Air Force pushups.
Imagine how effective it would've been if they'd have done proper form.
I dunno. I had the worse form, and definitely saw the bigger gains
@@ModernRogue I think its because you were putting more effort into the pushups. If you forget the number of pushups, it is easy to see who is pushing harder (or closer to as hard as they can).
@Kevin w he's got a name, man
I swear
@@ModernRogue it may have to do more with the fact your muscles had time to get rest and to repair after that first week so you gains were more pronounced sooner.
Anybody else come back and start doing this now that we’re in quarantine

bro do pushups please @Jim Henline
they were both doing their push ups the very wrong way
Alfred Lewis yup.
Yeah. The routine is a lot more draining if 1) you actually do the push-ups correctly, and 2) you start out with a higher max. You end up doing a lot more, harder push-ups and at the end you feel like you want to die.
Also: you don't finish the program.
Source: 15 years of trying this thing every year.
But just imagine how much better your results will be with proper push-up technique!
+The Modern Rogue You guys should check out the book starting strength by mark rippetoe. even if you're not interested in the program you will learn quite a bit.
also the first few days you guys had DOMS. That's what happens when you introduce a lot of volume that the body has not adapted to.
Brian: (reminds Jason to do full push ups)
Brian: (doesn’t do full push ups)

Caution to anyone who tries this: Make sure to take a rest day after every 2-3 days because I followed this exactly and half way through the second week, I strained/inflamed a tendon in my left shoulder. My form was perfect, and I didn’t do any other upper body workouts during the 2 weeks. You’re going to need time to recover to not over exert your muscles. Just know when to stop, so you don’t get injured like I did.

Go for it, I do it. I’m an athletic guy, sometimes it motivates others to join me.
Brian didn't have the same range of motion, of course he can do more of thos.
Correct push-up form: i*i ,*,
Their push-up form: ,-*-,
The correct push-up form changes depending on what part you wan to target. Classic push-up, Wide push-up, Diamond push-up, Staggered push-up, Reverse push-up, Tricep extension push-up, Forearm push-up, Stacked push-up, T push-up, Tandem push-up, Russian push-up, Archer push-up, Hindu push-up, Spider-man push-up, Superman push-up... The list goes on.
Both i*i ,*, and ,-*-, can be the correct form, depending what you're going for. I won't disagree that they had bad form, but you're wrong about what determines good form.
@@RainMakeR_Workshop Please dont do wide pushups, what you do stand to gain youll most likely end up damagin your tendon in your shoulder due to the pinching motion
Salad tell you what, I’ll believe you as soon as every gym get rid of their chest fly machine. Because those things have you in an even wider position.
I don’t deny that it “can” be dangerous. When done incorrectly. But it isn’t dangerous in of itself.
But hey, maybe every professional trainer I’ve ever had, my physiotherapist and all of the professional coaches in CZcams are wrong? (Seriously the majority of vids of wide push-up are on how to do them, I can’t find ONE saying don’t). But by all means provide a credible peer reviewed paper on the subject. Blog posts, forum posts and magazine articles don’t count.
@@RainMakeR_Workshop Im not trying to argue that they shouldnt be done at all, perhaps i projected my personal concerns a bit. Overall though, proper form can minimize injury. I dont deny they cant be dont properly and they absolutely have their benefits but i would try to train those muscles areas through alternate means.
Heres a decent video covering proper form where they also explain the motion of the wide pushup and how it can pinch you.

Stay safe exercising brother
@@salad5768 You literally said "Don't do wide push-ups". It may not be what you intended, but you certainly did argue that they shouldn't be done at all.
Almost every weighted exercise has risks.
A basic bench-press can cause pinching in the shoulder, bicep curls can cause elbow pain, deadlifts can strain your lower back.
But each of those exercises can be done without injury, if done correctly.
And the Deadlift is WAAAAAAAAAAAAY more dangerous than a wide push-up.
I am currently doing this, it's amazing how you get used to doing push-ups so fast. I would love it if you could do a similar version but this time you get your abs showing. Best channel on youtube!
Not that I know much about this but Murphy's looked more like proper push ups
I thought they should be shoulder width apart
The placement of your hands changes the kind of push-ups you do. There are wide arm push-ups, close hand push-ups(aka nipple push-ups or PRT push-ups in the army), shoulder width push-ups(aka high-school push-ups), diamond push-ups (which are the second most difficult in my opinion), reverse grip push-ups (where point your fingers toward your feet(also the most difficult ones)), and the backwards push-ups (where you count how many times you do a full rotation from down to up, not up to down(this type can also be mixed with the other types to make them more intense)). Each different kind of push-up you do changes the muscle group you are working in your arms. So, for example, Jason said that he felt it mostly in his forearms, because he most likely did (without knowing it) a combination of shoulder width and wide arm, whereas Brian, who felt it mostly in his triceps and biceps, most likely did a combination of wide arm and close hand.
William Mcmeekin it still isn't full range of motion
Brian didn't fully extend his arms when he pushed himself up. He cut the motion short. I think if he went through the full range of motion, he would have had numbers more similar to Jason.
I went from a max of 2 pull ups to 20 pull ups in 2 weeks doing something very similar to this. Every time I went into the garage, I would do half of my max, and the fridge was in the garage, so I did a lot of pull ups. Then the pull-up bar broke and I landed directly on my tailbone on the concrete, and now I can do 1.5 pull ups.
wtf lmao
1. quality over quantity. (do them on your knees if you have to)
2. if you like your shoulders, tuck your elbows in close to your body at about a 45° angle, not 90 like they are doing it.
3. lower your chest all the way to the floor slowly.
4. explode up to the starting position.
5. snap necks and cash checks
knee pushups aren't good for doing pushups
snaps agreed, but everyone has to start somewhere. they are also good for burnouts when you cant do anymore regular pushups
@@snapzstorm gotta start somewhere, they help you get used to the arm motion, and lifting some of your bodyweight
My elbows feel enflamed, and I can feel my shoulders rounding from watching this.
your results on size is wrong because you measured before you worked out in resting and then you measured right after your max wich adds a pump so you arent at rest
when you are doing push ups every 15 minutes all day, when exactly is "at rest"?
The Modern Rogue no like how you measured before and after the workout when you measured at start it was before first max so that is at rest what you should of done is measured before your final max
instead of measuring after final max
Is that really going to change the results that much?
Tom Sawyer well a pump is a body boner so how much bigger is your fireman with a boner
Their lack of size increase was probably due to burning fat.
now imagine situps in that same schedule
Tomas Torres depends on you BMI, sit ups doesn't really burn body fat.
More likely due to their lack of increase in muscle mass. Plus the final measurement was taken after they pumped blood into the muscle so there should be a slight increase anyway. Even if you do everything perfectly with nutrition and resistance exercise, the most you can legitimately gain in muscle alone (all of the body combined) is maybe 1lb. Unless you involve some form of outside component.
CrimsonKumiho the workout looks to be more tuned to definition, and hey their max doubled but that might be just getting used to the motion.
Connor Whitehead Nah. Definition is determined by the amount of fat between the muscle tissue and skin. This program is more about building endurance of the muscles associated with the exercise. Or to put it another way, their bodies got better at doing push ups.
9:54 dude dropped like in an 80's comedy movie. lol
You guys are so friggin awesome. I loved Hacking the System. I'm so glad I found this channel, cause your personalities are awesome. Please keep up the great work!
Thanks! Glad you're enjoying it!
Our entire night shift on a two week exercise in 2003 did this program during our 12 hours. We dropped everything on the top of the hour to do our target number of push ups. We were definitely the most mentally awake section and did not feel guilty about skipping gym after shift.
I know I'm responding to a comment from 6 years ago but... What kind of results did you all have?
Im curious too
i love this show, it talks about topics that i'm interested in like improvised weaponry or tradecraft. and these guys are funny and they have a personality like other shows don't. please continue what you guys are doing.
p.s u guys need to make another fitness video like this, for everyones health here
Hey Brian, I just wanted to say how much you've inspired me over the years. I'm a big follower of scam school and I love MR. The human blockhead and chimney routines never fail me! Anyway, great stuff. Me and my buddy are trying out this push-up program and we're on day two and dying, but looking forward to the turnout! Thanks
What was the outcome
sadly i didn't get to see these when they were much less popular and only had a few videos, though i still got to see the beginning of one of the best myth busters related series i've ever seen.
I was doing chest to ground, hands to shoulder push ups 100x a day for a week and a half, max at start was 15, now its 40.
I love how the promotion in these videos is still entertaining, Good Job !
I love this show so much and the production value is so great, I wish yall were better
For anyone wondering, this builds up type 1 muscle fibers which are endurance based and don't grow in size as much as type 2, which are used for heavy weights for short times. That's why the muscle size gains were underwhelming. Me personally I love this as I am training to get into the army and I can already see a huge difference in how many I can do as I just started week 2. Thanks for making this video guys it's a great workout routine.
At first I didn't notice the time lapse, and I thought that Brian was messing with Jason.
I started doing this today, I'll update you guys in two weeks and let you know if it works
nice!
The Modern Rogue thanks for the idea guys
Jeanfra Rugama replying to this comment so I get a notification

Replying for update also
"Because I went to college, a**hole, what do you mean?" Brian you're fantastic
Gotta give it to them. They stuck with it. @The Modern Rogue I hope this kind of commitment earns you more subscribers guys!
I'm a simple man, I see Russian in the title, I click the video
Me too. Looks pretty legit, even if I half-ass it, I'll be doing some good for my body. As for the ancestry thing, I know my great grandparents were born in the Ukraine. Iron curtain practices kinda make those records inaccessible and impossible to get. And for my DNA, even if there's other stuff in there, it doesn't change who I am as a person, so I'm not gonna bother.
you're gonna fck your tendons, because stopping it half way you're tendons take the stress instead of your muscles, whcich you're trying to workout
Tristan Cooper it's pronounced cleeck
Same
Tristan Cooper we thank you capitalist person
I saw trevor in the background. That means more drink videos. So excited!
Oh yes. They're coming.
Real talk, Brian would be an awesome spotter. Man had me hyped and I’m not even there
When you have school so you can't do something like this😂
bro i do it anyway
Why would being in school mean you can't do something like this?
@@leonardusl5141 when you're in class it's kinda gonna piss off the teachers
@@leonardusl5141 u generally can't leave your desk and start doing pushups while the teacher is giving a lesson, but idk what school you went to so....
You got plenty of time now
my exercise routine is stand on longboard and let gravity bring me to the bus station
The Lemon Eater That sounds way more enjoyable.
Jason Murphy yea, you would think but the town I live in is on a steep hill, so lots of cars and difficult to slow down xD
The Lemon Eater I bet going home from the bus station is slightly more difficult
David Willanski just a bit
That's actually likely not bad for the butt muscles, because they still have to balance you and perform corrective movements more often than you'll notice. Show your butt!
Brian wasn't even doing full pushups. He was moving like a total of 3 inches.
nvm finished the whole video. They both aren't doing pushups at all.
Jason: “I’ve been avoiding carbs”
* coming off of just filming a beer episode *
You could make these episodes into podcasts and I amongst others would watch it!
Gonna try doing this with sit ups and different types of exercises. Time to die
In soviet Russia push up pushes you
Alright guys I started my second week. First week was pretty easy, not too sore. Now this second week I am dying on the second day lmao. I have to do 25 pushups every 20min and its quite the challenge. Im not one to bitch about form but, in this video they had really bad form so they did more "pushups." But I did 46 straight pushups, medium speed and all the way down for the 2nd week. Im def feeling and somewhat seeing some results, but ill get back once i finish the challenge.
So, how did this ultimately work out for you?
@@dienekes4364they didn’t make it past day 3…

I literally can't do above 5, props to you guys!
I'll try this if I don't get lazy, luckily I'm on my holiday.
It's pretty fu, especially knowing it's only a 2-week commitment.
The Modern Rogue you're pretty fu
5:18
mf'er wasn't even doing it properly, half the pushups, half the score.
Lifehack: exercise makes you stronger
This is perfect for me now, I almost don't go outside beacause I have to study and also it's cold :p
Starting it today! I'm quite curious! :D
Also props to you guys, great channel! Good luck in the future! :D
Cheers from rainy Belgium!
It's physically and scientifically impossible to put on "bulk" or do that many push-ups, without getting stronger or gaining muscle.
[[citation needed]]
muahahaha
no it isnt if you are a beginner and never really worked out then about 90% of the Strength increase that you get in your first month of training is because of better form and new neurons forming in your brain that help you to use your muscle the way it was intended by nature and genetics. But sure you are right about 10% of their progress comes from musclegain.
I would love to try this out but i dont want to miss 2 weeks of boxing practice and you really cant do anything else espacially not boxing whilst commiting to something like that.
Also for people that aren't in great shape already you will burn fat as well which can mask how much muscle you build as your size doesn't change as much
@@SLMNDR520 false I doubled by bicep size in just a month when I started working out seriously

I'm really glad I found this vid, hurt 1st 3 days but now I'm used to it and need to stop myself doing more! One thing that may be of use to others - the disabled toilet at work is your best friend if you need to do them out of sight.
I’m also a simple man. I start watching for the word “Russian” in the title, I keep watching for the Misfits t-shirt.
how the fuck are you supposed to do this and work and family duties
yermanoh hit the deck brother
yermanoh It wasn't easy. At all.
i fear change and i lost both arms in a tragic fishing accident i also took an arrow to the knee when i was a kid and i've allergies im also lazy
so you don't go on adventures anymore :(
Dude, I'm a single dad and I'm doing it. Have your kid do it with you like me. We're battling our way through Week 2 Day 2 now it's a monster but it's something we'll always remember. :)
They probably should have googled how to do a push-up before committing not only a video, but also 2 weeks of they're life...
Thanks for the idea for my vacation workout program
Its crazy how well this works
Wasn't this workout created by Pavel? I know the guy, he's a friend of my dad!
He is scary buff, and goes around the world teaching people about the ways of the Kettlebell, a russian weight for working out.
yeah! We're total fans... We were hoping this video would give him a lil' publicity :-)
Was waiting for this upload lol
Perfect for winter break
Jason is hilarious. I honestly think he would be great in movies

I was thinking "I should do this!" So I tried my 100% test and I couldn't even do one full push ups, but with my 60 degree ones I could do only about 3.
Rest an hour between sets. And do one rep, all the way down all the way up.
@@cartoonhanks1708 I cant even do one all the way down, I can say ive been trying... not everyday... but trying to at least do one real push up.
No offense that’s sad
@@theklown8820 whats even sadder is im now taking estrogen, so ontop of being anorexic mode, now im even weaker
You need to work up to it, start doing pushups with your knees on the ground do this religiously twice a week, your gut will thank you, good idea to do pullups once a week too even up development
Pavel Tsatsouline's stuff is pretty hardcore. Good to know that the pushup regimen is as effective as his isometric stretching program.
You guys should continue this for 2-4 more weeks.
You guys need a network show. This stuff is good.
Seeing all of those half-reps just made me a bit disappointed... :/
The form that brought a single tear to my right eye. I still like the channel though.
Just noticed the suspicious box labeled, "secret knowledge"
Did you mean: turning into sims for 2 weeks?
You guys should be proud, but your guys form on pushups...were really poor ): would be way more effective if you did them better! you might see better results!
The guy with the black hair had good form but the other guy wasnt even doing quarter reps.
Who Brian?
@@callum5855 Black hair? None of them have black hair. Or is this a plot to wooosh me.
There's no such thing as proper form.
Hand position can be whatever you want.
As long as your elbows are not a straight line coming off from your shoulders, it's fine.
And even then it's fine since you just put the emphasis on your delts and chest.
And technically your arms and shoulder joints don't suffer until your elbows raise above your shoulder line.
In otherwords, shut the fuck up.
please nobody try to prove Cartoon Hanks wrong, you would only be helping him
Flashbacks of drill sergeants in basic when I was doing my pt test just saying “1...1...1...1...1...” lol but at least they are trying. I know this an old video I am just working my way through their library.
Hitchens Jr. i’m going to benning next month.
Great effort and dedication. I would just recommend doing full range of motion. You would see greater results.
Absolutely.
Working out doesn't have to be everyday, and it certainly should not be more than an hour, or an hour and a half max. If you guys are interested in getting fit, try doing high intensity interval cardio. All you have to invest in the beginning is buy a jump rope. In the beginning try 30 secs of jumping and 20 secs of rest and do that for 4 mins. By the third set you will be sweating. If you do that for half hour, consistently you will see results. Use the 30 mins left to do push ups and squats. I do this every other day, one day of work out one day of rest. You can get pretty fit and good looking (not that you guys are not) for investing relatively $8 for jump rope and one hour of your time every other day. Of course, this also goes with what you're eating as well.
bro cardio is a meme
Rockzilla1122 Tell em bro

I have seen you before but when I saw just 1 video on this channel I subbed because you guys are tuning impossible to possible for example who thought that we could make some bad a** nunchucks from news paper I watched 1 video of scam school and I fell in love with you. I love your vids. Thankyou.
