I bought tickets to see him 7 months in advance. Sorry I was so disappointed first the concert started late then he had 2 opera singers who did most of the singing the first half (which was short) then they went on break for 20 min. I SMH and left before they came back for the second half. The seats weren’t cheap. I’ve never walked out on anything before.
It's a story about a cold heartless but beautiful princess who is being courted by several men. Calaf (a secret prince) has fallen in love with the princess and has answered three questions put to him by the princess but she still doesn't want to marry him. In a last ditch effort to win the princess, Calaf says if she can guess his name by the morning she can behead him. If she doesn't find his name she has to marry him. The princess tells her subjects that if they don't find out his name she will have them all killed. Thus the aria sung by the prince," No One Sleeps"!
Beheading ....Man he opened up a can of worms with that one . I mean I too have lost my noggin in love with many women, but for crying out loud it's just a figure of speech....and you know this silly '' princess pain in the ass'' is going to figure this out....and go through with it.....perhaps the next time he should try a dating service...E-harmony perhaps ?
Katherine Louise Howard The reason why Princess Turandot is so cold hearted is because she believes in this legend of an Empress who ruled her country but was betrayed and killed by her husband so Turandot believes that the empress lives within her and if she marries someone, they will do the same to her. If someone wants to win her hand, she asks the suitor three riddles that are impossible to answer. The wrong answer will lead to the suitor's execution.
somehow i went from metal to punk to classic rock to blues to jazz and now im here. fuck i love music. its the soul speaking for those who care to listen
This was one of my grandpas favorite songs :) I remember always walking into his den as a kid with this playing. He'd always look so happy. Still makes me cry ❤️
Peter B Yes... it does. Opera can do that. First time I heard this I started balling alone in my car, I called my Dad and told him about this incredible song and he laughed and laughed. Turned out it was his all time favorite. =)
Thank you for posting this. I have been so sad and angry for so long, this piece has been a more than adequate catharsis for my frustration through tears. Thank you again.
never knew what they were saying till now. thank you so much. this was written when music meant something, and when voices were admired for their ability to sing, not chant or yell. only people whose hearts resonate with the chords and lines of true music can understand and relate to the sheer beauty and majestic genius of this puccini piece.
This really does touch my soul ; I first heard it at Italia 90.Then the other day at Sir bobby,s memorial : it made my back tingle again. This is the first time I,ve heard the translation, deep lyrics as I suspected, sounds much better in Italian ; what a beautiful tongue. Many thanks for the translation.
I can listen to this a thousand times, and I will still cry by the end of this aria EVERY SINGLE TIME... It gives me goosebumps all over! So so so beautiful!!!
I don't subscribe to everybody, but fair is fair! I have so much enjoyed this past hour discovering the lyrics for the very first time ever at the age of 60. Now I have written down the meaning I feel confident to practice in the kitchen, just in case I ever end up in a nursing home without a final note. Thank You! Every child should make their parents learn the words and sing it together! Happy New Year 2017.
Thank you for translating it to us, now will be able to appreciate and connect more with one of the most loved arias in opera. KUDOS! Much love here from the PHILIPPINES
Thank you for taking the time and translating I’ve loved the music but never could understand I’m Mexican and mariachi is similar it’s the words and the way you sing it that defines how special and I love it
