I hear these albums my heart breaks, every fucking time. How could I know that at the age of 13 I was listening stuff that will be considered as classical music in some years. Seeing you listening to that stuff for the first time and especially when I see you get it right away is priceless. Today I’m a musician myself and I listen to a lot of music from Jazz to Trip Hop to Electro to Black Metal to whatever the fuck else lol but the first 4 Metallica records are literally untouchable by anything or anyone. Fun fact: Although Master of Puppets is my favourite Metallica album as a whole, Fight Fire With Fire and Ride the Lightning are my fav Metallica songs! They’re just sick as fuck!
I think is one of the best solo I ve heard in my life.
It starts bluessy.....Then changes to an arpegio of classical music and finishes with the power of Metallica esence....Its very difficult to explain...I hear it over and over again everytime I listen to this song...
Thanks Mollyboy....
I dont know if you reacted to "To live is to die" (And Justice for All)......Its shocking! Thats mozart level!
I know you ll like it..
Greating from Argentina!!!!!
I remember going to a music shop in my country (where metal wasn't that available 20 years ago) with a list of heavy metal and thrash tunes to see if they can provide them - It took them 10 days, but eventually i got them, and my reaction listening to Ride the lightning was literally transcending. Point is, i really really envy you for experiencing this for the first time, as the more you become obsessed, the more this will be cherished for you in the future, and also, you got this on video, which is awesome !
BACK TO THE BEGINNING MFERS....old heads are here
We need more of this. Metal now is too polished.
And not live!!
I remember hearing the debut of "Ride The Lightning" on the Heavy Metal From Hell program on WBCN Boston back in 1984. Recorded it to cassette tape and listened to it over and over and over. Kick ass tune.
Yeah, this was right before Master. After Master, they had the $5.98 EP. You will certainly enjoy that too. It was after Cliff died, and it was the first offering with Jason Newsted on bass. They recorded it themselves in their garage and it's fucking SICK.
83 Kill Em All
84 Ride the Lightning
86 Master of Puppets
88 And Justice for All
91 Black Album
Great video mate!
One of my favourite tracks this. Epic stuff.
great episode!
How I envy you, for listening this for the first time. You made me revisited those times through your reaction. Thank you for that.
49 here.. watching your face brings back so many memories. Gets even better the more you listen to it.
Greetings from Argentina, waiting the next metallica reaction, 🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
Master Piece just hit play. Welcome to the Show my man. I bought this album at a flea market in Phoenix Arizona when I was 11 years old. I never looked back melted my brain. Welcome to the metal club, great reactions.
Saw these guys a few years ago in Denver and there was a thunderstorm that delayed the show for a while. There were people in the stands chanting Ride the Lightning during the delay. They did come back and finish the show thankfully...
Decades later I still get chills with all of the early Metallica.
Going to Metallica shows in the 80s early 90s was the Best🤘🔥
So Awesome! You know what, you should go back to the beginning and do the Kill Em' All album, then Ride The Lightning album, you did Master, then there's Garage Days LP, The Black Album, Justice and so on. This way you get to hear their progression thru the years!
It's fun seeing someone fall in love with this band for the same reason my youth did. 🔥
Keep listening, it only gets better.
For whom the bell tolls, off ride the lightning. The intro is bass ripping in the upper register, Cliff was a beast. Do the album cut first then do the live cut from '85, Live on the green. Check out Anesthesia(Pulling teeth) from Kill'em All. Album cut first then live from '83.
The solo elevates this song imo, it’s one of my favourites.
Other favourite solos are in “Fade to Black”, “The Four Horsemen”, “One”, Master of Puppets”, “The Unforgiven”…. Off the top of my head.
This going to be good
..The initial four Metallica albums escalate in intensity, featuring exceptionally remarkable tracks. It's genuinely extraordinary; no one has surpassed their achievement, notwithstanding differing opinions. The Black Album remains impressive, enduring through subsequent releases and beyond. Their latest album is equally remarkable. In conclusion, Metallica stands the test of time.
It just don't stop. The beat of Metallica
awsome bro im glad u heard tthis masterpiece :D cnt wait u to hear the SONG And justice for all :D ... such bangers :D
James Hetfield, Kirk Hammett, Cliff Burton, and Lars Ulrich are on the first 3 albums: Kill'em All, Ride the Lightning, and Master of Puppets, which to me are my favorites.... This past summer I got to see them again and for the first time I heard them play live Ride the Lightning and Fight Fire with Fire.... I was speechless!!
I love the transitions. Has a punk rock style to it 😊
This was the first Metallica album I ever bought back in 1984 when I was in high school. I listened to it for 4 hours that night. The next day, I went out and bought Kill Em All and I've never looked back.
Love this riff
Now a lot of people hated their 89's stuff because it did have a diff more commerical sound but as of late they have come out with a new album that harkens back to this stuff. I personally love most of their stuff .
Studio Album order is:
* Kill 'Em All (1983)
* Ride the Lightning (1984)
* Master of Puppets (1986)
* ...And Justice For All (1988)
* Metallica/Black (1991)
* Load (1996)
* Reload (1997)
* St.Anger (2003)
* Death Magnetic (2008)
* Hardwired...To Self Destruct (2016)
* 72 Seasons (2023)
There is also all their live albums as well, and cover and tribute albums as well.
I can’t tell you how much I love your Metallica reactions
Thank you! I’m glad you enjoy them
Great recation! You are a Metalhead in the making for sure appreciating the music.
But there's another level, the storytelling.
This is about someone facing the electric chair.
Fade to Black is about someone facing suicide.
Creeping Death is a biblical tale.
My favourite Metallica album musically too, those solos!!
My favorite song off this album is Trapped under Ice. Epic!!
This is their second studio album. Kill em all, ride the lightening, master of puppets, and justice for all, the black album, load, reload, amongst others
Bro! Glad you enjoyed RTL.
I've asked like 5 times (everybody seems to be counting) PLEASE check out Lamb Of God songs (Either Omerta or Laid To Rest) both from the same album which is great. Very groovy riffs, lovely drums and loads of pinch harmonics lol
I'm sure you'll enjoy them mate. They were the band I first liked after listening to Metallica and Pantera for years 🙏
I saw Lamb of God years ago in the Met Cafe in Providence Rhode Island. It was basically the size of a medium sized apartment. The stage was about a foot tall and they sat and had drinks after the show. It was wild.
That's dope man. I've never met them, but I nearly lent my golf clubs to Wille when he was in London for a show one time. We spoke on the gram for a while, was pretty cool@@johnnyb6067
Lightning 1984, Puppets 1986.
Oh... And Ride the Lightning song is one of my favorites, great guitar solo with the double kick and bass just kicks ass!!!
Really happy when you rewinded the solo, best metallica solo fr. If u havent already, LISTEN TO FOR WHOM THE BELL TOLLS!! One of the best metallica songs
You should react to any song from St Anger. It is regarded as their worst album. Personally I like it
The songs off this album translate so much better live.
St. Anger is trash/ worst drum sound ever.
1st 5 Albums in order:
1. Kill ‘Em All - 1983
2. Ride The Lightning - 1984
3. Master Of Puppets - 1986. (R.I.P. Cliff)
4. …And Justice For All - 1988 or 89
5. Black Album (Self Titled) - 1991
That solo, simply magnificent and full of feeling, absolutly great, by the guitar heroe, MR. Kirk Hammett.......LEGEND
That solo EPIC . HOLY WOW. LAGATO ,PHRASING ,AND CHAPTERS. WOW!! HES SHOWING MASSIVE SKILLS HERE
I bought this cassette in 4th grade and instead of eating lunch, I’d sneak in my Walkman and sit by myself at a cafeteria table rocking to this album…one of my buddies would sometimes use one of the headphones and we’d share a pair///good times
Finally you readt to this song and the Kirk Hammet solo in almost 2 minutes,that's awsum👊
This was my first Metallica album, and this was my favorite song for a long time, but I can't wait for your reaction to Call of Ktulu.
Ride the Lightning is the second studio album by the American heavy metal band Metallica, released on July 27, 1984, by the independent record label Megaforce Records. The album was recorded in three weeks with the producer Flemming Rasmussen at Sweet Silence Studios in Copenhagen, Denmark. The artwork, based on a concept by the band, depicts an electric chair being struck by lightning flowing from the band logo. The title was taken from a passage in Stephen King's novel The Stand, in which a character uses the phrase to refer to execution by electric chair. So the recording quality wasnt close to what it is on Master when they really hit it big
You really need to finish this album. It does not disappoint. I bought this one new. Still jamming out to it.
I first heard this 7 th grade 1996. Its still killer
Love this album, soundtrack to my youth
Saw Metallica on this tour at the Aragon Ballroom Chicago. Armored Saint and Wasp were the opening acts.Was Most HEAVY!!!!
Imagine being 22/23 and writing music like this!! Hell and lyrics to match!! Dammm!! They were so young.. ive loved them since
Kill'em All! These boys are tight af too, 43 years of perfection! Period! Don't come at me with only the 1st 4 albums either...i love all of it, except St Anger & lulu. Those we can skip or save..lol
They were younger than that
